hackers, modders, and cheaters

I've never understood the "script kiddie" mentality. The people that join a server and then just start killing people endlessly until either the server empties or people are forced to TK the hacker endlessly until a mod come on/they leave. Why ruin a game for everyone? It makes no sense. Video games are supposed to be fun, but when people ruin the game for EVERYONE how can that be fun? If people are actually getting enjoyment out of this kind of thing they should probably get psychological help for their underlying antisocial personality disorder. :swear:

Playing Devil's Advocate here:

The aim I think is to work people up who take the game way too seriously. The normal players are just collateral damage. There's thousands of Youtube videos of players flipping out over stuff like this instead of just moving on. Not saying I agree with it but I think I understand it. A lot of people need to lighten up when playing.

I also don't think you should lump the modders with hacks and cheaters, even on consoles. Most don't do it for an unfair advantage but to get what they believe to be the best experience out of their console. I just don't see the big deal out of adding a bigger hard drive or a new os.

I wasn't talking about modded lobbies (which I avoid). I was talking about players that mod their controllers so the can have semi-automatic weapons that shoot like automatics or they mod their xbox to have a myriad of cheats.

Some cheats I have tun into on Xbox Live (MW2 and CoD4) to name a few:

Wallhack (with scrolling advertisemant... which is a DoS attack and can disconnect the match)
Lag Switch
Hearing the enemy team
Permanent IR Scope, even when not scoped in. The weapon doesn't even need the scope.
Modded gamertags (while in lobby). This one is a dead giveaway that a player is a modder/hacker.
Flying
Aimbot

Frankly it is ridiculous and it annoys me to no end that Microsoft and Activision take their time to do anything about it. The wall hack is new and has been around for about a month now. I did not name Bungie as they are always on the top of their game and bring down the banhammer regularly.

But it does brighten my day when dashboard updates come in to ban all of those consoles. I hope the May 19th one does so.

My brother ran into a very bad on on MW2 on PS3. No one could kill the hacker (or leave the game, the hacker hacked away the leave game option) and when the match ended, the stat text was replaced with 'You got *swear word* owned!' and he had lost all of his unlocked stuff with no way to regain it. It has been fixed but for a while we had to keep off the PS3 in case the hacker tried taking something else.

Anyway, hacks, mods and cheats on multiplayer games are very bad. On single player games... not so much (infact, mods on single player games can be good).

A while ago I played MW2 on PS3 and the whole server was ahcked to a aliens versus predator thing where one team saw thermal vision white and had a knife and a throwing knife, while the other saw purple-ish everything and had only a knife. Very strange, but it didn't give an unfair advantage to anyone. Either ways, I deleted my who MW2 save data and loaded it again to get rid on the thermal vision, which then followed me to other servers.

But aim-botting and such.. what is the point in doing that.
