As well as your Speech skill, from selling all the crap you enchanted, which will also make you money since prices will improve. Adding perks to Speech will improve returns even further, but most folks don't bother as it isn't really necessary.

If you loot everything you can get your hands on gold becomes a non-issue. 4 houses and 100k gold in my pocket. Would be more but the merchants never have enough gold to buy all the wooden buckets I bring back.

Well, another tip to save lots of money and this is actually legit is this. Level pick pocketing high enough and then every time you train a skill with a trainer just steal your money back. Only works up to a point though because there's a limit of how much gold you can successfully steal from a person without being caught. Or so it seems anyway.

I do that all the time. It's a great way to get your money back and level up your Pickpocket!

I won't use a cheat but I'm going to have a real challenge in buying a house with a pacifist character I'm planning. I'm wondering if it will even be possible. The goal is zero kills and so many quests want you to kill something. I'll give it a shot though and if I can't find a way, I'll get a mod. :D

Is that even possible? :\ ...so many NPCs you have to kill to get the quest items. :o Plus, I'm just assuming that at some point we'll have to kill Ulfric regardless of what side we choose. :P There can be only one! XD

And FWIW: the house thing is an exploit...not really a cheat. Just tell yourself: "Bethesda made it possible and I just don't want their work to be for naught." XD
