Has the UK's comedy well dried up?

I'll always remember the episode where Richie chops off his finger.

The only other decent comedy what hasn't been mentioned is Only Fools and Horses.

Black Books, A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Both worth a watch, though neither are new.

yeah pretty much, nothing like monty python or black adder either, a lot of it is either pretty poor descriptive humour like "you know when you go to the toilet......and there's no toilet paper! cue canned laughter" or it's stuff that tries to be "edgy" and "risque" except it forgot to try and be "funny" too.

i just remembered league of gentlemen, powerful english comedy at it's finest but now also getting on in years, with the exception of one or two series i haven't really seen anything to write home about in a decade, in my opinion most english humour across the board isn't currently up to the standards it used to be.

Just my opinion of course :)

Mighty Boosh? That's probably the most surreal sitcom of recent years, without a doubt. EDIT: And Psychoville, that was a good show.

Psychoville, was that the one with the League of Gentlemen people?

You know, the League of Gentlemen was actually based on my town!

Yes, it was.

Good gods, now I realised how you could turn out the way you did. Does Bacup do that to everyone?

Mighty Boosh and the I.T. crowd seem to be being mentioned a lot, will check those out, i forgot to mention Dean Learner's show was pretty good too, though pretty dark humour in some places.

i remember darkplace.loved the blond haired guys english accent (am english myself) and the ott synth music

Hehe yes, that's Matt Berry i believe, he was also in this truly remarkable and in no way tacky version of "one track lover" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1yZ8Pfnj1I

Also, marvel at his voice delivery in this scene here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjOEcoMy2fI&feature=related :D great stuff.

Robin Hood was pretty hilarious, although that may have been unintentional. :P

Is that the one with Lily Allen's dad as the sheriff (actually I thought he was nicely evil in the role) and a Robin who was more girly than Maid Marian?

Just the memory of that ludicrous episode had me very nearly spraying tea all over my screen!

Only because Only Fools is so great that it is completely without rivals. :P

I dunno, I think it's the climate that makes us. Up here on the moors. Of course, it's filmed in Bacup, but it's based on Adlington, which is near me but the part of the town where all the weird ones live. Euxton and Charnock forever!

Incidentally, in Peep Show Christmas Special, Mark's mother said they were late because they were held up in Charnock Richard by traffic, which was funny, to me, because Charnock is essentially a motorway with houses on it, and there's nowhere to be held up.

Dave Spikey off Phoenix Nights is also from the area, you see him in Tesco sometimes, as well as Zac Dingle off Emmerdale. For some reason my town exports only dry cakes and light entertainment.

One time, at school, we had a supply teacher who looked just like Tubbs. I walked in and said "Are you local?" (but not directly to her)

My friend burst out laughing.

Gods, that reminds me of the very first acting teacher we had. He seriously looked like Harvey Denton. And he even played the Frog King in a play for children during Holiday season. One might imagine how I could barely keep a straight face in his presence after this. And worse, I couldn't tell anyone because nearly nobody knew that series over in Germany where we had moved!

They need to bring back Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served? Then again, most of those people are probably 60-70, or dead.

Funny, I knew a German guy at Uni who looked just like him. Maybe they were the same person? :o

Speaking of Germany, Allo Allo was awesome. It's so easy to speak French!

Almost forgot about steptoe and son, watched a few episodes yesterday and what struck me was how much sadness there is in it, it has real pathos despite being very funny, more of a tragic comedy really.

Eddsworld, TomSka, Bing, and everyone else at CakeBomb.co.uk seems to make me lol, no matter how many times I watch the vids.

...and Harry Partridge (idk if that's how you spell his name).
