hardcoe Really Earns It's Name

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:11 am

I would love it if they added hardcoe Mode +1 which I've suggested before.
That would raise the difficulty at least a notch or two.

Or +3... make the skill and strength requirements matter in combat (skill = much bigger spread; lacking str = dynamic recoil effects throwing the aim aside/much slower and less damaging attacks on melee).

Wtf hardcoe is easy. I had to get a mod to make hardcoe actually hard and the game was still easy, and i'm no pro.

I really hope they listen to us and add a +1, +2, +3, Extreme Mode or whatever they wanna call it in a DLC or patch.

spoken like a true console kiddie. go away please, before you whine bethesda into making their games pathetically easy.

it's not difficult at all by the way, and i don't think hardcoe is intended to be more difficult, just intended to be more realistic, and some of the difficulties that brings with it.

Once I found out drinking out of my toilet rapidly dropped my water meter, hardcoe became a simple annoyance.
All it was was having to periodically go back to my apartment. It wasn't as much realistic as it is annoying... <_<

how is drinking out of your toliet not realistic? pretty sure its possible in real life.. i dunno though never tried. also its your own fault if you want to gimp yourself by doing something like that not the developers... and im getting tired of people saying HC is jsut annoying... turn it off if you want or just take the 2 seconds to drink some water or eat some food or sleep... not that freakin hard.

When I play a video game, I don't very much like having to struggle every minute with every little thing I do.

hardcoe is difficult enough for me what with the crippling and healing and ammo weight concerns. I'm glad they don't have an Extreme Mode because then it would probably be an Achievement and I'd be compelled to earn it and, like I said, I don't like struggling every minute of a game. So that would really, really, really [censored] svck.

Extreme Mode? [censored] that.

HC is not a struggle at all. there's water sources everywhere, and you can carry purified water and cook the meat you get from monsters. Carry some Doctor's bags for limbs and stimpacks for emergency healing. Leave most of the healing to the regeneration implant.

It's not like it wouldn't be optional yknow...
Could always stick to +0 but some of us wants more of a challenge.

hardcoe wasn't challenging at all. Food, Water, and sleep were never an issue, and the only thing that made it a bit harder was the healing over time. Even with this just hiding for a few seconds was all you needed to do.

This isn't to say hardcoe mode isn't interesting, it just doesn't add a lot of difficulty IMO.

The food, sleep and drink is the annoying part of it. The reduction in the amount you can carry is the important part of this, and it probably doesn't go as far as it should. The healing over time stimpacks probably only affect the stimpack spammers.

So, you can't carry all the weapons and ammo you want, and you do have to carry food and water. You need to plan long trips, and you always have to watch out for food.

Some playstyles can be greatly affected while other playstyles may not be much affected.

Despite hardcoe mode not quite living up to its name and my other personal gripes of it, it did add a real, noticeable, layer in the games overall feel. When I started my 2nd playthrough with casual (just to see how it goes) it was a real what the [censored] is this [censored] moment. The sudden effects of food and survival skill having no use anymore whatsoever, unkillable companions, weightless ammo and spammable stims created this weird sensation of "this game is almost unplayable this way, so boring and numb it now feels"... and so I had to restart again after Primm and use HC.

Playing hardcoe with very hard doing just fine. It's way easy if you have companions, although i will admit i died a few times when i was running solo but that was mostly when i wasen't focused. With companions the hardest bit is them dying off and even that doesen't happen to often. I don't get how anyone can find any challenge in a easier difficulty. I'm not trying to sound "leeth" or pr0 gamerish i'm actually not that good in video games, but this is kinda easy..

I play on hard/hardcoe now and now wouldn't play any other way (might put it on VH next game).

Survival skill is actually useful (at least up to a skill of 60) because of the godlike gecko kebabs, more food than steak, more hydration than water, easy to find ingredients, and a weight of .25.

It is frustrating with my explosives based character, since all his ammo weighs so freaking much. But that's what E-DE is for, and it's not really a bad type of frustration.

