My game wont start!

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:22 pm

All of a sudden, Skyrim just crashed on me. When I rebooted my xbox, the game would't start. My xbox doesn't even know the disc is inside. I've opened and closed the tray dozens of times but nothing. Nothing! The disc is in perfect condition. It hasn't even been touched since November 11th. All my other games work. What is wrong? Has the game just finally died? Honestly I wouldn't be surprised at this point...someone please help.

There are a few things you can do...

Check to see if the problem occurs with other games... try at least five
REALLY check the Skyrim disk
Try it on a friends xbox...

Otherwise return it... Disk corruption is rare but it does exist...

I really hope this isn't the case. I bought it on the other side of the country. I'm assuming I'd have to return it there? Ugh. I've been playing this game since November and it hasn't done this. The disc hasn't even been touched like I said

If your other games work then it is either the disk which is damaged or a corrupt save game... you could just be an unlucky one in a million :(

This is just rediculous. First I have to deal with legions of bugs glitches and oversights, and now this? This is like the final nail in the coffin. The game is literally broken, unplayable. I just wasted $60.

Corrupt saved game? Does that mean I can access other saves?

Your situation is VERY VERY rare it is most likely damage to the disk and not a game fault. In fact i am pretty positive it is not the game but the disk. My Xbox used to create a ring a round my disks and basically broke them, I had to return my xbox.

Just calm down, try some other games see if they work, five is a good number.

It might be your Xbox is done if the other games do not work either, if the other games do work, then your Skyrim is done for, try taking it to the retail place in your area you bought it and explain the situation, you might be able to get a replacement, but I doubt a refund, have your receipt as well.

Yeah what country are you in anyways? You will most likely be able to get a replacement disk... if it is the disk. Give you disk a REALLY good wipe. ALSO try a new game and see if you get the freezing...

This is strange. At first it would play all of my games, except Skyrim, then it wasn't playing any. Now it's playing all of my games except Skyrim again. Does that make any sense?

It sounds like it's a problem with the hardware not Skyrim... you might need a new xbox

Your Skyrim game is not at fault here. Sorry to tell you but it's your Xbox. I've had that sort of problem numerous times with my old Xbox and I kept having to send it back to Microsoft and they would ship me a "like new" refurbished one. So I went ahead and bought one of the new 250gb shiny black Xbox's. The old white ones had so many problems it was ridiculous.

yea its the DVD drive, it has gone.
a wee while ago when i USED to mod xbox's, they would have this error with the NEW XGD3 format discs that a being released.
basically there is extra data stored on the OUTSIDE of the disc rim, in some cases the laser can't/won't reach that far, and will often have problems. Microsoft sent letters out to people who owned these xbox's offering replacements. I guess you fell through the cracks.
OR could be disc :/

Call 800-4MYXBOX. I had to call them a few times back then. They'll ask you all about the problem you're having, walk you through a few things that should fix it but don't then they ask you for your mailing address. They tell you an empty box with labels inside will be shipped to your house and you need to put your system in the box, stick on the labels and ship it away. You won't be seeing your Xbox for a while. It took them about a month each time for me and this wasn't even during the holidays.

Well this is only if your Xbox is under warrenty still. If not, you might be looking at buying yourself a new system as it would be cheaper and less time consuming.

Its definetely your xbox

I dont own an xbox but as far as I heard, call microsoft to see if you can get a replacement, if you dont have your receipt well... im not sure

if you do get a replacement xbox, here is how to stop your xbox from going crazy again

1. Keep it ventilated, my friends lies his xbox down right on top of a fan, so that works
2. Clean it out every once in a while, if you feel like taking a risk, you can open it up and take out the dust, JUST DO NOT touch the parts inside the xbox, I actually cleaned out my PC with a vaccum, not kidding, it worked fine.

In fact, if your other games are not working, try cleaning out the dust of your old xbox, never know it might work

You won't need the reciept as long as the Xbox is under warrenty. If it's not under warrenty it still won't help to have a reciept. They charge you either way to ship it in and fix it if your warrenty is out. Cheaper to buy a brand new one, Every Xbox comes with a warrenty. I forget how long the warrenty is but they extended it a bit a few years ago after everyone was having that dreadful red ring of death problem with them. By ow, depending on when you purchased your system, the warrenty is probably out on it. Mine was well finished and I was still having problems with the thing so I just went ahead and got one of the problem free new ones.

And if the Xbox is under warrenty DO NOT open the system up. Doing this immediatly nullifes your warrenty and Microsoft will considered the system tampered with and won't fix it at all. You won't even get the chance to pay for them to fix it because they will keep your Xbox if you shipped it to them and they consider it tampered.

Just so I'm clear, DO NOT open up your console for cleaning. This voids the warrenty making the Xbox completely useless if it's broken and you can't fix it yourself. You can use computer dust cleaner spray cans to blast some of the dust away.
