Freeside kids chasing pet rats?

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 3:00 pm

I never noticed before today, but the kids chasing the big rat in Freeside are all carrying knives - I guess they're after dinner!

I'd seen it dozens of time and never noticed

Kill the rat for them and watch... I sat there in shock for a good 5 minutes.

It's one of the most disturbing scenes in the game actually, after you drop that rat...

They actually thank you for doing so.

I have to say that if something like that happened in real life I'd gather the kids up and take them to dinner. Just so they could avoid doing that.

lol.

You have to admit that was a brilliant bit of atmosphere, though, eh?

No doubt. It got the point across perfectly. You just don't see things like that.

I never did for the same reason. I just thought it was just some flavor they added for Freeside but boy was I surprised.

I think Chuck Norris might've got nauseas at that sight.

And that's saying something.

I'd had it spoiled for me. But after I shot it I felt like a good person, since you can't give them food.

Actually, after I shot it, one of them just decided to walk away. I wonder what that kid was doing chasing the rat. Was he just doing it for [censored] and giggles?

Maybe he wanted to have, erm.... relations with it?

Some relations are weird, just don't ask.

I think the most disturbing part about killing the rat is what they say afterwards...

"thanks lady/mister."

Both in the exact same little boy voice, over and over again.

Did I mention one was a little girl?

I pretty much knew the kids wanted to eat the rat, their dislogue mentioned something to that effect: "We're gonna have rat tonight!" or some such thing. I killed the rat for them, let 'em dig in. The game offers no option for you to give the kids caps or food, even if you have plenty.

If kids eating raw rat bothers you, kill it with a laser or a flamer. That way, they're at least getting a hot meal.

I just tried my above theory.

They started eating a pile of ashes, and most likely radioactive plasma-goo....

Intresting...

I remember that encounter quite well. I shoot that rat just to see what happen. Thank you is enough of an award, though I felt bad because I was eating a Squirrel-on-a-stick I bought not too long ago from that bald vendor.

I think it would be funnier if they were chasing some drunk/addict around, I would'ent feel bad then for helping them by shooting it. :gun:

lol, I just did that for the first time today aswell. Only weird part was when the first child got on his knees to start eating instead of his character stopping at the dead rat....he slide on his knees all the way to the edge fo the map. He then got up and ran the other way.... very weird, all I could think was "guitar slide!" :intergalactic:
