Ghosts should be... GHOSTS!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:45 pm

i do miss all the undead from oblivion, the zombies, ghosts. . .the WRAITHS!!

seriously going through a door in a dungeon to go deeper down, and all you hear is the heavy breathing noise of a wraith, you start moving real slow as it gets louder, you see a shadowy outline but its to dark to tell if it could be a wraith or just shadows so you keep moving, it gets louder and louder, finally it moves right infront of you scaring the crap out of you, as it bumps into you it detects you sneaking and suddenly your in for a fight.

i miss wraiths

I miss wraiths and shambling or headless zombies.

Especially in nice dark dungeons.

Yeah, this is pretty dumb. The fact that we can even hit them is dumb. They should only be killable with silver or enchanted weapons or magic.

I haven't tried punching a ghost to death yet but if it's possible then that would be pretty bad  And looting them too? Ha!

Skyrim's ghosts are more comedy than frightening. Missed opportunity.

Sigh... I've only said this twice before:

They shouldn't be immune to physical weapons because ghosts are physical, tangible objects. But their ethereal nature should lend them a resistance to standard weaponry, I think.
They are certainly tangible things. Why do you think they leave an ectoplasm behind? They may be ethereal but they are very real creatures. The only supernatural thing about them is the fact that they bear the soul of someone who has already died.

I had a previous Idea and hope of what Ghosts would be like in Skyrim,
They would be the more scary element to the game.
My idea was that they would be completely invisible, you could hear your heartbeat raise when you enter a room with one, maybe get some creepy 1 frame flashes of them, have objects fly around like the House of Horrors quest because that freaked me out o.o
They would drain your health and you could not kill them, your defense from them is some Restoration spell that wards them away, and to make it fair they cannot follow you out of the specific room, so the point of Warding them off is to get some treasure in there or something :|

Looting a ghost is sillier than finding gold or gems on a wolf?

I guess our ideas of what ghosts 'should be' are very different. I'm more used to ghosts in the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games where you can't even hit them unless you have a +1 weapon of some sort (if I remember correctly).

No, they are just as silly as each other.

I really don't like the ghosts in this game all they did was take the character models and make them transparent yaawwwnnn.

The whole "one way mirror" logic itself is flawed, maybe there is some special means that allows a ghost to harm me, yet I cannot harm them unless using a special tool.

there super bright and easy to see too.

on one occasion i was fighting a random wolf in the woods to the SW of morthal at around 9:00pm ish the light was fading but it was not quite pitch black yet. as i fight this wolf a ghostly nord runs nearly right between us not paying us any mind, just looking at me as he goes by as if to say "evening!". after i dispatch the wolf i set off up a hill in the direction of the ghost, as i reach the top what do i see but a bright beacon of light making its way through the woods below me. . .

. . .oh yeah i chased him down and dispatched him, still not sure what he was up too. . .

there is a special means that allows them to harm you, magic, and that is, for once, not an excuse to cover a plot hole. ghosts are, by their very nature, unnatural and have to use some form of magic just to exist and keep their forms tied to mundas instead of going to the dreamsleeve, that magic that they have to have is what they use to harm you, so it is far from a "one way mirror" when they do the same type of damage you do to them

Bethesda have never been that great at doing ghosts in my opinion (although the sound effects were rather cool in Daggerfall).

It's almost as if they're hesitant to make them too horrific. I mean fair enough, TES games aren't supposed to be horror games.... but with such a strong emphasis on dungeon crawling, stronger horror elements / atmosphere wouldn't hurt in certain locations.

the wraith like creatures in the meridia quest are scary looking, could have used more of them.

Another oddity is the fact that you can loot clothes, ingredients, and other objects off piles of ash.

I'm fine with how they look (even though I prefer ones from previous games), but the fact that you can loot them, kill them with any weapon and that they BLEED (what the...) are things which make them utter crap.

Skyrim is a great game, but I still can not understand how they miss simple things like this that were done perfectly well in previous games.

Those were cool. I am thinking about making a Mod that adds them as a common enemy in places where Skeletons are possible (Since they are part Bone)

The Ghosts in Skyrim are my favorite so far but, like said before; bleeding and looting needs fixed. As far as weapons go; Silver, Magical, and Daedric should be the only weapons that can harm them.

Wish they were more like the ghosts in Dark Souls. Completely intangible, able to attack and move through objects, and invincible unless you had either a cursed weapon, or were yourself cursed.

Ditto. Zombies really scared me in Oblivion. Something about their lopsided gait and surprising charge speed is just very unnerving...

Dont forget about that gut-wrentching moan!! :o

Yeh. Bad thing was that the Zombies in Oblivion weren't leveled. They died too easily for me most of the time.

Would it be a coincidence ghosts got the most questionable ovredubbed voice acting in the game?
