I'm Heading to PAX...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:33 am

Next week is PAX in beautiful, rainy Seattle, and I will be in attendance. So will Bethesda. And since I will have hands on time with the game, I decided to make it productive and ask you guys what you want me to look for. Want me to list different ammo types? I can do that. Tell you whether or not the Thompson is in the game? Possibly. Find House? That may take a little more time then I have, but nonetheless, I will be playing and I'll have in mind ideas thrown around in this thread and attempt to answer them after I have time to play.

Discuss.

See if you can hire more than one companion at a time.

Well you can only have one humanoid companion at a time but I'll look for glitches.

I know that was the case for Fallout 3, but where have they confirmed this for New Vegas?

Well when Ausir was trying to go out of Freeside into the wasteland a bethesda employee came over and said that that part isn't quite ready yet.
So you will probably have some restrictions.
Just thought I'd give ya a heads up.

Some of those things like finding Marcus may be difficult to do in a demo. Not only does the wasteland have no level scaling when you explore, but Bethesda cracked down on Ausir when he wanted to leave Freeside and hunt for info.

yea your gonna have restrictions in the demo so just try and get as much juicy info as you can, . so just list all the weapons you see, perks, NPCs, loot , look at the map and see how big it is compared to fallout 3 , and see how the ADS aim down sights are, tell us is its clunky, or if its smooth more like call of duty, (not saying i want the game to be cod just putting that out there) also if you make it do freeside the leader of a gang called the kings he has a pet dog, with its brain in a jar on its head, and apparently you can have the dog as a follower. also try and list the traits if the demo starts at the start of the game, and just to let you know there is no way your gonna make it into the vegas strip so i wouldnt even try. and i wouldnt waste time gambling as that in all the previews that we have saw they all have something about gambling, so just try and find stuff that all the previews didnt have in them. just look for the stuff i listed above, and other thing that i cant think of right now. because all those previews were the same, almost.

I want you to find out if there's a gun that will one-hit an unarmored human fairly reliably. Also, I want to know if the radio is nice to listen to. I don't want details like DJ, commercials, song list, etc, I just want to know if the stations are nice.

What I mean by 'nice' is the DJ makes it enjoyable to have the radio on, the commercials fit and are funny, things like that.

Glitches like that arent all that easy to find. I really doubt youll find them in that space of time.

Describe the map on the pipboy to us. See where the river runs and ends, where you think hooverdam might be, where in the mojave is Vegas, try to see any indentation in the map to see if there will be a decent mountainous region aka colorado mountains (I'm guessing this is where Marcus is)

Hey, how nice of you. :goodjob:
Try to see how large Vegas itself is if you can. Does it consist of more than just Freeside and the Strip? Does it include shady back alleys and slimy districts?
Also, it'd be awesome if you could find out how large the recoil on guns is, and if there is any. Lately it's looked a bit worrying, as if there is no recoil on weapons at all, apart from the Anti-Material Rifle.
Thanks heaps, dude.

just try to get as many details as you can about the items in your inventory because im sure that most of the demos allow you to have all the weapons so id like to here about that and about armor as well.

I want to have more than one human companion, dammit! I want my own little squad! Power should come in quantity, not quality. I don't want one single super companion to do everything for me, I want one badass and two whimps in my team (for RP'ing purposes, and I'd love if the badass is constantly nagging on one of the whimps)

Test the extreme limit of how far you can zoom out from the PC. One of my favorite aspects of Fallout, 1, 2, and even 3 was the option to enjoy a wide (almost cinematic) view of the PC making their way across the desolate wastelands.
(It will be a real personal downer if the designers took it upon themselves to restrict the view to FPP or just over the shoulder).

Colorado Mountains? Unless this game involves crossing the entire state of Utah that just won't happen. There are some ski resorts in the NV area I think, so it's probably one of those.

But anyway, I concur with observing the map. I am just curious to know whether it is a perfect square like Fallout 3's, and how big it is in general. If you could get a cell phone picture of the map, I would be amazed.

Tell you whether or not the Thompson is in the game? Possibly. Find House? That may take a little more time then I have, but nonetheless, I will be carrying a checklist of ideas thrown around in this thread and attempt to answer them when I get my turn to play.

Here is my checklist (I will edit in ideas):

List ammo types I come across
Find Marcus
List loot drops from animals
Identify perks in the game (if I happen to level up)
See if its possible to have 2 human companions at a time.
and more...

At PAX, folks will probably have around 20 minutes to play the game from the point we start you at. It's going to be pretty tough and/or impossible to get to some of the stuff you mentioned. That being said, you'll be able to see quite a bit. :)

See you there!

Shweet! You could be the first guy to actually confirm useful information. Most other previews involve nearly the exact same information as all the the others. It's almost like they're trying to limit the information that gets out by putting out fluff. You're a good person for doing this for everyone. BTW, don't spend to much time in the menus and inventory because for some reason it seems to concern the people that supervise the demos.

I think it may have something to do with now every companion you do a loyalty quest for gives you a perk, So they may possibly be trying to make people not over-powered by having a bunch of companions with you and getting a bunch of perks?

All I know is I feel your pain, I wish I could have a squad of armed gun men to take down the Caesar's Legion. :tops:

I suggest you have fun and Don't take in a big list. As Gstaff mentioned, you will only have 20 minutes and that will go alot faster than you think.

I recommend keeping your list to no more than 5 things to look for in specific, and nothing that makes you travel too far apart. Otherwise your going to run out of time!

Have fun!!!

How come in the latest round of previews all of the gaming journalists didn't have a problem going and doing whatever they wanted to?
