In-game map.

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:36 pm

Am I the only one that really does not like, and has grown exceptionally tired of the in-game map. I really wish they used the Oblivion type of map in-game. I liked the thought that when I pulled up the map I was literally looking at a map in the actual game. I often use the map that came with the game (the physical map) instead of the in-game map.

I actually like the in-game map.

I wasn't a big fan of Oblivions

I completely agree. I've always thought of the map as something my character is looking at, not a tool that's outside of the game world. In Oblivion I even turned off the marker that shows where my character is at so I would actually have to use the map for navigation, not just as a GPS.

And the map in Skyrim doesn't show roads... That bothers me so much. It's pretty much useless for planning how to get places. I still don't know where all the main roads are.

I'm with you, OP. The skyrim map gets pretty annoying; I definitely liked the oblivion map better.

Also, I really liked how the equipment menu in oblivion showed your character and allowed you to easily choose clothing that looks best on your character.

Each map style has their ups and downs. The Skyrim map style is probably themed like the skills menu where you "look to the heavens", so the map is the view of the gods.

But i agree, it gets old after a while and you just want an old fashioned map.

I do agree that I liked Oblivion's map better for the immersive feeling, but I'd be fine if they just added roads to the current one.

I agree. Roads are the big thing that I'd like.

I like Morrowind's Map the best. The way it is blacked out until you actually get there, and don't get me started on fast travel.

I've played Skyrim long enough to where I can get to any major hold without looking at anything now. But I still like to use the actual, physical map, and I love to use the signs on the roads to get from place to place. I like the compass at the top but I wish there was a way to turn off everything such as the locations that show up (not the arrows but the icons).

Actually I'd just prefer a very small compass in one of the bottom corners of the screen. And I'd actually like to be able to toggle that on and off as well. I know I can lower the brightness of the HUD until that stuff disappears but it also takes off the cross hairs and I can't exactly be effective without those being as how I use archery often.

I never used the road signs in Oblivion butin Morrwind, they are essential/.

I prefer Oblivion's map but I don't really mind the direction they went in with the map, I just don't use it. I either use a paper map or do without.

That, my friend, is awesome. Haha.

My wife can't sleep with any lights on, it drives her nuts. I always get up after she falls asleep and go and play in the den, from time to time fights with dragons wakes her up. She's not too pleased when that happens.

Hahaha, I have a mini man cave at my bedside. PS3 (SKyrim and Oblivion), X-Box ( Morrowind) and my laptop (Arena and Daggerfall) all hooked up to a TV next to my night stand. My own little TES workshop.

I could tell where the roads are from the geography of the map (the roads are always in the valleys), but I did get a map mod that has the roads on it and it is better to use in the game. It would be a nice addition to the stock map for folks.

Nice. The next house we buy, which won't be for 5-10 years MUST have a place where I can make my own man cave. I've been collecting tons of what my wife would call useless junk, such as my statue of Alduin, for years. I'll have the ultimate video game/sports setup.

I missed this. I do agree 100% miss this in Skyrim. Morrowind had it too but not a good.

Also, love your screen name. Milk Drinker :goodjob:

I'm going to put him on the mantle in our den, where my wife puts all that "woman" crap. Flowers, plaques with poems on them, candles, etc. Let's see how long he remains hidden.

The Skryim map looked way cool at first.. but then I realized there weren't any roads marked on it. That's really the only think I don't like about it. I was happy when I went out and bought a new PC and got Skryim for PC then I could download the mod that puts roads on the map. Yay.

I've grown into liking it. Just got used to it, couldn't imagine going back to Oblivion's map. I've already forgot what it looks like...
