False, "Aelaeandi" means "Attractive" not "Winning", winning could be "Sigrandi" or "Vinnandi".

"He is winning the competition" - "Hann er ae vinna keppnina" or "Hann er ae sigra keppnina" both can be used here. However in no way can "winning" be translated as "Aelaeandi" which means attractive.

"The woman was attractive" - "Konan var aelaeandi"

However the word "vinna" can be used both for "win" and "work".

Example for used as "work": "He was working for Bethesda" - "Hann var ae vinna fyrir bethesda"

So it may be better to go for "sigra" or rather "Sigrandi"

So ultimately if he went for the word "Winning" in Icelandic it should be "Sigrandi".

I used Google translate... Damn you Google!

Yeah I just checked it now too and it says "Aelaeandi" for me too. Google translate is however simply wrong :P And it can be wrong a lot, once read through a job application from someone who had just written the application in Polish and then used google translate to turn it into Icelandic and it turned out to be pretty incomprehensible, would never have guessed it to be a job application if I hadn't known it beforehand that it was a job application.

 I thought you meant "whining"... I was like, WTF?!?! Now I get it. It's good that you look for germanic/slavonic (or else) words. Latin words sound lame for this. Don't get me wrong, I love French (mother tongue), but "gagnant" doesn't sound good, it's ugly even for us. Yeah, nyero is nice.

Edit: I see you put portugese and Catalan in there... my bad. As long as the root is not the same as "gagner", it's fine.

Hahaha yeah I would think someone was crazy if they wanted whining as a username

Nyer? is an adjective in hungarian (and even then it is not used in relation with persons ), if you wanted to express winner, you would say nyertes or gy?ztes.

For reference, the Finnish word would be: "Voitto" (Victory) "Voittaa" (to win) or "Voittoisa" (Victorious)

Other than the necessary plug in the name of nationalism, I vote for Vencedor.
