Girl falls through the sidewalk in China

Um.. lol?

I mean, it's not funny really. It probably hurt like a ...
But, seeing as she's more or less OK, I think it's safe to say... that was kinda funny to watch.

Strange, though, isn't it? You can tell from the video clip that the sidewalk was just totally paved over... nothing. Nothing underneath to support it. What the heck? Maybe the original surface underneath collapsed, leaving the sidewalk to hold itself up.

They built a 30 story hotel in 15 days, they probably spent about 10 seconds on that sidewalk. Not surprised by this at all.

Yea, I watched it without sound. I don't know if the sound offered any explanation or not.

Since no one got injured, I'd say that was rather funny. :P Out of all the unexpected things that could happen that day, she probably didn't imagine falling through the pavement.

Yikes. I've always had a secret fear of walking over things like manholes and storm drains because I think they'll give way underneath me and send me falling into a dark pit. Seeing it actually happen to somebody, and on seemingly intact pavement, freaks me the hell out.

It's good to see people ran over and stopped their cars to try to help. If this happened in New York people would probably just think it was a prank for YouTube.

Ninja'd.

Atleast people bothered to help this time, maybe they felt the need too, after how bad the last incident made them look.
Still, good job on the taxi driver.

Or they wouldn't even notice the girl falling in the first place.

Seems you're lucky enough to have not seen the footage of the Chinese girl being repeatedly run over.

What?

Don't bother linking me, but is that seriously what it sounds like? Is there an article about it that doesn't have any video or images? That sound deplorable. I hope there was some fallout.

Did she survive? It's not unheard of that people have been trampled to death by masses of people.

I will save you time, a girl got run over. People just walked past her, another eichle went over her after that iirc. Eventually a woman helped her.
But lots of people jsut ignored her. Like I already said, she died.
She was a very yong girl too.

It's worse than what it sounds like. She was run over by one car, then another, then a bunch of passerbys that saw her lying there bleeding did nothing. It was about 10 minutes before someone helped her. Not sure what happened to the drivers that ran her over.

I know she made it to the hospital alive but I think she was brain dead. Don't know what happened after that.

No, the driver made sure of it. When he ran over her twice, and then a motorcyclist ran over here. This wasn't a busy street. Those were the only two vehicles that went down it, save for a few bikers and pedestrians who ignored her.

I don't know which is more amazing, the fact there was an underground cavern of sorts under the pavement, or how thin the pavement was.

Drivers were arrested.
Just checked becuase I couldnt remember her age (she was 2) im guessing they will be executed or something. Mainly becuase it made the entire country look bad.

It made them consider http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/nov/30/china-good-samaritan-rules-shenzhen Maybe her case made people more willing to help others, still it shouldnt have happened.

Also, I'm sorry for making this thread depressing.

She died. I just looked it up. Atrocious.

However, I'm going to hold judgement on this one. I wasn't there, I'm not Chinese, I have no idea what went through those peoples' minds. Maybe they wanted to help but were afraid of getting in trouble for it.
We've been no better many times in our own past. I know about the Kitty Genovese case, and it's just as tragic. There are other, less famous examples.

It's terrible, but no-one can judge.

Back to the sidewalk story. It's quite a bit more light-hearted.
