Halo: Anniversary Gameplay

Post » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:40 am

Here's some gameplay showing off Halo: Anniversary. It also shows off the button that switches between the oldschool graphics and the new graphics. It looks pretty sweet. What do you guys think?

I like the concept.

However, after watching that gameplay it was just like watching someone play Halo: Combat Evolved 10 years ago. It was a very good looking game a decade ago, and still is.

And why add the switch over feature? Just go buy Combat Evolved for £10

Sorry, I'll stop being such a defeatist.

I get nostalgic lookin' back at the original Halo. I like the idea of the anniversary game, but I don't see the point of spendin' $60 on a game that is basically the same thing as the one I already have been playin' for 10 years.

I think switchover's really cool...I have no way to access the original game as my computer's utter crap and I no longer buy Xbox's, so when I play this at a friends house this is gonna bring back some of that great nostalgia.

As much as I like the idea of the Original Halo with modern graphics, it just doesn't make sense to me as anything but a cash grab. If I want to play a Halo with modern graphics I'll go play Reach. If I want to play Halo: Combat Evolved I'll pop that in to my Xbox.

There will be terminals in the campaign that will give some insight to Halo 4's campaign, so that will be interesting.

By the way, it's not a 60$ title. It's 40.

I'll play it, just so that me and my brothers can play co-op over xbox live. It is a bit of a cash grab, but oh well. I WOULD hate it if they changed the gameplay too much, but the video shows that they've pretty much kept it in tack.

Honestly, I thought we were finally done with Halo. :(

They should have just stopped at 1.

I believe the series was always supposed to be a trilogy, if I'm not mistaken.

When you have a big series like that, I'm sure it's hard to resist not milking it. But hey, it's a good game, and they do mix it up a bit every iteration. It's not as if it's Call of Duty.

Agreed.
It takes several years to develop a Halo game, where as it takes not nearly as long for a CoD game. So far, every iteration of Halo has brought enough improvements to justify purchasing another one. We'll see if that trend continues, or if they end up being pure cash grabs.

I actually do like CoD, but that's because I don't actually have to pay for it. My grandmother just has it in her mind to buy it for me every christmas, because she asks the people at best buy what every gamer is playing nowadays. ( I asked for the Witcher 2 on my birthday, but instead got Black Ops :(, I actually like Black Ops, but it doesn't hold a candle to a good RPG)

I think the best reason to get this is that you will be able to have the awesome multiplayer (no dual wielding or new insane weapons or anything, with classic maps like Bloodgulch) on Xbox Live. Out of all the Halos, I still think Halo 1 had the best multiplayer experience. Maybe because you were forced to LAN, and that made it so much more fun.

Freaking internet killing LAN parties. I miss LAN parties. :(

From what I gathered, though, it won't feel like Halo CE, as the engine is being lifted from Reach. This completely defeats the purpose of the game for me. A sticky grenade should take 20 seconds to explode and a single frag at your feet should kill you. If that's not the case the multiplayer is worthless to me.

I was looking at this game as a chance to re-live the LAN parties my friends and I had back in the day, but without the multiplayer acting like it should, the nostalgia value of the game (and therefore the value of the game) is zero.

Can't wait to get it. I loved Halo: CE, and with the gameplay being the same with better graphics, it will probably end up being the best Halo game created besides the original Halo: CE.

Actually, I'm almost 100 percent positive that only the campaign will feature xbox live multiplayer. All other elements of Multiplayer are not for Xbox Live. At least I think.

The multiplayer is Halo: Reach's multiplayer. They stated in an interview that they didn't want to split the fanbase.

Which makes it worthless, as I said. Map packs are dumb, plain and simple.

It doesn't matter how it's done in the end. As soon as I found out the Multiplayer wasn't going to be a loyal recreation, I knew the remake was worthless.

Hardly.

The first Halo had arguably the best campaign of the series. To cast a campaign-only remake to be "worthless" makes you seem something of a Call of Duty style "really devoted fan."

Also, map packs are only dumb if the core game is lacking in maps to begin with, which Reach was not. As well, splitting the fanbase after Reach only being out for just over a year come November would be a [censored] move on Microsoft's part.

Seeing as how my Halo CE disc is completely functional and has the same campaign it is worthless.

Not to mention I think pretty much everyone has played that campaign to death. It only having been 10 years ago, it lacks the nostalgia and hard-to-get factors to reignite playing the campaign.

Think about how re-releasing this game will effect the development of the series. By making this game look brand new and getting their fan base over from REACHm they are instantly starting their game mechanics at page 1 while justifying the right to do so in name of nostalgia.

Once Halo 4 rolls around, we'll have a similar play style to Halo anniversary until later games deviate back to a Reach style.

Its a conspiracy I tell you!
