Second, buy the brush gun

Third, get an anti-material rifle

Thats all you have to do....

Are you crazy? You should never run up to a death-claw. There is a reason why they are called Death"claws." Even though you may be playing a melee character; you should never run up to one of them.

Ok i hate deathclaws, i cant kill them, help D: sooo im like a pure melee char and im using a bumper sword and whenever i try to hit em they knock me back and i cant reach them then they kill meh

I recently took out all four Deathclaw nests with my melee character, although I'll admit a little cheese was involved. With the bumper sword or super sledge the special VATS attack is called "mauler," I'm not sure if this is standard for Mauler or if its in combination with Super Slam but it's an automatic knockdown - great for deathclaws. Deathclaws usually show up in small groups so knocking down one doesn't mean it's smooth sailing but it certainly helps.

Easy way to kill them- Silenced sniper rifle, Hunting Shotgun, just takes one sniper sneak attack critical, and another few shots with the shotgun.

Meh... that's too much trouble.

I just hunker down and one-shot 'em with my hunting revolver.

As they should, it'd be like trying to box a Raptor! For those that want realism, it doesn't get much more realistic than an unfeeling super-powered monster ripping your head off in two or three swipes when you think "you know what would be a good idea? I'll go and punch this thing with my power glove!" :-)

Realism? In my New Vegas? Well by god, I must be naked to start the game then yet I seem to have these clothes on...

In actual fact, it just takes more strategy and planning to kill Deathclaws with Melee and Unarmed. I have taken out Quarry Junction with Unarmed only but it was rather flawed in how I approached it. I plan on going back there with a character that's better suited towards Melee and Unarmed. I just need to remind myself not to go Grenade Machine Gun happy when Deathclaws show up.

Fastest solution to take out a large pack of deathclaws with a melee build:

Super Slam + Super Sledge (or Rebar Club)
and a couple doses of Turbo
no VATS

The Bumper Sword, looking at the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_weapons#Bladed, svcks ass. And in my melee playthrough, it definitely seemed to do so. I couldn't find any reason to use it- if I insisted on two-handed weapons, there were plenty of stronger ones. If I didn't mind using one-handed, there were some easily found ones that out-DPSed it by insane amounts. If you want a worse weapon, seems to me you'd have to go with a rolling pin or shovel. Even a common baseball bat whoops it. :shrug:

I hated the bumper sword. It's too slow. Super Sledge is really fast when you're not using VATS.

I heard there's a glitch that if you go to the quarry by Sloan without any armor on or weapons equipped, you'll never face another deathclaw!
