hardcoe or NOT?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 4:34 pm

Yes, there's always that. Speaking of which, I'm a little worried about my character's bladder. He never pees.

Nobody bathes either. The wasteland must be a stinky place. Chances are they just relieve themselves like animals. Just let it drop and walk.

I do wish for a more difficult hardcoe mode. I won't play without it on, but I still want it to be harder.

I think the toilets are better suited for planting. Just think... The fertilizer and water is already in there. Not to mention that it's already a pot. Just throw some seeds in there and you're set.

Also, you could use them to make chlorine gas.

I don't think I would enjoy any of the "lesser" difficulty modes, it would be too easy. I started at Very Hard on hardcoe and found the game was highly challenging and well-balanced overall.

I wouldn't want it to get too easy, as then it goes by too fast.

First game: no hardcoe.

Second game: hardcoe.

I only did it for the achievement. I [censored] hate hardcoe mode.

Also, hardcoe mode is not supposed to make anything more "difficult" as that dimension of the game is handled by... Difficulty settings.

It does add difficulty. you have to manage you inventory more closely and take into account the other needs.....

Not cool guys, it's not hard.
Oh my god, 25 votes against first hardcoe play through?
Onomatopoeic is not necessary, you could've turned it off at any time.
Because you are scared doesn't mean anything.
So, next time, don't be scared to try new things.

I started playing the game with HC (and hard difficulty) and can't play without it (just too damn bland). The HC mode is, admittedly, somewhat underplayed but it does manage to create a certain feel to the game that is sorely lacking from the "casual" mode (not least thanks to the adjustments to healing). I wouldn't say it makes the game much harder though, as there were only few occasions where I felt I was in real danger of dying - I was much more often worried about my maniac companions' health than my own.

hardcoe is worth it, took me 67 hours but I accomplish it. Worked for house and I didn't realize till lvl 30 I'd made a monster, but I continued. hardcoe is worth every minute.

Well, there are several outhouses in the game that you can "activate."

I like the realisticness of hardcoe mode, but constantly having to check on my H20 and FOD levels were super annoying to me. Plus, even though it wasn't that hard at all, it still made me so cautious that I would be too aprehensive to go out and spontaneously explore.

If you didn't have to worry about suffering from starvation/dehydration, then there is absolutely no point to the food and drink items. In FO3 they are just extra junk to weigh you down when you can load up on stimpaks or sleep whenever you like to restore your health.

I didn't find the FOD and H20 levels annoying at all in FNV. I just ignored them until I started to suffer from effects. The problem is that there is way too much food and drink available and you don't have to sleep very often, so it's a bit too easy.

Fortunately I found a very amazing mod called "Harder hardcoe Rates," which when combined with the "Expensive Wasteland" mod, made the game exponentially more balanced and fun. They don't make the game more realistic, but they make it a lot more challenging and fun. After installing these mods, I occasionally run out of water and food and frequently suffer from starvation/dehydration or get to the advanced levels of sleep deprivation with no mattress (or toilet to drink out of) anywhere in sight.

If you travel at night is the water requirement less? Do you dehydrate less?

Wouldn't play this game with hardcoe turned off. It's the only way to fix the idiotic healing system that ruined FO3 combat.

No, it's a steady rate, unless you drink more soda/alcohol/atomic cocktails during the day.

My first playthrough on hardcoe mode. I also will keep playing in hardcoe mode on the next playthrough. I think hardcoe mode makes the game more interesting.

Thanks and if you have the trusty Vault 13 Canteen from the Classic Pack, does it make a difference at all?

I bought from Steam, so I had the Caravan pack, no canteen. I think it just lets you fill it up with water when you are near a source of running water.

IMO, when playing vanilla hardcoe (without any mods), water and food are simply too abundant in the game and you only need to sleep a couple hours every 7 or 8 days, so it's kind of interesting, but quickly becomes pointless, other than the ammo weight and the fact that you don't instantly heal from stimpaks (which is a huge improvement over non-hardcoe mode).

It wasn't until I installed the Harder hardcoe Rates mod that I really began to enjoy the hardcoe mode, because I started actually running out of food and water and suffering massive penalties.

I've played 2 games at 150 + hrs but haven't tried hardcoe. Now that I've made the Novac Motel room much more useful, maybe I'll give it a try. I tried a "hardcoe" mod for FO3 but all it did was piss me off. I never increase difficulty beyond "normal" because I simply don't believe in the concept of ANYTHING being able to survive a full clip directly into their ear. That's not difficult, it's just plain stupid.
It sure would be nice if I could actually get the bonus pack that I am entitled to. I'm through screwing with Steam.

the canteen seems to do it every 5 mins or so but im not certain i sold mine for 2caps cause it wrecks hc mode, sold all the pre order stuff because i was halfway thru the game by the time i could use the code!gg
ah but i did keep the 10mm weathered pistol.
so back to the flask, you cant fill it up,it stays full forever and you take a sip every so often, say five mins real time...fast traveling and sleeping doesnt speed up the drinking of water so its kinda lame because it never empties as far as i can tell

hardcoe mode is the second best thing that was added to the game. Iron Sights being the best.
