Forsworn Briarhearts; Bethesda, you made me sick to my stoma

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:54 pm

I thought this thread was going to be about the White Phial quest being bugged. I've had that quest in my log for weeks now, can't finish it ><

Does the game actually go into debth why they have them and what it's for. I noticed it right away but I just don't understand the purpose

All I could figure out from the game scenery is that the Hagravens perform some kind of ritual where they replace the heart with one of them. You see plenty of transition stage Briarhearts throughout the Forsworn areas. I think I remember one even getting off the table so he could fight me.

Wait, I never really paid much attention to them. Can you actually see their open chest cavity with the heart in it or something?

So their heart is not in their chest at all? Like not even exposed to air? Where is it then?

It's an STD they get from 'comforting' hagravens.
Now that is sicker then the Briarheart itself..... Good One!!! LOLLOLLOL

There is a book in game that explains why they are that way.

I remember when the first one I met handed me my butt on a plate.

Now I have a dresser with almost 200 sets of forsworn armor in it.

Oh vengeance is mine!

Right, couldn't quite remember if it was related, but checking on the Imperial library it's a ritual once performed on Red Eagle.

I think they are one of the most interresting enemies due to this(a well as they are one of the stronger so yay, epic battle), and I think it shows just how much they have sacrifieced to take back their home.

Yep, that was the book. I was looking through the list trying to remember which it was.

Funny how things are explained in the books. I guess I'm one of the few that actually reads them when I pick up a new one.

The Wolf Queen ones are fun to read also, gives you some background on one of the quests you might stumble on.

That item with the word "heart" in it is their heart

So, when you loot 'em, you actually physically remove their heart from their body. Talk about makeshift heart surgeon

I noticed it not too long ago. I have always thought it's weird they bear the same name as an item, but I thought it's just a title. And then I loot one's heart and boy is that a good touch

It doesn't make me sick, though. I ate a human heart with level 3 Experimenter perk

Yeah, but is there actually some physical thing showing their heart or something while they're alive, or is it just you can loot an item called "Briar Heart"?

Their chest will only open when you loot the item, so no, nothing indicates that the item is their heart until you see it yourself.

You see the heart stitched into their chests while they're alive.

Once you remove the heart, it's an empty cavity.

Oh, hahaha, I need to look at those guys more closely. I always assumed the briar heart was a little symbolic plant thing, and that they had tattoos.

Huh, that's awesome detail though!

If you go to the Bard's Leap Summit location. Just West (I think it is part of the ruin Lost Valley Redoubt) of there is a Dragon Wall where if you sneak up you can see the Hagraven peforming the ritual that makes a Briarheart. Well as much as you can see using the default game animations rather then a proper animation.

I looted those hearts forever before I finally noticed a hole in the chest of one and put 2 and 2 together. I didn't have a sickening moment tho more like a "well that's interesting"

Indeed.

Oh how nice it would have been to be able to get on their good side (or some of their good sides). Forsworn for DLC faction!

Naw, not really. I kinda like the "Olde Tyme Magick" they put into the game. Gives the Forsworn more depth.

Oh, by the way,

Spoiler
If you sneak up and successfully pickpocket a Briarheart's Briar Heart, they will insta-die.
I guess its sort of a pocket.. *bleeh!*

I have a question for the folks who were grossed out by this. How do you feel about having to eat one to find it's alchemical properties?
