Well I highly doubt dust and bad ventilation would be causing such a strange issue but you can use that computer duster stuff. It's basically compressed air in a can that blasts the dust out of areas you don't want dust. That stuff is usefull. Just stick the straw part of the can into the air ducts of the system and give it a few sprays.

The reason I don't think it's dust is because if dust was inhibiting the system in some way, you would probably be experiencing the same problem with all of your games.

I really recommend you call up Microsoft, It's a quick easy call and you can figure out if your Xbox is still even under warrenty. I've called on many occasions and weird problems turned out to be simple things. It's a 24 hour support line and there's no age requirement to call or anything. You'll get a voice recording that tells you which button to hit to get the help you need. Then a person comes on and you explain your probelm to them. They'll ask you a few questions and they'll decide whether it needs serviced or not. You can tell them the serial number of your Xbox, which is located on the back of the system, and they can tell you whether it's still under warrenty or not. You don't need the reciept, the box or any paper work. Just the Xbox. If it is still under warrenty they'll fix it at no cost..

You won't need the reciept as long as the Xbox is under warrenty. If it's not under warrenty it still won't help to have a reciept. They charge you either way to ship it in and fix it if your warrenty is out. Cheaper to buy a brand new one, Every Xbox comes with a warrenty. I forget how long the warrenty is but they extended it a bit a few years ago after everyone was having that dreadful red ring of death problem with them. By ow, depending on when you purchased your system, the warrenty is probably out on it. Mine was well finished and I was still having problems with the thing so I just went ahead and got one of the problem free new ones.

And if the Xbox is under warrenty DO NOT open the system up. Doing this immediatly nullifes your warrenty and Microsoft will considered the system tampered with and won't fix it at all. You won't even get the chance to pay for them to fix it because they will keep your Xbox if you shipped it to them and they consider it tampered.

Just so I'm clear, DO NOT open up your console for cleaning. This voids the warrenty making the Xbox completely useless if it's broken and you can't fix it yourself. You can use computer dust cleaner spray cans to blast some of the dust away.

Thanks for all your help guys. Skyrim is working fine for now, but I'll still give that number a call. At least it's working now, so I'll have a semi-competent xbox over the holiday season. Again, I really appreciate all the help you've given me. See you guys on the forum!

All of a sudden, Skyrim just crashed on me. When I rebooted my xbox, the game would't start. My xbox doesn't even know the disc is inside. I've opened and closed the tray dozens of times but nothing. Nothing! The disc is in perfect condition. It hasn't even been touched since November 11th. All my other games work. What is wrong? Has the game just finally died? Honestly I wouldn't be surprised at this point...someone please help.
You are in the wrong forum. There is a Tech Forum for the Xbox to ask your question in.