The name is misleading. Everyone thinks "hardcoe" implies you have to be some sort of gaming god to play it; in fact, it just gives the game a slightly more realistic feel. The main quest of Fallout 3 was about getting clean water to the Wasteland, yet the player could go for months without eating or drinking; in fact the food items in F3 were basically irrelevant. 'hardcoe' mode just remedies that.

I may finish it once in hardcoe, maybe not. I play games to have fun, not worry about if i got enough sleep or food/water.

hardcoe mode was not the challenge of challenges I was hoping for. Why they did not include hardcoe +1, +2,+3 is beyond me.

I'm playing on very hard / hardcoe and the challenge in combat just isn't there. after getting my character about lvl 12, combat is so easy I get bored. There are a number of guns that make this game so easy it is ridiculous.

I'm actually starting to miss albino rad scorps and reavers from FO3. well, maybe not heheh.

hardcoe mode is for those who wish to play fallout as a more immersive experience. Having to worry about food, water, and sleep like in real life. I personally find it a more involving way to play the game in my 2nd playthrough. However i have to agree if you are new to fallout its def not recommended.

There are reavers.... not sure about the albino scorp though. I guess they do not have insane HP like the broken steel ones, but they hit just as hard.

This thread :cryvaultboy:

Really hardcoe should have been named Survival or Realism due to the additional factors as otherwise it gives different impressions to different audience.
As otherwise we have a whole thread of Epeen measuring "I never found it hard AND I HAVE MOD TO HAVE -5 STATS AT THE START I'M SO PRO",
Or those unaccustomed to gradual healing or maintaining uncommon stats "WHY I DIE, HUMANS NOT NEED SLEEP DURR".

Yeah, I'm talking bullet sponge reavers from FO3. i was exploring a reaver infested test site thinking I was in for the fight of my life. Nope, all it takes is a silenced sniper rifle.

I'm gonna go for a no companion play through pretty soon. I hate to lose the back pack though.

sadly i guess i was seeking a heavily survival influenced game because hardcoe even when you pump the rates way up, still fails to deliver in my eyes. the penalties are not severe and are infact quite laughable, up until you reach 1000. dying in your sleep however is a nice touch that has been missing since fallout 1. of course, the glow taught me to always save your game when you're in a safe situation, so i try not to let that happen too much :D

imo, hardcoe is interesting but to make it what so many of us crave, it needs far more severe penalties at all levels of dehydration and starvation. also, the standard rates are so pathetic its just asinine. at about 12.5x the normal rates, you have to drink a few times a day, sleep 6-8 hours for every 30 hours, and eat no less than once a day. to me, that seems like a far more 'hardcoe' approach, however, the issue is that there is nothing stopping a player from allowing the timers to go near 1000 because the penalties between 250-1000 are absolutely weaksauce.

Theres nothing "hard" about hardcoe mode. It just prevents you from being stupid going around without food, water (aid) and sleeping(hardly need to). You only need to carry about 5 wg worth of water and food at a days time. Ammo is weighted so it makes sense instead of fallout 3 where I could carry 100,000 rounds of 5.56 ammo without getting heavier (without mods). Campanions need to die so you don't chicken [censored] out of a fight because you don't want to use your precious resources.
I'm on my first playthrough on hard core mode on the hardest difficulty. I got my rear kicked in the first 5 levels. Once you pass the 5-7 level mark the game should be smoother because you should have acquired better guns, ammo, aid and other resources. The most tedious part of this difficulty is maintaining my hydration level which seems to go by the quickest, and making sure your not outnumbered 5-1 with similar guns out in the open. It gets you thinking about cover and your approach to the fight so if you need to retreat to aid yourself back up you can have time hiding somewhere while your health recovers. I took out the powder gangers ncr facility by myself on level 2 or 3 I think. I did so by using guerrilla warfare. I'd go inside and then back out allowing one or two to come out at a time which made it easier for me to take them out instead of 5 at a time.

All in all, hardcoe mode made the game twice as good. It doesn't turn you into a god and reminds you that you are mortal in the game. Even though I think I'm in level 21 and its getting too easy already. But deathclaws are still a huge pain in my rear. I don't have any weapon that can easily take them out. Which is pretty cool.
