George is at it again

American Graffiti is my all-time favourite film.

I wouldn't mind Lucas tampering with it as long as he doesn't make it worse. It took Ridley Scott a few goes until he had the perfect Bladerunner version.

Yeah, I did enjoy The Final Cut more than the previous versions but imo it's the exception that verifies the rule.

I like some of the changes they've done over the years. A few extra creatures here, a few spaceships there, as well as some alteration to colour.
But changing content I don't like. I hate my DVD release where Darths ghost is that of young Anakin.

Or that heinous Hut palace change. It has to be the worstestest.

American Graffiti and THX are both awesome imo. It is tho' kinda ironic that the best SW film (V) is not even directed by him.

You call it ironic. I call it "telling."

we're complaining about blinking Ewoks?

Such minior changes arent worth complaining about - Han shoots first, yeah, I can get that; but a "nooooooooo" that was actually scripted and blinking ewoks?

I don't really see anything wrong with the original stuff so why does he need to tweak it and modernize it.

I think any complaint involving ewoks isn't entirely unreasonable.

Does he care about how much work the RiffTrax crew will have to go through to resync with this new version? How selfish!

I don't care what George does to his own movies, just so long as there in an option on the disk to watch the original Theatrical Release version. Kinda like the special edition Terminator 2 release, it came in a metal sleeve and gave you 3 versions to choose from.

He was never really good as a director. Not in THX, not in Graffiti, not in Star Wars. The films he envisioned that really stood out were never directed by him. That is why I made one heck of a http://i54.tinypic.com/2r2ciuc.jpg in 1997 when it was announced that the new prequel would be directed by the man himself. Kind of ironic in hindsight to do just that, seeing the picture on that trope's page.

I would say he was never a good hands on director, but a good overall director. Barely talking to his cast, and when he did, he'd just say "Faster and more intense". He revolutionized a few things in Graffiti, namely how soundtracks can be incorporated in movies. His direction and design choices are good, but not his handling of talent, or conveying his 'message' to the cast, or other crew member.

And now he's talking about prequels/sequels to Blade Runner (in addition to his two alien prequels in the works). What does it mean?

Does he have the right to tinker with his own IP? Sure. Should he? Well I don't know?

I personally don't think that adding Haden Christianson to Episode Six was a smooth move, or the Prequel Emperor, same with adding Binks too and the same for other CGI scenes that were added. And the whole Han shooting first thing, didn't he change that to make Han a better role model - as if being a SMUGGLER wasn't good enough <_< - ? Digital enhancements are fine by me - provided I can turn them off - but all the stuff he does just strikes me as bad taste.

EDIT: Wish I could see them totally original

I just watched all six movies in order a couple of weeks ago. I have to say I liked all the additions to chapters IV through VI.

The one that bugged me the most was the CGI addition to the dance/song scene at Jabba's palace.

That has to be one of the lamest scenes in any movie ever. Lucas went from making movies for everybody, to making movies for little kids.

All I can say, is no matter how many times George changes Star Wars, Han still shot first.

I don't recall the original song being anything to write home about either. *shrug*

Oh it wasn't by any means. But I think the CGI was just odd and off to a more extreme.

I don't even really remember that original that well, as I'm not a huge SW fan, but to me it seemed odd.

How incompetent can Lucas make Greedo, seriously? Not only does he sit there and talk to Han, like this was a Bond movie, but then he misses from point blank range. Please stop the [censored] Lucas.

In this newest edit, Georgie replaces Han's laser pistol with a http://www.costumeandpropshop.com/images_product/normal/Rubies/6174.jpg. Poor Greedo's heart just can't take the surprise.

That sweet, sweet merchandising money is just too irresistable. It's like green crude oil.

why the [censored] are they messing around with the first three movies again. they need to CGI Jar Jar Binks' ass out of the last movies along with young anakin skywalker. redo anakins scenes with someone who doesnt come across as a whiny emo and put princess amidala into princess leia's gold bikini. get the important stuff done first and forget about ewoks blinking.

Maybe we can get the ewoks replaced with walkie-talkies?

it's just like extremists trying to take racial content out of huckleberry fin... I mean just leave it alone. Thats how it was back then, so just leave it for history's sake.

We Americans always try to make ourselves look better then we really were. At least that's what I've been learning in my history class.

The same can be said for the star wars movies. Just because there were mistakes in an old movie and now we have the power to fix them doesn't mean we should. Leave it alone for the memories!!!!!!

I have much bigger issues to worry about. Havingriginal copies on vhs, I can afford to be blase about George Lucas's shenannigans.
