Has anyone here played Borderlands?

Yes, but only enjoyable with friends in my opinion. Endgame leaves much to be desired and I don't want to shell out for the DLC. I think I will get borderlands 2 though.

I've only ever played it solo and I love it. I was turned off of going online because, from what I've heard, the majority of online players are kids with modded weapons and shields that can corrupt your saves.

I picked it up last month on Amazon just because it's so cheap. Wasn't expecting much because I don't usually like FPS games, but I ended up loving it because of the RPG elements and humor. The zombie island add-on is halarious and even more fun to play than the original game. I'm still actively playing Borderlands more than any other game right now. It's one of the best games of the past five years, imo.

As far as weapons go, I regularly try new weapons of different types without getting too worked up about the specs. The way a weapon feels when I'm shooting it is more important to me than the stats.

I played it, and loved it. My old computer had some issues with the video card that made the game unplayable, and since then I haven't gotten back into it. But from the bits I did play, I was a great game. Lol, after seeing this thread I want to reinstall it now.

I couldn't get into it. The style of graphics isn't my taste, and I got annoyed that I used two rockets to kill this giant dog thing, and it still didn't even do anything. I don't care if I am level 1 or 2 in real life, if I point a bazooka at an over sized dog it shouldn't even still be in one piece....
But other people really like the game. It is a great game with a lot of good content and a good multi-player option, I just never got into it.

Unfortunately, rockets in that game have some issues. Not sure if it's a calculation problem or something else, but they're just not that effective. Other weapons work great. (Of course, at lv1-2, all the weapons svck. They're weak, rusted, low damage, poor accuracy, and you don't have all your fancy "Shoot Better!" powers yet. A stock SMG on Lilith at lv1 isn't terribly good. An epic quality SMG on a lv30 Lilith with a dozen "Make SMGs Awesome" abilities? Rocks the world.)

I had a level 30 something character in Borderlands a year ago or so. Haven't played it much since. However my friend bought the GOTY version of the game on Steam a few days ago and we are going to play it together soon. :)

Easily one of my favorite games. I loved the art style, the gameplay, the humor, the guns, pretty much everything but the story/ending. As far as farming goes, I've never fallen into that trap, I generally stick to weapons that do specific elemental damage or have specific traits, it never really bothered me to pass up "better" weapons.

One thing that's strange about my computer is that it gets occasional choppy frame-rate in Dragon Age: Origins and Oblivion, but I can run both Borderlands and Assassin's Creed 2 with near full settings and absolutely no hiccups.

I've played it! Didn't like the back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth nature of the quests though. And the loot system sorta svcked. Hmmm, lemme check my inventory...should I equip Gun #1 or Shiny Gun #1 or Pretty Gun #1 or Pretty Shiny Gun #1 or Pretty Rare svck Gun #1 or Unique Pink and Puke Colored Gun #1... I don't know! I liked Scooter though.

I loved this game for about a month, maybe two of single-player gaming. Then I played a couple of the DLC's. My husband, during Xmas break, tried it out & played it for a month or so as well. He's not a big gamer but he liked the simplicity of it (eg, he's not a story/dialogue person). So we played some co-op together (over our network) and that was a lot of fun too. I haven't had the desire to pick it up again since tho. Will I buy the sequel? Most likely. Do I think the game has a lot of long-term longevity? For me, not really.

And the loot & stat hunting? Just part of the action-rpg loot-based genre. Not everyone does it of course, but they're designed for that style of play/endgame as an option ... if you're not into it/don't like random co-op games, you just start new characters, try weird new builds, or get into dueling/PvP etc. If the game is designed well, I like and can get very wrapped up into item-hunting. But Borderlands just doesn't have the item set to be interesting enough to motivate me to do it, personally. In Diablo2, if I'd found a legit Zod during one of my runs (never did), I'd have fainted in shock/joy. Borderlands & finding the next dmg. stat-level of the same model orange poison pistol or whatever? Not so much. Some people really like item hunting for elusive stuff/stats tho. But it's not everyone's thing. :)

I've only ever played it solo and I love it. I was turned off of going online because, from what I've heard, the majority of online players are kids with modded weapons and shields that can corrupt your saves.

Doesn't corrupt them...it overwrites them because (last I knew) the host's game files dictate stuff, and for some reason the game replaces your .ini with their .ini settings. If you set your .ini file (or whatever it was) to read-only, that doesn't happen. eg, if they've altered their file to give them a zillion backpack slots, and you don't want that, just backup the related file or make it read only and you won't get it from them. Don't know about anything else, or if it's changed with some patch.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough right now with my lvl 40 Siren, and still enjoying it a lot.

Yeah, the ending's awful, but oh well.

The ending is pretty disappointing, but then the beginning starts again.

Yeah, I know, but after 25 hours, the first thing you want to do is not start the game all over again.

I'm going to guess he means "cel shading".

Which is one of the things I like about Borderlands - the art style.

OH YEAH! Cell shading. I like the animated/cartoony/comicky look it gives the game. Now if every game did that, I might get tired of the style. But it's a refreshing change once in a while. :)

I love them, they look a hell of a lot better then the http://www.xbox-360.co.za/userfiles/Borderlands-Has-Gone-Gold-2.jpg art style.

I should check out what's out there for the second game. Just as with Skyrim, I sorta looked here and there...but never really investigated closely like most people do... Scour every inch of the internet, scour every nook and cranny for stuff about Skyrim, or Borderlands, or anything. :) I'm such a bad fan.

Took me two minutes to find it. Read the wikipedia page and saw that it's graphics had been cell shaded, since I was curious, I google imaged "borderlands original art style" and it was on the first page.

I meant, looking at what's out on the net in regards to Borderlands 2, if anything. (Wasn't referring to the cell shaded art.) Like any press/promotional materials, etc. With Skyrim, I just assumed it'd be cool and up until recently, didn't go and really watch any of the demo footage, etc. I also didn't really look into Borderlands (1) much before getting it on the recommendation of a friend whose taste I trusted...
