Ghosts should be... GHOSTS!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:11 am

Dear Bethesda,

I know that kill cams are cool and all, I really enjoy them myself, but... when I bring justice to a wretched spirit, I don't want to see blood spurting out of it's neck. Why am I even able to decapitate a ghost? Disabling it on them would be nice.

You can even loot real items from them :( I sure miss the variety of undead from oblivion.

I actually like the new ghosts in Skyrim. But the whole head thing is what I don't understand.

I also agree with the loot. Their loot should only be Ectoplasm.

I've gotten the kill cams where I physically grab the ghost and stab them with my sword. Them having tangible loot is kind of stupid.

This is another failure of Bethesda. Not hating, but really bethesda? There is no excuse for this.

Hi chart4ever! Hope you're having a nice Sunday.

Yes, ghosts are poorly implemented. One would've thought that only special enchanted weapons would be able to harm ghosts and no blood would ever flow on such occasions. I say no bloody ghosts, no sword or arrow killabe ghosts and, lastly, no lootable ghosts.

That is just disrespectful.
I like the new ghosts, i like how they have cool and unique dialogue, same with the new zombies. Like they thank you when they die and stuff.
I found the oblivion ones to look like a ghost from scooby doo...

I didn't even know you could decapitate ghosts and watch blood come spurting out of it. They definitely missed that one.

What happens to a ghost after you kill it? Does it go to ghost heaven or does it become another, albeit less substantial ghost?

Skyrim's nords are so dumb that they can't understand what being a ghost should be. That's why they bleed, obviously.

Ghosts are ethereal bodies of a person that has already died. The person's soul, for whatever reason, has remained bound to this ethereal body. When the ghost is killed, the soul is released to wherever it was going to go before it became a ghost.

you should have to use a special weapon to kill them also... using metal vs a ghost makes no sense

They shouldn't be immune to physical weapons because ghosts are physical, tangible objects. But their ethereal nature should lend them a resistance to standard weaponry, I think.

They're certainly not what I would think of as a ghost but then I'm not from Skyrim so who knows what ghosts are supposed to be like there. We're only going by our own perceptions of things and a more traditional view of ghosts here. I guess Bethesda can do what they please in that area since it's their world and not ours. i tend to take it for what it is and not worry so much about my preconceived notions of how things should be.

They should of just changed the Ice Wraith, Wisp Mother or Magical Anomaly mesh and given it the zombie sounds, making ghosts be more unique.
On the subject of undead, I seriously miss the zombies from Oblivion and Morrowind. They gave me the creeps when I heard their moaning in dungeons.

I wish I could harm ghosts only with Silver like in Oblivion , that made them scary at times.. :obliviongate:

Hahaha that's funny :D

Ditto. Zombies really scared me in Oblivion. Something about their lopsided gait and surprising charge speed is just very unnerving...

I miss a lot of the lesser monsters from oblivion - goblins, zombies etc. I think you could still hurt the ghosts with regular weapons in oblivion - in daggerfall there were a lot of damage specifics - vampires, ghosts, I think the undead in general needed silver or enchanted. I don't know why they insist on changing what worked. I liked the decayed zombies - would have worked well with the draugr.

ghosts are not tangible things, they never were in TES before skyrim, only silver and magic can hurt them, this is clearly dumbing down, there is very little else to call it other than making them too simple. in oblivion i had to prepare for any dungeons i visit (and with that one out-of-the-box trap that filled the ruin with undead after you got to the end, i always did prepare) but in skyrim my normal load-out works on every single thing, that is not very entertaining imo (maybe i like it when i have no chance every now and then)

There weren't any Zombies in Morrowind. Only Zombie-Like Creature was Bonewalkers.

If you are talking about the Corpus people.. Then you are incorrect. They aren't even undead!

They are certainly tangible things. Why do you think they leave an ectoplasm behind? They may be ethereal but they are very real creatures. The only supernatural thing about them is the fact that they bear the soul of someone who has already died.

Bonewalkers and corprus monsters both share zombie-like features.
