Has Skyrim got any replayablity?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 6:49 am

Currently a level 27 Nord warrior. I love the game and the exploration BUT i really wouldn't want to go through the pain of levelling another character. Plus i have 100 smithing so why would i want to do it again??? Once the exploration of a region is over, it just wouldn't be the same going through the same dungeons etc etc. You'd know what to expect and for me the fun would be over. Plus the thought of picking up all that that gold/trash items all over again makes me feel ill lol.
Am just glad i picked my right class. I really wouldn't want to do re-roll and do it all over again. If you do then your a braver person than i. i salute you.

Replayability is subjective.

Personally, I feel like I could play Skyrim for forever and a day.

If you can't role play then the game is really short and gets boring really quickly.

That's why it's called RPG.

There is nothing brave about "re-rolling" a character. If you only enjoyed Skyrim to play 1 character 1 time through then that is just your preference. If someone else wants to play the game 3 different times, 3 different ways, then that is their preference. Not every gamers is the same.

I am playing a Nord warrior right now through the main quest using smithing.
Next playthrough I will be a mage and ignore smithing and the main quest and do enchanting and alchemy instead.
The third time through who knows? Maybe I will just be a hunter and stay out in the wild and ignore the cities? Maybe my goal will be to murder everyone in the dark brotherhood?

As long as we're both having fun gaming is all that matters.. no matter what game you happen to play.

Depends, if you gave your char the superhuman-vibe and maxed every skill and did every quest, maybe not. However, if you limited each chars skills and quest choices around an RP then yes, plenty of replay value.

I got 3 chars on the go, each taking only ~4-5 major skills and each doing different sorts of quests and playing in different ways.

It depends on your approach.

I have no intention of doing anything with thieves or dark brotherhood, or mages guild on my original character, and I'm imperial.

My 2nd character is mainly thieves, DB and mages guild and a stormcloak.

One sword and board, one stealth and archery

Its 2 games for the price of 1.

3rd and 4th playthroughs tend to be "fun" play throughs doing silly stuff,

5th will probably be in 3 years time when the next one is announced :)

The idea is you play as a totally different character. Played as a warrior the first time? Play as a mage the next. Or as a thief. Different play style.

For me the levelling of a new character is the part that is the most fun. Plus i enjoy having a wide variety of characters. Skyrim is so large that you can easily build a character up without even going to the same locations. have fun and experiment

Plenty for me. Get a new play style. I also started as a Nord warrior, then went with a Wood Elf stealthy archer and an Imperial mage.

Of course, if you try to do everything at all in one playthough, you may not get so much fun a 2nd time. I try to do the things that make most sense for my character. Not doing the mages guild quests with my archer and not doing the dark brotherwood quests with my goody goody warrior, for example.

Replayability, hmm.

I've got 40 hours in the game haven't even seen a dragon yet.... Regardless of replayability, I've got my money worth.

80 hours and have barely touched the main quest on my 1 character (argonian mage) I like to squeeze as much time as I can out of one playthrough, and it will literally take me months to finish

as soon as Bethesda fixes the evil 1.2 patch I will start playing again.

A lot of people seem to approach these games the same way they approach mmos. Its really the worst thing you could ever, ever do. The goals are different, the playstyle is also meant to be incredibly different, even if both including leveling.

Except for mages... mages are hard to replay IMO :P

I could as long as I role play. Otherwise, hell no. But that goes for any of the previous games as well, including FO3 and NV. It's an RPG, even if some of the choices are sometimes a bit short.

There have been a lot of solutions to how to have fun in TES games over the years, but many people don't want to follow them, so that is their problem.

Don't play the entire game with one character.
Role play (however you define it).

If you feel that leveling a new character is a pain, then that is a big problem right there.

If you did smithing at 100 with this character, just don't do it with the next. Try a different focus.

Mods and patches will open up more re-play value also. For example you can add mods that increase the effectiveness of magic, add custom spells and robes then enjoy being a powerful mage or evil necromancer.

No doubt we will also see DLC at some point or larger mods with new questlines. The players are very creative and come January there will be some great content available to spice up the game to your liking.

You could limit yourself to joining just one of the guilds with each play through.

Imperial and Stormcloak quest lines take 2 play throughs.

You can make multiple characters centred around an particular alignment. Like good, neutral and evil.

Many builds due to skill perks.

I could go on..

So yeah I'd certainly say the game has a lot of replayablity. :tes:

wow, level 27 and you rocked the smithing up all the way already? You sir are going to have an insanely easy and boring time in combat for the rest of the game.

Anyway, yes there's replayability, in the sense that you can try using a totally different build, like going stealth focused or mage focused instead of a warrior or whatever. There's plenty of quests where you can make different decisions too, some of which result in different rewards or even other quests. For example, I played on the Imperial side the first time through, which results in displacement of various Jarls and other such events. On my second playthrough (see: at least one year from now) I'll play siding with the Stormcloaks for a new perspective. That's probably the biggest one, but there's a lot of little quests where a daedric prince might ask for a sacrifice, and you can either comply or disobey. Sometimes people ask you to steal things, and you can either do so or rat them out. Often times the choices you make seem natural, so it's easy to not consider that there's another way to do it, but the beauty of this game is that there's usually a number of ways to accomplish most tasks. Even the order you do things in can change things, as I failed a quest to hunt down a Talos worshiper after a certain event involving the Stormcloaks, but the failed quest was otherwise unrelated to their scenario.

I also hit a major bug early in that never got fixed, and can't progress with the Companions story line, so for me the next playthrough should have a whole series of quests I couldn't complete before. Hopefully.

The 30 day respawn on dungeons severely cripples the replayability for me. I honestly like repetitiveness.

Other than that, don't rush the game and you're fine. Don't try to complete everything on one character, stay in your role.
If you're a murderous assassin it's not really logical that you enter a honourable Warrior guild like the companions, etc.

Sadly quests don't branch the way I expected to, atleast not the major ones, that's a bit of a pain...

For me all Elder Scrolls games have massive replayability, that is why I love this series so much. I played Oblivion every day up until about a month and a half ago so that is quite a lot of replayability.

I truly, truly don't share the same feelings towards leveling. Maybe the Elder Scrolls just aren't for you? I've never played a game with more replayability

It has "playability". The concept of "re-play" doesn't really hold water, since the game has no real end. You can play different characters... but none of your characters needs ever "finish".

As someone who has played 5-6 games of Oblivion, more than 12 of Fallout New Vegas and a couple of FO3's, I can see even more replayability with Skyrim. Even years later I was still finding new things in Oblivion and Skyrim has more of everything. There will be DLC and mods if you mod so I don't think it'll be sitting idle for very long. I work in a Portal2 here and there but it's the first-person open world for me. :)

I'm playing a pure thief/assassin build right now without any companions. WIll do the Main quest last.

I'm really looking forward to doing a mage and doing the Main quest first so I can get access to shouts much, much earlier. It'll play as a MUCH different game I believe (with differences in perks AND builds).

EDIT: I'll probably even confine my 1st character to shouts that only feel right for his rp role, probably about 50% the shouts. Same with the mage, though that's probably closer to 80% of the shouts.
