Few tips for the fellow Archers !

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:02 am

Hello fellow friends..

First of all: All of these come from a personal experience with Archery, so of course some may disagree

So today I began an archer character.
At first I thought it'll be hard and annoying , here I will provide some tips for fun and easy experience with bows !
  • If you'll advance in One-Handed , then make sure you are using dual - wielding , you will be able to shoot arrows at the enemy and after few shots switch to dual swords/dagger and sword or any other dual combination , this will give you a critical amount of damage and less taken.
  • At the beggining , you can take a follower with you , for example I took Faendal and with his assistance I could level up my archery fast, together we were able to double our progress and enemies couldn't hurt us.
  • Of course it'll be best if you wear enchanted armor with archery damage,
  • Sneaking helps alot too , you can double your first arrows's damage at the beginning.
  • For easier aiming at moving targets , advance the slow motion perk.
  • It's much easier to take down big effect enemies , Hagravens for example with a companion.
Any feedback is welcome too

My redguard archer won't use magic items she hates magic ;) but good list except killing while sneaking adds to that perk not archery

I disagree with the duel wielding. Went 1 hand, and got the first perk of block. Now i'm unstoppable in meele and ranged.

Also, followers will 'kill steal' making it harder to level up

Well you're right in both things , still Dualing can help in some cases more than single sword ;D

Not to be pushy, but shouldn't you have more than a couple of hours experience with this play type before you start providing tips on how to do it?

Learning to drop in and out of slowmo-zoom-in is important as well, once you get the rhythm of shooting in slowmo and droping out to knock another arrow and then droping back into slowmo to shoot your next shoot you are able to drop 2 baddies for every single steep of the third.(while in sneak that is ).

Hang on, let me write this down in my leather bound journal "Sneaking HELPS archery." Okay, got it. Thanks!

I tend to concentrate more on sneak than archery even if I am playing an archer style character. The upgraded bonus of a bow sneak attack is great, I find it very satisfying to one shot something.

I also had a habit with the zoom/slow motion perks to do it while I'm loading my arrow, therefore wasting a lot of stamina just watching my guy pull back the bow. Soon get out of though and only zoomed just before firing. :P

The trick is to drop out of it to knock a new arrow and drop back in just as you knock it or just after, no wasting stamina.

Followers has two benefits, melee followers work as tanks, they engage the enemy while you shoot them, even at level 50 this is useful then running into dragons or groups.
They also watch your back, if someone come up on you from behind they will defend you, more common outdoor but can also happened in dungeons.

If they steal kills from you, you are in so huge problems you should be gratefull.

You're right :D
In my case , Faendal just "continued" my arrow attacks , so it was really useful.

I was keeping it in the original context of early levels. Follows deal high amounts of damage at level 1.

Perhaps, OP, you should think of moving targets. The slow-motion perk really helps here, but I usually only invest 1 perk point into it. Perhaps you should add tips about aiming.

I don't mind my companion stealing my kills, it kinda turns into a game of who can kill the bandit first  But they do come in handy for when someone manages to sneak up on you, and you know there is always just one who was taken a piss or something and then walks up on ya.

By the way , it's much easier to fight Hagravens with a companion at the beginning.

My archer never even uses a dagger or sword.
She uses the bow to bash an opponent in the rare cases that they get that close.

Faendal is a chump! He kept using the wrong weapons when I wanted him to use a bow. At one point he dropped out of combat with a massive 2H Battleaxe and started going all crazy with a pickaxe and a Dwarven shield! A PICKAXE!

Then why did you give all these to him ?

Don't use followers, they ruin sneak and get in the way.

I'd also add getting the perk that increases archery damage maxed ASAP
