FPS Drops after updating to 1.5

I tried under the [Display] of skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini. I could try it in Gameplay, lemme see.

If some folk say it works, it's worth trying in different places ey

Well, that was kinda my idea, I just didn't feel like dealing with it after it failed twice. Maybe I should just add it everywhere. Could that hurt? Oh, adding under [Gameplay] didn't do anything either >.<

It'd be nice if someone for whom this tweak works would post a couple of before/after screenshots showing the grass shadows on/off. I really can't imagine that it works for some but not all.

That's probably not going to help. If you want to know where this is supposed to be, backup your ini files and use the saveini console command. If you're not using any mods, it will save to your Skyrim.ini. If you are using mods, it will create a new ini file with the same name as the last mod in your load order in the \data folder. Whichever ini file is created, take a look at it to see if there is a bShadowsOnGrass variable and under what section it is located. Then delete that ini, restore your old ini file (if necessary) and add the variable to the appropriate section.

It actually saves a full INI file with the name of the last mod in the load order, save for Update.esm, into the Data folder no matter what.

An example of it being run on a vanilla install:

Data/Skyrim.ini

Just thought I'd clarify that.

You are right. That behavior must have changed in a recent update (1.3?). Previously, it would just overwrite the Skyrim.ini in the normal location. It is easier to identify the current way.

As far as I can recall, it's been doing that since before then. We had that slew of reports about the red menu screen right around 1.1 - 1.2.

I preferred the old method, myself. I don't really like having a full INI file sitting around.

I prefer to save things on the fly. ^^

Just a note, though: Any INI file in the Data folder overrides those in (My )Documents/(My )Games/Skyrim

Alright seems like bShadowsOnGrass is a fail. I also tried testing it out in every ini and every section in the ini files. My next attempt was to try out what was being discussed here:

http://portingteam.com/index.php/topic/7029-skyrim-15-grass-bug/

Setting bTreesReceiveShadows and bDrawLandShadows to 1 or 0 in my ini files didn't do anything either. If anyone would like to test this out as well, please give it a shot.

Is there any chance that modders would be able to disable the grass shadows somehow? I might go over to the nexus and ask around on the mod request forums if all else fails.

Also, if anyone else is having similar problems to what I'm dealing with here, please post your system specs. As rekTa mentioned, there might be a pattern to this worth noting. Never know.
