Games you think would benefit from being moddable - but are

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:27 am

So we're all happy with TES and Fallout, how we can mod those into whatever we want. But what other games do you think could've benefited from having mod tools?

I think it would've been amazing if you could make custom missions or cities in the Assassin's Creed series.

AvP3 would have benefited beyond belief and had a great following if it were allowed to be modded with maps, new game scenarios, etc... . However developers were stingy and it just went down the drain. I'm just glad I picked it up for like $25 instead of the $60 that it was being retailed for guess it's good to wait on some things.

GTA 4

Mines modded.

High detail weapon models.
Real world cars. Ferrari's, Fords and Lambos instead of the fictional game cars. Getting chased by police Zondas and Corvettes FTW :)

Shame it's a hit and miss procedure though since it's not officially moddable.

Thing is almost all games are moddable with the right tools and effort and many modding communitys have spring up for non-moddable games. Granted some are just so locked down, it's hardly worth the effort.

Mass Effects, I think.
Also Dragon Age II. There is so much mods could improve...
Fallout 1 could use a Restoration Patch..

Daggerfall.

I concur.

Civilization game series. I don't know if there is any mods to Civilization 2, but I do know one TES-modder who have modded Civilization 4 I think.

Even if the Total War game series have modding tools they're not easy to use as TES CS, but I would welcome a better modding tool for Total War that's for sure.

I completely agree! :hubbahubba:

A few things like more sidequests, better crafting, better implementation of inventory and miscellaneous loot could turn it into a much better game.

There are lots of mods for Civ4 and Civ5.

Just downloaded this one today:

Spoiler

"Civilization NIGHTS" - attempts to fix the AI problems with Civ5, among other things

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/09/mods-and-ends-civilization-v-nights/#more-73124

Features:

  • It would be bold and incorrect to say that Civilisation NiGHTS eliminates all the problems with the AI but it does a damn good job. While there are still issues, over an entire game I find opponents to be more unpredictable, more difficult to box in and more believable.
  • There are seven branches now and over a 100 policies to choose from. Although you have to start from the bottom of each branch, they’re all open and picking one will never lock off another.
  • Each tree unlocks 2-3 Governments at various points, and as you get further down each tree, they unlock special synergy abilities that boost a variety of buildings from the Renaissance Era onwards. This is to ensure that as you progress through the game, buildings in later eras feel powerful compared to their early era counterparts.
  • In the mod, citizens actually generate happiness. Expansion and militarisation take it away again.

I am being completely true about this but from the games I have that are not modifiable I don't see the reason they needed to be modded with. I see them as complete games.

Plenty, especially among older console games that had no options for changing them. I would love to mod Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Just, like...double all the enemy stats, is all. The game is great but was always depressingly easy, it would be nice to actually *need* those levels and spells and tons of items.

Mods would make those complete games 120% + more complete

You don't seem to understand what I just said , I don't see them as incomplete games. I see they have no reason to modified. I don't always want more content that was given in the game. Some games are made in my opinion "complete" with no reason to mod them or to have dlc.

I'd like to see some console games getting modding tools more extensive than just a few map editors... somehow. I want Sony to work that out... if not for this console generation, then the next. It should be possible... and it'd give them an advertising edge over the competition, so Sony... do it. :deal:

Have you played DA2?

IMO there were some serious problems with that game that could have benefited from community mods.

I disliked DA:O very much so it wouldn't matter to me to the first place and plus I heard that game was utterly horrible and dumbed down. I do feel bad for the DA:O fans who were disappointed by it though so they should deserve something more.

You don't want more content? More replayability?

There is certain games that "I" believe have enough playability as is. It is not like I am against dlc or something which is seems like to some of your eyes I don't want any add on content whatsoever. I am simply stating that "I" think certain games are the best they can be and have no need to be tinkered or more content.

Obviously all games should be modable, I think the Elderscrolls series stands testament to that. But of all games in particular, I think Alpha Protocol could have been saved from complete mediocrity with even the slightest mod work. I'd also like to see online shooters start supporting moding again. The CoD series and Battlefield series both allowed mods, and had fairly active scenes, but as of late moding is no longer supported because of "piracy" supposedly.
