Girl falls through the sidewalk in China

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:31 am

China's building codes/regulations leave quite a bit to be desired. There was an incident where 30 students were killed by a collapsing school that was poorly built. Remember technically China is still in many cases what people would consider a 3rd world country even though that model is obsolete. Only on the coasts of China is it really developed very much. China's government is rich but the people are treated very poorly. I actually know quite a few people that live there or used to live there.

In short this kind of stuff is not all that surprising to me. However the car thing is very shocking. I was told lots of chinese communities are very tightly knit. Well that's enough gross overgeneralizations from me.

They built a 30 story hotel in 15 days, they probably spent about 10 seconds on that sidewalk. Not surprised by this at all.

Must have got the materials to make that sidewalk from Acme....

In other words it reminds me of something that would happen to Wile-E-Coyote.

All that's missing is the floating in mid-air before realizing she's going to fall, then holding up the "Help!" sign with a distraught look on her face.

I know it isn't because I remember the news stories, but that picture just looks completely photo-shopped to me. What a wild thing.

However, this is a big problem. Sink holes are very real, ask anyone in Florida. There are some legendary sinkhole pictures from there.

Or she fell all the way through and ended up in America.

Nope, she would have stopped when she hit our well-made sidewalks on the other side.

This is what we call tofu leftover project. I don't buy that waterhole crap.

There have been scams, and in concord with corrupted judges and jurisdiction loopholes, a lot people are wary of lending a hand to strangers. You are fined for millions if you handicapped someone in a crash, but only fined for several thousands when you killed him. Evil intents may sprout from some drivers.

China is covered in these holes, it's part of the Chinese Invasion Defense System, or C.I.D.S.

Only issue is, like Team Rocket from Pokemon, they constantly forget where they put the holes.

First of all I totally agree with this statement. That's why I have nicknamed that establishment Toxic Hell. Because that's what it feels like afterward...

Second of all.. HA! Wow... I wasn't sure if I should laugh or not because it looked too much like a cartoon moment come to life. I was totally unprepared for it to look like that.

Heh, when she fell, I almost heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-3XbeRzISc. Or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3uj5dBE6Yc&t=00m37s.

Although I have to say she shouldn't have held on to that cable. If she fell through, she'd wind up in America, and then we'd finally have a way to get to China cheap and easily!

She died. I just looked it up. Atrocious.

However, I'm going to hold judgement on this one. I wasn't there, I'm not Chinese, I have no idea what went through those peoples' minds. Maybe they wanted to help but were afraid of getting in trouble for it.
We've been no better many times in our own past. I know about the Kitty Genovese case, and it's just as tragic. There are other, less famous examples.

It's terrible, but no-one can judge.

Back to the sidewalk story. It's quite a bit more light-hearted.

What scares me more about that case is the perpatrator.

But OT, the video is kind of funny, but then you realise that soemone just fell through the sidewalk and might eb injured.

A cracked pipe can flush out the crushed rock and dirt from beneath a foundation. I've seen a building before where they've cut through the slab and a situation like this could have happened. This is more extreme of course and was likely helped by an erroneous aggregate, but perfectly plausible.
