Health vs. Stamina

If Mana is not an issue, either because you don't use a lot of magic or none at all, then a good rule of thumb is to put 2 Levels into Health for each one you put into Stamina. Stamina is important in fights, but Health is even more so for survival.

Yeah, that's exactly what i do on my Nord Warrior. Every third level goes into Stamina, while the rest go into Health. Seems a really good balance. He still has 100 Magicka though. Magicka dumping with the novice "Healing" spell (The most mana efficient healing spell) will only restore about 20-25% of his health, which is why i plan on eventually getting the Novice Restoration, Regeneration and Respite perks in the Restoration tree, along with Sailor's Repose. He rarely needs to heal though, considering he has 100 Block, 100 Heavy Armor, 100 Smithing and full Dragonplate Armor (Legendary) with Spellbreaker. Between the Armor Cap and Spellbreaker negating most spells, he can tank a whole room of monsters like a boss.

The only issue with using that restoration stamina heal perk is that if you run out of stamina, you are generally in a fight where it can be difficult to cast the spell without getting hammered on...one possible solution is to use quick menu to cast it with your non-shield hand for one-handed users, but even so that breaks the flow of the fight....no different to chugging a non-hotkeyed potion though, I guess.

One thing I've found though is that dual casting heal, with all applicable perks, will often keep you alive even if a draugr overlord is swinging away at you. You can run full speed while casting, so as long as you start to heal before its too late, you should be able to survive the one or two strikes before you can get away. And if you're using a companion, running past them will sometimes let you shed your pursuers.

I've been using Grand Healing with the restoration stamina perk, it's a real game changer in a fight.
