Not the gaming community but marketing in general, trying to seperate products to "cater" with demographics based on hobbies and who knows what else.
Yeah, it's just like anything else. When you've been marketing the same product for decades you have to keep reminding people you're there and coming up with gimmicks to keep people interested.

I mean, just look at toothbrushes. They come out with new, "revolutionary," toothbrush designs every year. According to every dentist I've ever spoken with none of them work any better than the original "stick with bristles" toothbrushes.

Next thing you know they'll be selling "Slammin' Celery" and "Eggplant Explosion" in the produce aisle at grocery stores.

@Softnerd, slam in celery and eggplant explosions that have been modified to have super anti diabetic properties, or extra nutrition, etc, now that'd be interesting.

The sweet taste of loneliness in every bag.

Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less stupid.
I think tylenol, advil and such is stupid. Opinion.
I don't usually eat when I play games, but when I do, I prefer [s]Dos Aquis[s] Mambas and Baked Lays.
Lays Baked chips are amazazing. They're expensive, like $1 - $1.70 more than normal ones, and you get considerably less chips than the other regular chips. I wish I knew how to reproduce them so I wouldn't need to buy em.

Yeah sure, it's a free country and you're free to play video games all day and all night, while stuffing yourself with gamer cookies and washing them down with energy drinks, whenever you want. That doesn't mean anyone ever needs to and it definitely doesn't make it a good idea.
Same thing as above, witty tylenol and advil, no one needs em.

I don't understand why you guys hat in on it so much. Where's this hate coming from?

Logical fallacy. You presume that all things are as less necessary as other things. Preventing pain to function in other things ranks higher than killing yourself on salty snacks. In this case the prevention of pain will increase performance in life. Not needed? No, technically not. Though using said aid will greatly increase your ability to function. Salt packed snacks? Not necessary. Will do nothing but slowly kill you (depending on how much you eat).

Considering everybody is now becoming a gamer (because of how great technology is becoming) being a gamer is seen more, and the whole 'nerd look' for gamers is pretty much gone.

I only hope the younger generations would learn from us ol' fogies.
Whilst gaming you neither need nor want...
funyun powder, cheetos dust, nut salt, soft drink effervescence, chocolate flakes nor chip-oiled fingerprints anywhere near your gaming machine of choice.

But if you truly feel a need to sate some desire to comsume, I highly recommend a tumbler of The Macallan.
Appropriate for quiet nights of reading, writing, fly-tying, painting and, yes, even gaming. :read:

Ok, but have you tried Gamerscotch? It's like scotch, but it's green and has added caffeine and taurine for enhanced performance...and stuff...Single-Malt Megafrag is the best flavor...

Bahaha, Destructoid did a review of those snacks ages ago I think. They sound ridiculous.
Also some of them are coated in flavoring so they'd get all over your hands and then you really might as well be mashing a bag of Cheetos into your face.

When I get really serious about gaming, I don't need food. Or sleep. Just Dew. Actually, come to think of it, one of those beer/soda can hats might work out nicely. But I can't stand "hat hair."

All I drink is water, it's generally the only thing keeping me going any time of the day barring my infrequent and tiny tiny meals.

I don't tend to eat while playing video games. I'll drink water or juice but I'd drink them anyway regardless of whether I'm playing video games. Gaming isn't a sufficiently strenuous activity to warrant eating something different just because I'm playing video games.

I hope they suggest these high fat foods with exercise. This is more of a physical energy sustainment, and unless your thumbs are getting tired then something else could be used. Hmm I am trying to think... maybe honey? As natural as the peanuts yes, but not fattening.

If this is how people view gamers, I don't think I want that label anymore...

Be proud to be a gamer in spite of this. Yes we are generally viewed in really [censored] ass light and I don't like it but oh well. Of all things in the world with stereotypes, ours is second behind racism >_>.

If you're a gamer you do this
If you're a gamer you do that.

All the while the [censored] has not sat down to get to know you or has visually seen your gaming habits.

That stuff in that pic? I don't eat that stuff.

Lol a real gamer doesn't eat or drink any of those things, Most sit down with a 12 pack of mountain dew and some doritos and call it good.

I personally just drink water, Have been for the past few months. I gave up Caffeine and was surprised about how you can achieve the same effects from water. I drink 128-220 Oz. of water a day.

Take some sunflower seeds put them in a package aimed at a large market of gamers and charge more. Ummm, think I'll just stick with the generic sunflower seeds and pay less.

I've actually forcibly removed people from my computer room who ignore the "No Food or Drink Permitted Beyond This Point" sign on the door.

Eating, drinking, and technology mix about as well as Jack Daniels and Speed Racing.
