Game series that are perfect

Post » Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:47 am

I can think of quite a few games that came very close to perfection, but not a single series that did so. Unless you would count Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption and Bloodlines as a series, but I see them as almost completely unrelated games set in the same universe.

The Elder Scrolls is the first thing that comes to mind. There are flaws in all TES games, but they are so insignificant when you look at the big picture.

Fair enough. Stating 'Morrowind was terrible' as opposed to 'I disliked Morrowind' will likely illicit similar knee-jerk reactions as my own around here.

And thanks. Tyrion is awsome. Even when he's being creepy.

Damn, wish I had thought of that avatar first...

Maybe one with him slapping Joffrey will suffice. If only I knew how.

I don't think you've played Oblivion have you?

I'm not sure if you could really count it as a series or not (it has two standalone expansions), but the first game that comes to mind for me is Company of Heroes. Everything in that game has a purpose, and it all comes together in an extremely well made and well thought out package.

The System Shock series is the closest to perfection I've seen. Both games are absolutely brilliant, and for their time they don't really have any noticeable flaws at all. The graphics are horribly dated by now though, seeing how they are 17 and 12 years old.

The Suikoden series is absolutely great too, with marvelous storylines (even if some of them are relatively weak but still very good!). The spin-off Suikoden Tierkreis was a bit of a disappointment, though.

Other great series are Mass Effect, Portal, Thief, Hitman and ummm, I guess that's it.

Of course I have.

The original Halo trilogy comes to mind as well. Not nearly perfect, but it does what it sets out to do, and does it well.

Here is a list of series that have not had any big disappointments for me.

L4D
Brothers in Arms
Halo
Portal
Killzone
Uncharted
Assassins Creed
Gears of War
Super Smash Bros.
Mass Effect
KOTOR

By no means are any of these perfect but not a single game in any of those series has completely disappointed me. I also haven't played all of the game in the Elder Scrolls or Fallout series so thats why they are not included.

I'd probably go with Zelda. Aside from the CD-i titles (which aren't really considered part of the main series), there's really nothing but quality there. Spirit Tracks and The Adventure of Link are probably the only blemishes, and even then I can't call them bad games by any stretch of the imagination.

If Portal can be counted as a series with just two games, then that also.

Portal

:D

But yes, I think out of my list I'd put Portal at the top, no flaws for me!

God of War, hands down. None of the games have disappointed me. I would say Prince of Persia (SoT trilogy), but I hate Warrior Within. Still, two out of three isn't bad.
