Game Store Workers

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:44 am

I'm on the management team at my GameStop, and I've got two answers to this:

1. Doing midnight launches for games that I personally care about is actually really fun, and not agonizing at all. You get to socialize with all the fans, and enjoy the crowd to the fullest. Also, we really don't get out of work that much later than midnight.

2. If you're a smart employee like me, you work it out with your other managers to open on 11/10/11, so that you can punch out and get straight in line, than have the next two and a half days off to play the game :)

You make your employes go punch out and actually wait inline after there shift? How big are these lines?

Moved to CD as this falls under more of a general discussion.

Nope don't feel sorry for them, they get to spend the entirety of their working day talking about video games with co-workers and customers, it looks awesome.

Also, if I did feel sorry for them I'd be more sorry about the MW3 release than the Skyrim release.

I don't feel sorry for them for midnight releases. I feel sorry for them because they work in retail. I worked at a games/software store for 2 years in high school and that was enough retail for me. It's not that it's hard...the people just start to drive you crazy. And the holiday music...oh god...the holiday music...

Besides, I've pulled a lot more late nights and all-nighters at my real jobs than I ever did in retail, and I don't get paid overtime for it because I'm salaried.

Not really because they could get the game early and for a discount. I am almost jealous :)

I work at GameStop. Well, I've been employed there for 3 weeks. I don't get any hours (7.5 in two weeks over two shifts), the management is a mess, corporate hands out a ridiculously low amount of hours to spread between all the employees each week, and my manager has not reinstated the employee renting policy since I started there.

Feel sorry for me?

Meh, when I pre ordered Skyrim, the girl working there had no idea how to pre order or what Skyrim even is. It took 15 minutes to do a 2 minute task. I don't know how she got her job.

I don't really feel sorry for them - there are definitely worse, or harder jobs in the world (although I know I could never work with the public/customers - did it for work experience 8yrs ago. Never again). As it is, the people in my local GAME shop always seem really nice and friendly. I used to take my little sister in there a lot and they were always helping her out with game choices, which was sweet.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to listen to Skyrim fans imploding with joy about how good they think this game is going to be.

I don't feel bad for them.

They get paid [not very well but it is still money].

I'd rather work for Gamestop for any money rather than bust my ass elsewhere.

No lies, I'm gonna have my own midnight releas for this game. A big ass retail store, open till midnight with cash registers ready so I can get skyrim at midnight. Of course I gotta pay debit or credit or no deal lmao.

Can you believe that,a whole store scheduling around te release of a video game so one guy can get it at midnight.

Never mind.. its on a Friday..

I just checked mw3 and will get that at my own midnight release :)

I feel sorry that they will be out of a job as their entire industry is being crushed by the move to Digital Distribution.
