"Give" option

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:41 pm

Hi, basically I loved Fallout 3, but I found some things I didn't like. They can all be fixed with modding, but I have yet to see a mod for this: A giving option.

Remember how in Fallout 3 if you reverse-pick pocketed anyone, even if it was beneficial to them, it would give you bad karma? I hated that. That was my biggest pet peeve of Fallout.

So I'm basically wondering if there was a way so you can just give an item to a random NPC through a window. I don't care if they probably won't accept it most of the time unless they are friendly with you, I just want it in the game. I really hope that this can be put in, as I find it would be a good addition.

Does anyone else agree with me?

Here's my Bathroom and Upgradable houses idea thread:

totally agree.... its a pain in the ass when ur trying to deck everyone in rivet city out in combat armor and plasma rifles, and to compensate the bad karma i have to go give the [censored] out front 8 bottles of purified water.

I agree with you.

I reverse pick pocked Enclave power armor on Lucas Simms out of the kindness of my heart but it was sooooo difficult to do. (to be honest though I did it to get his sweet hat and duster) :twirl:

I also (altruistically) reverse pick pocked better armor and clothing on everyone in Big Town. I have a soft spot for those guys and I just wanted to make their lives better.

I wasn't too stealthy so I had to burn through a lot of stealth boys before I got the Chinese stealth suit.

Would definitely be a useful feature; especially since its a pain in the ass to reverse pick-pocket a guy for bad karma when you're only trying to give him better kit.

Honestly, I think they should have a barter button and a trading button on the side of the dialogue box for every NPC. That would make things much easier.

I agree with both the topic and the above statement.

I like the idea
although I find it slightly difficult to incorporate in the game itself

Why didn't you just take his hat and duster? If your going to get bad karma for reverse pick pocketing enclave armor to him then what's the point?

I don't see why we would need that. Would almost make the charisma SPECIAL worthless.

How so? Surely all it would take would be (as the OP said) a window, then a chance of the person accepting the item being based on reputation, karma, your Speech and their disposition towards you.

Why would you want to reverse pick-pocket anyone? I can understand how it would be useful in say, an escort quest, where giving the people under your care better gear would be beneficial, but in any other circumstance it seems pointless.

The only thing I've ever reversed pick-pocketed was stuff I didn't want and couldn't sell. Then I threw in a grenade for free, just because I'm such a nice guy.

Give? Isn't that another word for "communist"?

You, insignificant citizen do not give. It is ours, as are you. We give, to us. To everyone.

..Mainly to us.

The point was keeping him alive and on my good side. I liked Simms. And I wasn't a bad guy, I just did bad things sometimes. :twirl:

Don't think I didn't contemplate it though. I coveted that outfit. Many a game I watched him debating on what to do until I realized I could just reverse pick pocket. My moral issues behind me I am now sheriff and Simms is my deputy. :3

And not a life was lost.

You wouldn't, and that's why we'd love a 'give' option. We just want to be able to give stimpaks and stuff the normal way, rather than having to suspiciously rummage through someone's pocket to do so.

Barter with every NPC, please. I spent a hour giving everybody in bigtown talon/combat/tenpenny armor one time, so I wish I could just save time and GIVE it to them for no bad karma.

I would love for this to be in the game purely because it would be fun to kit everybody in weak cities with strong armour and weapons.

Oh wow. This forum is pretty active, then, no? I posted this a day ago and it has over 300 views! That's pretty sweet. I am REALLY glad that you all like the idea. This is exactly what settlements like Big Town were for. Giving them weapons and armors, atop of teaching them how to lay down mines and such. I do hope this option is implemented.

I like this idea. On the technical side, it could work like this:

You select the "give" option, and the game makes you access a hidden container. You can put items in and take items out of that container as much as you like. When you close that container window, those items are transferred to the inventory of the NPC you are talking to. Then, they re-evaluate their equipped items, and equip the best they have. In order to take items back, you'd still need to pickpocket them. This would also need to be evaluated for exploits, such as getting around encumbrance, and put something in place to prevent it.

I agree, especially with Followers but with anyone. There were times in the game where you could give things to an NPC, like in the Germantown Police HQ, that should be universal.

I guess this is just a bump for this thread. Hopefully it can be added to the game? I won't feel right if it was a mod as I think Obsidian adding it in their core game would be a lot better.

When people revive dead threads constantly, you know we're out of discussionable material.

That said, I think it'd be interesting like Fallout 3:

*Encounter Lucas Simms*

>Hey I like that Hat/Coat,Any chance of trading you for it?

[Sucess] Sure, what do you want to trade for it?

>Inventory Screen

Alternative

[Failed] Sorry, I'm not interested in parting with these items.
