In Fallout 1 and 2 you could open a barter window with almost anyone you talked to. Hopefully they will bring that back, since the same guys that made Fallout 1 and 2 are making New Vegas.

When people revive dead threads constantly, you know we're out of discussionable material.

That said, I think it'd be interesting like Fallout 3:

*Encounter Lucas Simms*

>Hey I like that Hat/Coat,Any chance of trading you for it?

[Sucess] Sure, what do you want to trade for it?

>Inventory Screen

Alternative

[Failed] Sorry, I'm not interested in parting with these items.

Uh, this was only revived once, by me. Most people seem to like the idea, too.

EDIT: Sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought you meant this thread.

No no no. I just mean in general, Im seeing alot of old threads become revived, usually a sign of lack of new things to talk about. xD

Why would you want to reverse pick-pocket anyone?

A variety of reasons already mentioned - you want those NPCs to live, you like them, you're feeling generous, you've got 800 suits of Talon armor in the locker at your house, you're bored.

And one other reason that people haven't mentioned here is.... on PC, with fancy clothing mods, it's nice to dress up the population in some of those clothes. :)

(Oh, and the hostile version - reverse pickpocketing live grenades and mines to blow folks up. Never tried that, but FO3 kept a statistic for it. Heh.)

It would be nice if you could just give people things through a dialogue option. There'd have to be something about not being able to give a friendly NPC any opposing faction armor since if they equipped it there's a chance that their own faction would attack them. Having a trade option with non-companion NPCs would be incredibly useful. It would also be nice if they pointed out that you were being very generous by giving them high end items.

Wonderful idea. There have been numerous occasions where I wished I could do this.

Is there not a give option with the new companion wheel?

Honestly, I think they should have a barter button and a trading button on the side of the dialogue box for every NPC. That would make things much easier.

This! Most definitely.
In STALKER (or was it one of the mods for it?) you can trade with every friendly NPC you meet. Not all of them might have a lot of money, but if you have something to sell, they'll buy it.

You'd think that in a post apocalyptic world everyone would jump at the chance to barter for something they might need, right?

The whole pickpocket system should be cleaned up a bit, so you can either take their caps and unequipped items, or slip a primed explosive in their pocket. The whole reverse pickpocketing anything is so dumb.

Defiantly agree that the trading system should be expanded to be more like the fallout 1/2 barter system. If an npc has something you want, you should be able to rustle up a good deal for a trade. There could even be some npc's with unique weapons and clothing that require a certain level of the bartering skill to get.

I basically thought of this when making this thread, but even if you trade people in STALKER better armor/weapons they just keep it in their inventory. They would rather stick with a half-broken AK-47 for some reason.

The reverse-pickpocketing had many uses in Oblivion, but a bit less in FO:3. Remember on how you can reverse-pickpocket the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal from The Grey Fox before you beat the thieves guild questline? That was always fun. And the fact that you could get Daedric armor, and then give it to The Annoying Fan or whomever you want to give it to. It was also good for murder, putting potions or poisoned apples in someone's inventory. In fallout 3 all it was good for was getting a special piece of equipment. You could at least give your companion stuff in FO:3.

Well that has more to do with stalker's engine I think. In the Oblivion style Gamebryo engine you can be sure that people will equip stuff that you give to them if it's better then their current equipment.
You could also compare it to Fallout 1/2's barter system but the only reason to really barter with people is to extract tasty, tasty caps from them. I never decked people out in cool armor and weapons just for looks or to try to keep them alive in F1/2 simply because that was never an issue. Well, the exception would be followers, but F3 and Vegas already have dedicated companion equipment share functions.
