For Auld Lang Syne Appreciation Thread!

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:04 am

This is just a thread to say thank you to Obsidian for creating the quest For Auld Lang Syne and all ascociated characters, really good stuff from all of them adding excellent character to what has always been seen as an "evil" organisation and for finally closing the book on Navarro even if it wasn't what I personally would have liked (gave me good motivation for destroying the NCR though!). Orion Moreno in particular, as you can see from my sig, was my favourite character in the game, it just seems to out-of-character to hear Enclave members talking so knowledgably about the NCR and living in the wasteland, every line Moreno said really felt sad and bitter to an Enclave supporter like myself, 30 years ago he would have killed you and laughed and now he's just an old man resigned to his fate. Arcade was implimented beautifully too, a real good character all round and great fun to hang around with, not to mention greatly under-appreciated in terms of kicking ass too. Seeing Henry return was a big surprise although I wasn't, for evident reasons, happy to see him as an Enclave deserter.

Their swoop in during the final mission was so... it's just hard to describe after all these years, finally charging into battle with the Enclave. My compliments to whomever designed this quest and all the characters (if anyone knows?) for giving me and many others what we have wanted for so long. Looking forward to hopefully some Enclave references in the future! :D

EDIT: Grammer was poor in places.

Glad one of these was made, the quest was so interesting yet such a pain to get, Arcade is very choosey.

I'm glad you liked it. Jeff Husges wrote all of the Remnants and implemented the quest. Akil Hooper scripted their arrival at Hoover Dam. I wrote Arcade, but that was a pretty small part of the quest, work-wise.

Nicely done, I just managed to get them. The only problem I had with it was I was doing a house play through so when I saw them they where hostile. they should be loyal to you since you recruit them is all I'd change.

I loved this quest too! Thank you Obsidian!

Although I think the Enclave should have been dropped off a little later during the battle of Hoover. Legate's camp was too close, with few enemies between. Just constructive criticism for y'alls.

And let's not forget receiving the best armor in the game ;)

Well my compliments again to all involved in making what is my favourite quest in the game :foodndrink: loved every second of it. Well I wished that the Remnants Bunker had some beds and such but the writing and the characters were brillient; in fact so was ED-E too, don't suppose you know who created ED-E and the logs, which of course reference the Chicago Bunker?

I agree, in F2 AND F3, they were pictured as being evil and maniacal. But honestly, I love how they all are portrayed. Also, on a personal note, I want to thank Mr. Sawyer for the way he wrote Arcade. I have a certian uncomfort with homosixuality, and your way you wrote Arcade, with him becoming my favorite character you encounter (Aside from House  )
Arcade has made me more accepting of homosixuality, which for alot of people, it's a hard thing to be persuaded to accept. Kudos on the great character Mr. Sawyer, and Kudos Jeff Hughes for writing such an emotionally connecting quest.

Odd how a video game about nukes can teach me to accept homosixuality. Very odd, but also very impressive ;) Arcade and Veronica > all!

I don't mean to sound like a dike or whatever, but to Martyr and ZakAtak, why didn't you accept homosixuality before and in what way did the character(s) help you accept it?

An absolutely amazing quest. Finding the Remnants and talking to them was great (LOVED the drill sergeant reference!) and seeing them gathered around the console in the underground bunker was, well, epic.

I nearly had to change my pants after they showed up at the dam battle in the Vertibird, although when I went through the first time, only Cannibal Johnson followed me; hopefully that's been fixed in a patch (unless it was intentional, but Moreno was bugged).

I wouldn't say so, since he took his two favorite girls with him before the war, and his "entombment". (Scanned there brains.)

Typical homophobic highschool dumbasses with the "Oh, that's gay" mentality. How that came to be? Probably all the fruits on TV your mom watches.

All Arcade/Veronica is more subtle about it, as most of them are. Corporal Betsy... well, she is just [censored] hilarious.

My favorite quest in Fallout New Vegas. And them swooping in at the Dam is one of the most rewarding experiences in any Fallout game.

Well me and my Gauss Rifle, we are thankful for the efforts of the Remnants, without their help, things would have been tougher on the Dam, and that Johnson slings a mean Minigun,

"better keep your head down. might be snipers around
-Doctor Henry

that line shows how much war experience is still within the old doctor :)

in my opinion, it was one of the best written quests in the game. it was definitely fun to have cannibal johnson tag along with me to the legate >:D

On-topic, my only issue was that you had to choose between NCR and the Legion.

Edit: And Arcade becoming non-recruitable.

I like this quest a lot. It humanised Enclave Soldiers from their Fo2 and Fo3 encounters. It also provided new lore for the Enclave; the cause of the Klamath Vertibird Crash, the Fall of Navarro, what happened to the Enclave members that didn't go east. To me, it also unretcons Enclave Power Armour because Remnant Power Armour has the same stats as the Enclave Power Armour from Fo3.

The only thing I don't like was when I completed the quest on my first playthrough. I wasn't expecting two sets of Power Armour as a reward, and it put me at least 75-80 over the carry weight. I had to walk all the way to the Ranger Safehouse (Closest player home) to drop off the various weapons and armours I never used.

Also, why don't Kreger and Henry wear Power Armour? Johnson and Moreno wear it, but the Sergant and the Medic don't?

Kreger was a Captain, hence the Officer Uniform (even though back in Fallout 2 all ranks wore armour) and Henry wasn't a medic, he was tech support or something, radio-communications perhaps or maybe if they had been ordered somewhere where computers would have to be hacked, he was a scientist.

Glad to see the Enclave had a human side to it.

Before it was all BIG, BAD, EVIL!! But not everyone was like that.

well in truth what they wanted was just. what they did to try and achieve this was definitely not, which ultimately was their downfall :shakehead: too bad, i would have LOVED to play as a soldier of them in a spin off.
