Guess what my biggest complaint with NV?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:52 am

Its that the devs promised me a nice reward for completing hardcoe mode, and all i got was a stupid [censored] achievement. THAT IS NOT A [censored] REWARD.

Achievements really are one of the worst things to happen to gaming. "we need at least 20 more quests so the player feels like they get a full games worth!" "O no need, well just had 50 pointless grinding achievements to give that same illusion and it will take us half the effort!"

A [censored] achievement. Seriously guys?

I thought they made it pretty clear that the reward was an achievement.

Considering we knew this pre-release, and the game ends after the MQ, did you REALLY expect some sort of God-Mode weapon?

edit: also why would you get anything for completing hardcoe? its easy as hell.. ive never played without it lol i just like it cause it actually makes most items have a point.

I remember multiple interview that they said "player would be reward an achievement for finishing the game with hardcoe."

They did make it clear, and I knew ahead of time as well, but I agree with Nydas. Trophies don't concern me although I don't mind going for them. Yeah, a nice God weapon on a new game plus would've been satisfying. Hehehe.

Edit: I haven't played hardcoe mode yet so maybe it is easy.

You guys are right. Clearly, the average player reads all developer interviews to find out as many spoilers as possible, prior to playing the game. What was i thinking avoiding spoilers, reading the prompt that said i would get a reward (and it did make it sound like hell of a lot more than an achievement), and selecting it since i felt it would be worth the hassle of drinking water every 5 minutes.

Well it wasn't.

A shirt in the mail, "I beat Fallout New Vegas on hardcoe, and all I got was an achievement."

**Come to think of it... that would look cool on an avatar (xbox or forum).

I wouldn't say its improved. I can understand how some RPers would like the Eat/drink/sleep aspect, but its so unrealistic. (drinking a gallon of water a day, eating and sleeping once a month). Not to mention theirs never a shortage of food or water. You didn't even have to carry any with you, and suffer the consequences, since its literally everywhere. The HoT stimpack didn't make it any harder than normal. Companions dieing was really the only "hard" and interesting part of hardcoe mode.

lol.....game time goes by far to fast to make it realistic if it was than you would spend the whole damn game sleeping, eating, and drinking and never actually get down to anything man.

A trophy/achievment is a special award?, I burst out laughing when I saw that, I actually had no idea what the award was going to be, I tried to stay clear of too much information before I got the game, and no, I've never been interested in any award, having hardcoe option is reward for me, and I've never been interested in achievments, quite possibly the worst trend since computer gaming began.
It was funny when the message popped up on my screen about an award for completing hardcoe, all I could think was let me get on with the damn game.

umm so how do you do a REWARD in a single player video game, really?

Better skipped if you ask me.

being disappointed about a promised 'reward' ... what can I say.

YOU WIN FALLOUT! yeah there you go. Seems like it should be enough.

A reward by definition is 'Something given in return for something done.' Obsidian has met their end of the bargain, just because it isn't YOUR definition of a reward does not mean it is a failure, you just want more than a proof/reminder of completion.

To complete the game in this mode is not only an accomplishment but a reward in itself. I suppose a unique avatar shirt or item would have been nice for those who feel the need to boast.

Completing FNV on hardcoe isnt anything special and doesnt really deserve a reward in my opinion.

In game, it states only on the hardcoe screen that completing the game on hardcoe mode will net you a "special reward." Using that term to describe it when it is only a '[censored] achievement,' as the OP put it, is pretty much nonsense.

The fact that they stated before hand what the reward would be isn't relevant. To assume(or, really, in most of the case of most of the replies here, impose) that absolutely everyone read up about the game before it launched is naive, though really it just looks more like people just want an excuse to beat up on people who have a legitimate complaint on an internet forum.

hardcoe mode's actual difficulty (which I will agree is not actually difficult in any way) also isn't relevant because the player doesn't know how hard it is actually going to be at the start of the game when it makes this promise of a special reward.

I would've expected at least a perk or something just based on that. Achievements aren't special. Using that word to describe it, no matter the circumstance, is a mistake.

They did make it clear: in interviews, in the guide, ect.

but the GAME doesn't make it clear the OP is right. "A special reward" should mean, you know, a reward. Gamerpoints/steam points/ect. are not a game reward. What the popup should say is "if you happen to complete this challenge, and are playing on the right platform and there are no bugs that require you to use the console to complete the game, a number that is a snapshot distillation of your gamer ego will go up a very slight amount."

I happen to enjoy achievements, just because I think they add a fun meta-game aspect to the game. In RPGs though they tend to break immersion, and that's the worst thing you can do in an RPG.

Do you really need extra motivation for playing the game in hardcoe mode? Satisfaction and fun from extra challenge should be reward enough.

Good sir, you are using logic on this board, and I'll have NONE of it. With your fancy textbooks and your Vault education. :stare:

Things like this boggle the mind.

I played through on hardcoe, got the achievement, and was satisfied. Interesting experience and one I probably will never repeat.

I'm not sure what kind of reward people would expect from completing hardcoe.

The Achievement is enough for me.

Admittedly I was somewhat disappointed when I didn't get something at the end of the game for completing it on hardcoe mode. I got the achievement, but it would've been cool to get some bonus for future characters like a few more traits you could start the game with.

Obsidian did it's job though. I cannot bring myself to play the game on Casual mode anymore. hardcoe is too much fun.
