Halo: Anniversary Gameplay

Post » Sun Jul 24, 2011 6:35 pm

Seeing as how my Halo CE disc is completely functional and has the same campaign it is worthless.

Then don't buy it, no one's making you. But don't proclaim it as worthless.

@Mikedzines: 343 Industries, the company now in control of the Halo franchise, isn't making Anniversary. Saber Interactive is. 343 has been focused on Halo 4 for something like two or three years already. The only thing 343 is doing with Anniversary is making sure Saber keeps it as close to the original as possible as well as directing them in terms of lore for the added terminals.

Edit: @DEFRON: Perhaps, yet not only is it giving it a nice new coat of paint for the fans who played the original, it's also bringing it to a new audience, and by that I mean the graphics focused audience that is the new generation of gamers.

Seeing as how entertainment value is a thing subjective to the individual, I am well within my right of my opinion to call a game worthless. I was quite looking forward to reliving the LAN parties my friends and I had from years gone by with this remake, only to have such a possibility ripped away due to stupid corporate decisions.

I hardly think bashing a game in it's thread is constructive. And how is keeping the multiplayer in Reach alive longer a stupid corporate decision? Would you REALLY rather they split their fanbase like Activision does EVERY year with new Call of Duty titles? And it's not like they're making you BUY Reach as well to play the maps, they're including the full multiplayer experience WITH Anniversary.

That's what seals the deal for me. You get the full Reach Multiplayer Experience, plus the awesome original and now graphically up to date original Halo campaign, plus it's now able to played over Xbox Live.

Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me, especially for only 40 bucks.

1. Not bashing the game, bashing the remake (because it isn't a proper remake in my book).

2. It's stupid because it isn't a loyal remake, so why bother after only 10 years?

3. I never said Activision wasn't stupid.

4. Is that definitive now? Last I read was it wasn't certain which way it would be done. Not like it matters either way, as pretty much anyone who gets their game will already have Reach. Anyone in it for the multiplayer at least, that is (since it's reach's multiplayer).

I like the concept.

However, after watching that gameplay it was just like watching someone play Halo: Combat Evolved 10 years ago. It was a very good looking game a decade ago, and still is.

And why add the switch over feature? Just go buy Combat Evolved for £10

Sorry, I'll stop being such a defeatist.

Yeah, halo looked great. I was actually impressed when he did the switch back, for a 10 year old game, its aged well imo.

I think the best reason to get this is that you will be able to have the awesome multiplayer (no dual wielding or new insane weapons or anything, with classic maps like Bloodgulch) on Xbox Live. Out of all the Halos, I still think Halo 1 had the best multiplayer experience. Maybe because you were forced to LAN, and that made it so much more fun.

Freaking internet killing LAN parties. I miss LAN parties. :(

No the multiplayer will be like reach. different maps, maybe different weapons, but gameplay will be like reach.

Which makes it worthless, as I said. Map packs are dumb, plain and simple.

It doesn't matter how it's done in the end. As soon as I found out the Multiplayer wasn't going to be a loyal recreation, I knew the remake was worthless.

Yep. I dont see the point of this, players buy it becuase its halo 1, if they want reach multiplayer they will be playing reach.

On the topic of Halo multiplayer, what is 3s community liek ? I sold the game years ago, didnt have XBL. I actually look at it, and thin I prefer it to reach. But I am assuming there arent many playing it these days with reach.

I pop in 3 every few weeks and give it a good hour.

The community is fine, although the only ones that stayed are the good ones.

If you haven't played in awhile, prepare to get stomped for several days before you get your bearings straight.

Edit: And, no matter what time of day, you can still get a good match of Social Slayer.

I assume they are also the more mature people then... I hope. God I regret selling halo 3, it was great. Except for "Cortana" [censored] that mission.

Becuase halo ODST has the maps could I just lay that multiplayer and it would count as 3s ? Or are the maps downloaded from the disk like the shivering isles disk ? I still need to play/buy ODST.

Yeah, you can just buy ODST, and play 3's multiplayer. I can't remember if ODST has all the downloadable maps, but I'm pretty sure it does. The only drawback is that you still need the original halo 3 disc to play the campaign, but you can find that at a used game store for dirt cheap.

Edit: And yeah, the players themselves are pretty mature. Since Reach came out, no one cares (or at least not as much) about ranks or anything anymore, so its a little more relaxed. Besides, the handy mute button is invaluable just in case.

Oh goody, another Halo thread turned to partial insults...

I personally won't be buying this, simply because my Halo 1 disc works still for my 360 and I don't have the money to.

Why does everyone hate "The Library" and "Cortana"? They were tests of your metal and manliness and it seems you all failed miserably!

I actually like the Library. It was difficult, but very fun with a friend.

Cortana on the other hand, can go to hell.

I felt that Cortana wasn't nearly as well designed as it should have been. It should've had you go out into the main chamber. But no, instead we're going to send you through a level that looks like the inside of someone's colon.

Yeah I had changed with my internet provider. The new connection had issues. Instead of spending on XBL, I made an account to test if halo would play. As soon as I joined some kid in a high pitched voice "Oh no we have a new guy".

I'm in total agreement with DEFRON here. If the mechanics aren't the exact same, then what's the use?

They are the same, why wouldn't they be?

The only two things that AREN'T the same are the graphics and the multiplayer. Campaign is 100% like the original, including weapons, weapon power, health, AI etc...

I'll definitely be getting it. I love Reach's multiplayer, but I haven't bought any of the map packs. Lately I've really been wanted to get back into Reach. Instead of paying $20 for the current map packs and $10 for the classic, I'm happy with paying an extra $20 on top of that and getting the two existing map packs, the new classic map pack, AND Halo 1 with new graphics. So for me, I get three map packs which are normally $30, making the Halo remake only $10, which is well worth it in my opinion.

That's actually the most interesting part of it, for me anyway.

What is actually happening is the game is using two engines running simultaneously, the graphics is done by the Halo Reach engine, while the gameplay uses the exact same code that was in the original Halo.

Agreed. I definitely don't think that Halo:Anniversary is worth the full 60$, but it's only 40. I know it's basically the beginning of what very well could be a massive milking of the franchise, but let's hope that won't happen. I just hope these new halo games still maintain that classic halo feel, but still bring enough new stuff to the table to make it distinct. Hopefully 343 is up for the task. I believe Halo 4 is their first game.
