I have the feeling there will only be one big DLC

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:51 pm

admitt it though, their DLC felt more like expansion packs, yes they slacked a bit but hell their dlc lasted a fair amount of playtime!

but i still agree with you, maybe they will be more encouraged to release more DLC

Some yes, though some felt like standard DLC and many of it was bugged (horse armor for instance). Im of a mind that the DLC we see will be akin to the DLC of games like Mass Effect, where it adds in an entire new mode of play and somewhere new to do it in. Pretty much like Shivering Isles.

People have to remember that Bethesda were heavily criticised with Oblivion and Fallout 3, in that they slacked on patching and released DLC to the titles that increased the number of problems. It looks like this time around they are at least attempting to resolve most of the outstanding problems before DLC is released. Which is a good thing.

Lionhead Studios were worse. Fable 3 seemed to end too sharply, the regions and side quests seemed mush less compared to Fable 2 and the game had many bugs which lead people to think it was rushed out to retail towards the end.
Lionhead charge a lot for their games and received a lot of critisim for not sort all the bugs out. But to make it much worse is they didn't even try and give the fans a decent sized dlc. Instead they went beyond insult and tried selling the fans little massively over-priced gimmick dlc (a different outfit, a different dog breed, etc - the type of thing they should have thrown in for free to gain loyalty and support)

By the time "The traitors Keep" dlc arrived which was the first real decent dlc and could have save some of the games reputation it was too late. They could have turned that game with a few good sized dlc adding more regions and more quests. The fans into the lore side of Fable were asking to see the regions from previous Fable games return in dlc which again they didn't act upon.

That's because Peter Molyneux is an idiot. My niece could design a better game than him.

I think he knows his stuff. I think the real problem was was Microsoft putting the pressure on the team to make them great amounts of money as opposed to given them the time, support and freedom to produce - hence the high pricing, it was rushed out. The silly over priced dlc etc.

Fable Journey I think is him trying to redeem his team with the lost Fable fans. We will see

The MMO is being made by Zenimax Online Studios. And since it is a different company, and therefor a different staff, there is no reason it should interfere with what Bethesda Game Studios is doing.
That may be true, but I see it as more an experiment that if all goes well, and the TES MMO is successful, then TES in the future will no longer be single player....and I'll have to find a different series to keep me occupied.

I sure hope I'm wrong on this, but I see no reason why Zenimax would be doing this, other than as a testing ground to see if they could do it successfully.

EDIT: forgot to mention that there will likely be more than one dlc to come. More likely two to three of them. Don't forget that people are still playing Morrowind today even, Oblivion as well. Skyrim is not past it's prime yet...not by a longshot.

You do realize, don't you, that the MMO is not being made by the same company?

Just to add, i only found out about the MMO recently and was ready to blast nuclear missiles on the forum till i read about 15 minutes later that "blahblahblah not developed by bethesda"

Imagine my wootness. I was so afraid they would go total MMO for the profit (?) and ignore TES 6 or something.

Weren't they supposed to be releasing mini DLCs every month?

If they did that the DLCs might be something along the lines of horse armor.

I'm going with two DLC/expansions, of Bloodmoon, Tribunal or Shivering Isles proportions.

No, they were not. I dont know were you got that idea from. I believe Todd said prior to launch DLC was a way off and that they would be bigger and less of them.

I think I know where he got that idea. I do believe something was said about releasing stuff in between the DLCs. Not so much mini-DLCs, but little improvements. And we are getting those. Patch 1.5 came with a few and the Xbox got Kinect support. It'll be nice if they continue to toss little improvements like those in each patch. It'll help the game get better and better in more ways than just... less buggy.

I believe the HRTC was considered a dlc, but that was for pc. I believe that XBOX got Kinect support. We were also given post release, new kill moves that IIRC were from the Game jam video. In short, we were told there would be smaller additions post release, and we have seen them do just that...whether or not they are all considered to be dlc, may be another matter.

They have said there are gojng to make more, but how big these will be can be speculated. IIRC they said they would be bigger then the KotN though, but I may be mistaken.

That was it. He also said not as many as Fallout, but more than Oblivion(I think) so I guess we can look forward to 3-4 DLCs. Apparently they only counted KotN and SI for OB.

dont worry about it, bethesda take time with their work, look at shivering isles.
i admire how time is taken to polish their game remember how todd howard described how they play tested skyrim.

i can't stand impatiant fans. i go on the GTA 5 trailer on youtube and come across so many people saying "rockstar you fail, you're taking too long to release games, step it up to CoD's pace and be proffesional!" and "wow rockstar stop taking so long god you guys are stupid!"

Haha seriously? Those self same fans would be first in line to moan about a shonky product if rockstar rushed it. But no fear there, they will take as much time as they please, and rightly so. I'm taking a guess that GTA5 will land near to Christmas time at the absolute earliest.

And I hope Todd Howard sticks to his guns about the substantial size of the DLCs. Just so long as the quality matches the quantity :)

As for molyneux - great mind, awful motormouth. Hypes his games far too much. Fable has many positives, but lionhead should take their time to iron out the bugs and expand the scope if they want it to live up to expectations.

No.

It's already been stated in this thread but I'll reiterate- before the game even released, Todd said that there would be bigger expansion content, but less of it. I'm ok with that.
