I have the game modded so that the 'red marks' don't come on the compass - so I have to simply rely on line of sight and being watchful....

I also have a mod for darker nights.... so I seek shelter as fast as possible when darkness falls. One evening in game I got caught up in helping a group of NCR rangers pursue some legion troops and I was out in the wilderness when darkness fell, allowing me to see right in front of me and that is all. I tried to use my map to make it back to a ranch I remembered but got disoriented and stumbled into the irradiated environs of the NCR outpost in the southeast... next thing I know, uniformed NCR ghouls are running out of the night and lunging at me - I think I changed my boxers 11 times....

I haven't gotten too far in the game yet with this character (my first modded game) so I'm sure many many more scares await....

Mine was probably in vault 11 as well. (the spore one right?) Anyway I was making my way through and entered a room with a bunch of flowers thinking "great there's gonna be another one of those things in here". To the left side of the room is a baby carriage and from right beside it a Spore Carrier Runt, basically a tiny version of the others, comes up out of the grass. I'm about to shoot it and then I realize "Holy crap, this thing was a baby that was mutated by this crazy @#$% and now I gotta kill the baby!" Not really a scary moment but just felt messed up.

Wow this topics still alive! Lol, I kinda gave up on it. Anyway, right next to the one I listed I have a few more... One would be the spore people especially in the Atrium when like four of them rose at once and charged at me... Then the other moment would be in Dead Wind cave. Right when I entered Boone shot one and then three of them charged and killed both of us...

Vault 11 is the one with bugs and a very scary room under the Overseer's Office, the vault you are referring to is Vault 22

Yeah way, just bring alot of rad-away, some friends and a good weapon and you should be good as long as you can get out before the radiation kills you.

The radiation and killing isn't the issue, the darkness, really really freaky noises, enclosed corridors and creepy looking enemies are :shakehead:

Worst part is they're so fast, they keep making these creepy noises, but you never see them. And then suddenly you hear this insanely disturbing noise, like someone is running with a pair of wet socks on. And then bam! You have a zombie in your face.

Thank god for V.A.T.S., at least I can pause

Well I never really get scared at all much but there is one time that "caught me off guard."

Anyways I was playing the quest Volare and was heading for the Lake to lift the B-52 Bomber and I am heading over there when I discover some ruins of a couple of houses and a railway car crashed. Curiosity of mine I head over there and scavenge what ever was there convinced that Arcade Gannon has my back (usually does). While searching away my thing pops up in the corner saying "Arcade Gannon is unconcious." At the time I was thinking WTF did he get himself into this time or did he run off again. Well I turn around and BLAM a deathclaw slaps me taking down most of my health. While I was screaming I blasted away at him and he was gone. Recovering from it I took a breather and Arcade gannon got up again and i was heading off when I saw 5 more deathclaws and more young ones. While crapping myself I ran like hell for the lake and hoping they couldn't catch me. Then when I got near the shore they were gone and I was happy and relaxed. Then about to put on the rebreather to go in the water I looked over the hill and there was these flying bugs. So many of them that they pretty much blocked out the sun. Not sure what they were and never having seen them before I shot at them. While barely killing one they swarmed me out of no-where and I shot like nothing. Again my companion goes un-concious and I shot until I was out of stimpacks. Then with no more fight left I screamed and jumped into the lake and dived deep down and then never got me.

Well thats my experience.....

Never get scared ... good to know that you keep your cool while you're screaming a lot and crapping yourself :)

Great post, I enjoyed the story. That lake idea, I would never have thought of that.

Although not freaky, a funny experience i had was near the start of the game in freeside. I was playing while my friend watched and i ran into a little boy chasing a girl with a small gun, so i talk to him and he says his gun is the best in the whole galaxy. I then say to my friend "watch as that gun ends up being the best gun in the game" and low and behold, at the end of the HELIOS 1 quest, guess who has the gun for the giant space laser?

um I walked into a shack and something freaking jumps through the air at me. i hit the VATS key on impulse and it was a giant rat jumping through the air at my head! Freakin hilarious and scary.

my other cool experience is just wandering around on a new character i made for hardcoe mode for 6 hours straight and somehow made it a round to vegas via the left side of the map. i killed the doc in good springs so i had no doctor all my limbs plus my head crippled stumbling around with radiation sickness to boot was freakin hardcoe. and ncr rangers coming every few days to try and kill me

also i found a bug in the game when i exit helios one through the back door i hear the sounds of barrels crashing to the ground. i spin around like wth is that? then suddenly out of the clear blue the old lady from the scrap yard and all her dogs fall on my head and start attacking me lol this happened 3 times because i reloaded. Hilarious bugs.

sigh if only i didnt have to sleep and do work i could play new vegas without end

The first time I went to Nellis AFB:
Bet the guy 200 caps I could make it, didn't even bother looking at the map. How hard could it be? I was packing some (what I thought at the time) serious firepower with 100 Guns Skill and the weapons and ammo to dispatch a small army by myself (Assault Carbine, AMR, Maria, etc.). As I approach the town I heard a loud BOOM off in the distance. Weird, I thought to myself, that kind of sounded like... *wwheeeeeeeewwwww BOOM* ...ARTILLERY?! HOLY S*** WHERE DID THEY HOWITZERS?! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! Veronica is unconscious. OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! There's the gate! I made it! Well, at least I made it to the idiot staring at me with a missile launcher...

