You could try equipping a follower with a bow, but melee warriors don't have many options for dragon-slaying.

I just bash them with my trusty Wuuthrad axe  When you're good enough it's actually a piece of cake. I slay them with about 5 hits. Of course yo uneed to wait for them to come down on the ground, I usually fire a few arrows to start with, after some time, they come down and then I just run up to them and swing away.

That is good when they aren't flying in the air

@OP: Dragons perodically land every so often. So you'll have to wait.

You just have to be patient and wait for them to land, then power attack. I have no problem killing dragons on Master with a two-handed Nord.

With my warrior I hide behind a rock or a tree for cover form aerial attacks then wait for it to land.

If you purposely do not wish to use the tools provided to make your life easier (destruction, archery, dragonrend) and insist on doing it the hard way...

1. Get as much magic, fire and frost resist as possible via potions or equipment.
2. Lure dragon to wide open space.
3. Tank his breath attacks like a dummy (ethereal shout helps) until he decides to land.
4. ???
5. Profit. Or dead Dovahkiin if you didn't do step one properly.

They will land sooner or later. Sooner if you hang around in wide open spaces.

Dodge their breath when they're in the air, then when they land run up and hit them. Just be careful, their tail can do as much damage as their teeth.

My Khajiit monk has punched three dragons to death that way.

Just sword and shield them, especially good if you have aquired the spellbreaker.
Then you can keep them on the ground a little longer with bashing them and the shield holds back plenty of their breath attacks.
Be carefull if you are down to under a quarter health as they sometimes perform a finishing move on you and can tear you in half, quite epic the first time you witness it. Also beware of the tail end as they can flatten you in one hit as well.

At least do the MQ as far as unlocking your ability to use more shouts though, but dragon souls are still stored anyway so have no fear of missing out on using them later if you do decide not to the MQ that far on.

go to a wide open area where a dragon can land, apparently dragons are like planes, they just fly in the air until they can find a good landing spot, always worked for me, also if you're in a village, get away from there, otherwise they will just go on top of the houses.

Killing them is no problem. Unfortunately for a pure melee character, arrows and lightning bolt are the best ways of attracting their attention. Don't want to use a bow, you will just have to watch a few of them fly off over the horizon, I'm afraid.

get into a wide area where they land, then sprint (or just run) over to them and do your powerattack smash. I was dual wielding then, so it was easier; dunno about using one weapon though.

Get frustrated waiting for him to land while he flies around killing all surrounding Mudcrabs
Get frustrated that it landed 30metres away
Get frustrated that you have to Hoof it to him
Get frustrated you only got one power attack in before it took off

Rinse and repeat

I think you're just bad at using and maintaining Dragonrend. In fact, in 4/5 fights I only have to shout once.

I've just finished playing a pure melee as well, it was a fun challenge. I made sure I kept within the dragons range and most times they landed. I only had to watch a couple of dragons get bored and fly away.

The cool-down is less than their pinned time so there isnt much to it. On my melee char however, Im not progressing past a certain quest because I dont want to do several certain quests that follow it, so I dont have access to the rend.

Therefore, I have to twiddle my thumbs and wait whilst the dragon tries to commit Mudcrab genocide before I'm considered a valid threat.

Is there anyway i can take the dragons to court over the genocide of mudcrabs , like a Hague style place :P?
