I hate forcibly switching to third person.

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 4:09 pm

I was just wondering if I am the only one. I hated turning into a werewolf and being forced to 3rd person. I have a feeling vampire lord will be the same too. Am I the only one disappointed?

It's certainly annoying. Also, Bethesda seems to be better at first-person animations than third-person (and they are really, really bad at third-person animations). Why not let us be vampire lords in first-person?

It would be nice to have 1st person. But I don't mind if its not implemented. They should really consider it though.

It breaks the immersion at times though.

It's also weird when a kill-cam forces you into the first person from third.

But there should be first and third options for everything.

I think I know how you feel. I play these games only in 3rd person and I hated how Oblivion forced me to go into 1st person before I touched a barrel or sack. If I didn't, I couldn't see what color the hand was and might accidentally steal something. Because this happened all the time it became a real annoyance.

Being forced out of your preferred point-of-view, whether that point-of-view is 1st or 3rd, can seriously damage your roleplaying.

I agree. When I first went werewolf I was excited for first person claws and the movement but when I found out I had to be third person I never used it again.

Doesn't honestly matter to me. It was weird at first but I quickly got used to it.

Seems kind of petty to complain about such a small thing.

To you its small but I find it as a problem. A game-breaking problem? No, not even a little bit. I play first person to get the immersion and to feel like I am actually in the game. All of a sudden it switches to 3rd and ruins it for me. You should atleast be able to lock your preferred play style. If you are playing first person you dont do third person finishers or the like. I think Bethesda just became lazy especially with horses and first person.

While the forced 3rd person have never bothered me, I don't see a reason for it to be in the game either. As far as I am concerned it shouldn't be in the game.

I always play 1st person because I have trouble aiming and generally just moving around in third-person for some reason (I think the cross hairs are misleading and slightly off-center or something) and that goes for Fallout as well. Plus, I can't see what I'm looking at in third-person like if there are some potions or something on a shelf or table or anywhere. I need to look at it in first-person in order to see it up close.

I liked watching kill-cams in third-person though, and the game always politely places me back in first-person as soon as the kill-cam is over. Sometimes kill-cams happen in first-person, which looks kind of weird, but I'm used to it. I don't really care if my kill-cams are in first or third-person, but I prefer third-person kill-cams and first-person for everything else.

When the game forces you into third-person and doesn't immediately put you back into first-person, or worse forces you to play in third-person as with werewolf I cannot stand it.
I've never had the experience of course, but I'd imagine for a person who plays in first-person to suddenly be forced to play in third-person would be a HUGE pain in the ass.

I agree that this is a petty claim, that it doesn't really matter whether you're playing in first or third-person, but I also agree that we have been given a choice and being forced out of your preferred perspective (whether it be first or third-person) is a painful experience. I also agree that we should have an option to lock our preferred perspective. In other words I agree with you all! x3
No, but seriously though, think if we never had the choice and we all had to play in third/first-person? I know I'd hate playing in third-person because the messed up aiming would be a huge hurdle for me...not that I use bows all that much or throw spells alot either, but still, when I did do those things it would kill me. Alternatively if I were used to third-person but had to play TES in first-person I guess I'd be pretty miffed because...I can't see myself? I dunno. Why do third-person players hate first-person perspective?
Honestly, things are closer up, you can aim more easily, and there's a much deeper immersion...really its just better in every way...except I do like how pretty the whole environment looks while playing in third-person, but that's the only pro in my book....

I don't mind it nearly as much as I thought I would, but it still seems really out of place to force somthing like that in a game thats really supposed to be 1st person.

If it's not game breaking, then you don't "hate" it, and it doesn't "ruin" anything.

It's a preference, but it's not a big deal.

I did the same with the werewolf and the horse. Only ever used them once and never used them again. I have a friend who prefers 3rd person and I'll see if the vampire lord allows first person. If it doesn't, Bethesda will have lost a sale for the DLC because I'm not playing a game like Skyrim in third person.

I don't understand why people want first-person horse riding. I've never seen a game when first-person horse riding actually worked. Take M&B; first person horse riding was awful.

Whoa whoa whoa, don't tell the man what he does and doesn't think. He knows what he knows and his opinion is his own. No one else tells him what to think or what opinions he's allowed to have.
I can still hate something even if its not game breaking. For instance I hate how nightvision for vampire's sight or the Khajit racial ability only lasts 60 seconds. Its not game breaking. It doesn't ruin the power, but it does ruin its usefulness since I have to play musical powers every time the batteries for my EYES run out. However, I do dislike it and with great intensity

Then maybe you don't know the meaning of the word "hate".

I'm not telling him what to think, or what he does think. He obviously doesn't like it. And that's cool. I don't, and cannot understand why this is such a huge deal to people, and I think people who would not buy a game / DLC just because certain aspects of it are in 3rd person is a huge over-reaction. But they can still have that opinion.

But by definition, if it's not game breaking, then you don't "hate" it.

I hate the fact that the Nightingale Blade can't be improved if you got the highest level version of it. I hate that the Jeweled Pitcher isn't put in the trophy case after you do 75 jobs for the Thieves' Guild.

Neither of these are game-breaking, but I hate them nonetheless.