The weird attackers in Freeside:
On my second play through I took Wacky Wasteland. Outside of Cerulean Robotics in Freeside I got attacked by 3 angry old ladies with rolling pins. Cass murdered all of the with her 12 gauge before I even got my gun out, but I was like WTF?

Freakiest moment was when I was trying to go through the center of the map to get to New Vegas, I had Cass with me, I'm halfway through the Deathclaw part without seeing anything, I turn around to make sure Cass has all the ammo she needs, and suddenly, Cass flys at me and dies at my feet, and three Deathclaws are standing right behind her corpse.I turn to run, and the Alpha Deathclaw is staring at me from about ten feet away. So, I manage to survive that encounter with the tactical use of...my grenade machine gun and my incinerator.

Then, I go to see Cass' body...it's GONE, like nowhere to be found at all.

Freaked me out.

Freakiest thing was easily going through the basemant of the Ultra-Luxe while the music there played. So fittingly eerie.

For me it was the first time I encountered a Cazadore. I was headed north from Goodsprings, wanting to go to Jacobstown to see my fav NPC Marcus, and remembering that in the screenshot with him he had mountains in the background I looked at my map and saw the crescent of what looks like snowy mountains even on the Pipboy map, so I'm heading out of Goodsprings, and there are these signs warning not to continue. Thinking more in terms of Fallout 3(as opposed to the original more dangerous Fallout 1 & 2), where with some luck, even a low level character could kill anything, I press on down the canyon. I began to sneak ahead, figuring if there was something bad I might be able to sneak around it. At the same time that I first see a red blip on the radar, I lose control of my character, spin around and theres Victor, telling me to be careful, and generally being creepy. Amused by the fact that I can and did tell him it how creepy he was, I turn back around to continue my journey. As soon as I'm facing the opposite direction, a giant flying inscet rises over the ridge and flys extremely fast right past me and begins to attack Victor. I take aim and pop a couple shots off at the bug, thinking I would help the creepy robot out, then another bug shows up and Victor is dead. They both turn in my direction, and before I can blink have covered the distance between us, I have only enough time to bring V.A.T.S. up and get a shot off before I was killed by one strike of it's massive stinger. I have since learned to fear and respect Cazadores, especially in groups.

---------------------
If you have not been to Vault 22 yet, please do yourself a favor and skip this post and go there ASAP. The quest for it can be found in Camp McCaran (look for scientists, just mentioning that if you can't wait but want to do the actual quest)
---------------------

Ok, visiting Vault 22 was a tad more "freaky" than being new to the Ultra-Luxe.

I received the mission at the Camp and I prepared accordingly, especially after finding out that roughly a dozen were sent before me. I moved out with Boone in the dawn, after checking my equipment and some chatting with soldiers. On the way I requested additional support by the NCR, a soldier. The way was rather quiet, a few critters on the way but nothing serious. We soon arrived and I knew something was odd about it. We entered and checked some logs, first the one by the Dr, then some actual Vault logs. Gave me the creeps because I really imagined it while reading. Anyway, the first minutes were "peaceful", but then we ran into big trouble. I remember when we all got split up, with those....things everywhere. I had over a hundred shotgun shells and I can tell you...they were running low rather quickly. When we got separated I slowly moved through the corridors, hearing gunfire and shouts in the distance...then it was quiet for a while and I stumbled upon the torn corpse of our third man. Freaky stuff...rip. Found Boone after a while on the ground nearby, knocked out.

But once the initial chaos was over we adapted to the situation and solved it after a while...

Damn....deathclaws are nothing against this (apart from physical strength). Just imagine it being in the vault by the time stuff happened...ugh...anything creepier? I doubt it. I'd be awesome to get a DLC that will expand on certain quests (more choices / consequences), including this certain quest. Or a mod might do it....imagine it spreads across the desert...

In theory that wouldn't be too hard...I mean those spores would be on the plants too I guess and they already stick out of the vault. Let's assume they can't spread well due to the climate out there. Well, sooner or later someone may enter it and leave it again (like YOU, the player) and they would spread. It may be a combination of a "Zombie Apocalypse" and "The Thing" (kind of).
