Gunpowder in skyrim......

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 4:25 am

I got shot by a Dwemer machine, so I am guessing there is gunpowder. And think about it... They have magic... They don't need some powder to make fire because they can shoot the crap out of their hands. Plus its kinda hard to develop advanced technology when there are portals to hell popping up everywhere, dragons, and evil elves that are trying to destroy the world all the time...

I feel like gunpowder leads towards Fallout style combat. Plus, how would we set it off unless we were using lightning/fire spells?

It's a good thought, however I feel that the best alternative would be kerosene traps.

Guns back then were insanely inaccurate (muskets had those little balls that flew every which way). So it's kind of hard to make a gun which didn't take forever to reload and was especially useful.

Funny how if there was a small hand held object that shot out fireballs the way staffs do it's all good but if the same thing shot out a small metal pellet "Nope not in my TES"

Seems idiotic to me, why waste resources to something that mages can naturally do? Not to mention do you actually think mages will allow them to create it? No. If I was a Mage and heard about someone making something that makes my craft useless I would kill them without thought. Not to mention in a battle gun powder would be horrible. Imagine this, you're in a field. Two battles are about to clash one sides front line (they have to be reasonably close due to early arms inaccuracy and lack of range) is all carrying bags of high explosive powder. You gather up your mages and they all cast a minor spell that does little damage to a man, but has a wide area of effect, the enemies side is devastated. Their entire front line is dead and they have no more ranged support along with the explosion injuring many behind the Rifleman with the explosion and the shrapnel from the Guns exposed black powder exploding inside them.

Yup. Lets bring guns into Nirn seems like an excellent idea.

Studying how to cast a fireball would most likely take longer than loading a musket. Gunpowder also already exists outside of Dwemer ruins judging by this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Jokes. And even though muskets are ridiculously inaccurate, a group of musketeers could be trained faster than a group of mages.

Nope. As there were no Chinese Alchemists around to stumble across the recipe. Besides, with magic...who needs gunpowder?

i havent meant to give the wrong idea, they would be basic in design and wouldn't be overpowering (so as not to upset true TESers) some people seem warm to the idea, but its a big NO-NO with the Lore/TES side of things

The imperials in oblvion actually represented a medieval era knight. Ya know, chivalry and the whatnot, and the skyrim imperials represent bronze age greek and roman type centurion soldiers. This would suggest that beth is following no sort of timeline, because the bronze age was before the steel age.

Actually there could be gunpowder in skyrim, it was revealed in Redguard that cannons and gunpowder do exist in the Elder Scrolls universe but its more likely that its not popular because of the mages and having the power to shoot fireballs.

There already is gunpowder in the TES universe. The Redguards have cannons on their ships.

I would not encourage bringging fire arms into TES, but I think, if done properly, cannons would be kind of cool. Old style 12th century cannons on the tops of battlements would be cool to see, though I would rather see ballistae or trebuchets, with a few a few scorpions for the infantry.

No point. Fireballs and icicle spears are much more accurate. Not to mention that the only limit to fireballs is how much magicka you have and fires as fast as you can cast it. Muskets take a minute to reload and fire. I want more Dwemer steampunk things, not guns.

*cough* Dwemer

The Dwemer were technomancers, not scientists.

Also, Tamriel is not Earth.
There is no reason to assume technological progress of any kind.
