[RELZ] hardcoe mode compatible timescale adjuster

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:37 pm

It's sort of bugging me that time doesn't pass while you're gambling, so I just wrote a little mod to address that. I'm not sure what effect it would have on hardcoe mode on its own though, so I'm thinking of wrapping it up into another release of the timescale adjuster (and Imp's More Complex Needs) since those are written in such a way that it would work exactly as it should - you exit the menu to find you're appropriately hungry, thirsty, or tired. Anyone have any interest in it? If so, I'll put some time into a new release of the timescale adjuster, otherwise it will just have to wait for IMCN.

Also, woohooo, a http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/11/02/25-best-fallout-new-vegas-mods/4/!!

so you won't wake up dead if you're using hardcoe mode

so you won't wake up dead

wake up dead

Mahalik: This morning, he woke up dead!
CJ: How in the hell do you wake up dead?
Mahalik: 'Cause you're alive when you go to sleep.
CJ: You're telling me you can go to bed dead and wake up alive?
Mahalik: You can't go to bed dead! That [censored] would be redundant.
CJ: No, it wouldn't. 'Cause you can go to bed and not be dead, and you can die but not be in a bed.
Mahalik: But you are in a bed, man. That's how you wake up dead in the first place foo'!
CJ: Damn! That's some quantum [censored] right there, man!

xD its from a movie. Don't remember the movie very well but I remember the scene very clearly.

And I have been meaning to ask. If I set up the mod to have a timescale of 2:1, what would you suggest for hunger/sleep/thirst rates if I want it to build up at about 80% as fast as it does in Vanilla NV with a normal timescale. When I tried to set up it myself with the suggested times, sleeping actually added more fatigue than it healed. And 3 hours of rest would cause me to wake up with a dehydration stat of 400 and hunger of about 280. Messed around with the numbers for a while without success. Figured it'd be a whole lot easier and logical to ask the creator.

Jeez its like a math test.

At 2:1 time's going at 1/15th the speed of vanilla, so, with "HTS Scales with TimeScale" enabled (as it is by default) you'd want to set all the multipliers to 15, but leave the sleep restoration multiplier at 1 - that would get the rates back to vanilla. For 80% of vanilla, the multipliers should be 80% of 15, or 12. The sleep restoration rate is always decoupled from timescale, so that should be left alone, though you might want to tweak it if you find that about 8 hours of sleep doesn't restore a day's worth of fatigue. Since you're using a rate though that isn't really based on reality, it might not work so well when sleeping/waiting (in fact the rate you want is effectively 2.5 times my suggested rate, so eight hours of sleep will register more like 20). The other option would be to choose the "HTS does not scale with timescale" option and set all of the multipliers (except sleep restoration) to 0.8. This might also cause you to die in your sleep though. I think what I need to do is implement one user's suggestion - create a separate multiplier for sleep/wait so you can slow that down and prevent dying if you're using an odd combination of timescale/HTS multipliers. One of the earlier versions of this file did nothing but set the timescale back to 30 when sleeping or waiting - that might be a better option for you, if you don't mind having rates at 100% of vanilla rather than 80%, since it would resolve any issues regarding excessive rates during sleep/wait.

Thanks man. If it makes it too difficult I'll likely take your suggestion on the variable timescale. But otherwise I'll head off now and see what your suggestion gets me. Wish me luck.

Using the static timescale set to 5. I was having this problem and had NO idea this was why a full 8 hours of sleep was near deadly... Thank you so much for fixing this.

I assume the static figures (3.5, 5.0, 5.0, 0.4) are suitable for a timescale of five, or is there a recommendation?

The recommended values make it so that it takes about 8 hours, gametime, before you start to suffer the lowest hunger penalty (so, three meals a day and you're good), 4 hours for drinking, and 16 hours for sleeping. So it's meant to roughly match up with real life, and I'd recommend those numbers for any timescale lower than about 10 - at a timescale of about 5 or 6, the real time between meals will be about what it is for the vanilla game, so it's pretty well balanced. Setting your timescale lower than that might make things too easy, your character would only need to eat about as often as you yourself do while playing the game. That's why I liked the idea of using forevernomad's dynamic timescale system with a needs mod - it makes it a little more difficult if you have to eat more frequently while traveling cross country.

There's a http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34718 available. It should address the crashes that were occurring during quests that involve setting the clock forward (nothin but a hound dog, for auld lang syne), and the sudden increase in HTS levels that came along with other cases where the clock is set ahead (installing implants, teaching Jack new recipes, learning new moves, etc.).

playing on hardcoe this is a must have.

one question though: if the mod menu shows "HTS Scales with TimeScale", does this mean I have to click it to use this feature (then it'll show something like "HTS doesn't scale with TimeScale"), or does this text mean that scaling IS ALREADY enabled at his point and clicking it will disable scaling? can't for the love of god figure it out on my own over here.

I seriously need to reword that button. If it reads "HTS Scales with TimeScale" then HTS currently scales with timescale - meaning adjusting your timescale will cause you to eat or drink more or less frequently in realtime.

thats what I needed to know, thanks! i guess adding something like "autoscaling is now ON" or "... OFF" respectively may make it a bit clearer. don't bother if I'm the only one who doesn't get it though =)

You're about the tenth person to ask, so it definitely needs changing.
