I don't think it is really feasible. Dying mechanics usually require the armor textures to be designed in a way that specifically allows for that kind of modification.

You can't dye armor (The metal), but you can paint it. ^_^

Soo... Armor dying like in Fable 3 ? Or:
- Manually picking ingredients
- Making dyes
- Appling on armour parts.

This is what is needed

Being able to combine more armor pieces without it looking weird would be nice.

I... do have to agree to a point. Skyrim does have a decent amount of armor of armor styles, but it would have been nice to see some more, or some differences.

Like for the Ebony Mail, why not have a hood option, the hood made of chainmail or leather? It would make some sense, since it would help you hide in shadows. The option could have you take it on or off.

But that is just nip-picking. I'm sure in Dawnguard, they will have more armor choices.

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 handled armor dying pretty well, maybe a system similar to theirs (except you can make your own dyes)

I actually like the way it was done in Dragon Age Origins, where there was a type and a material. This gave you the option to really customize the charachter more. Really in Skyrim they do some of this as guards will point out, the curved swords from Hammerfel. So why not change smithing around a bit to be based on weapon types, not on material. Make sowrd types like sabres, skimitars, longs swords, short swords, daggers. Different types of Axes, hammers, maces, etc.... then we pick the materials we use to make them. The same could be done for armor, scale, plate, leater, chainmail, etc... then pick the material. Change the smithing perks to light armor, heavy armor, advanced light, advanced heavy. Then do something similar with the weapons, maybe borrow from the skills in Oblivion, so we have bladed weapons, blunt weapons, advanced bladed weapons, and advanced blunt weapons. Then do similar categories for shields, shields and advanced shields, that gives us 10 perks to make various different types of armours and weapons, where we choose the materials used, would it not be cool to make fur armor out of bear pelts, vs making it out of goat pelts to provide different looks, or Ebony Chainmail, or an Elven Katana?Add in the arcane smithing again, and that is 11 perks so that would be about right. I just think Dragon Age did a great job with it and it would be cool to add something like this to Skyrim to make charachters more unique, plus with Elder Scrolls online comming soon, this would be a nice touch too.

I play in first person. Dying my armor is pointless, as no one will see it, including myself.

Though, I have to admit, I did do it in Assassin's Creed, because earth tones are awesome. You know, like the Leather armor. :D

I think this is kinda stupid, armor dying would look ridiculous and bad, armor should remain the way it is since you know, it fits the theme of the game and doesn't look silly.

Done right it wouldn't look silly. Normally it doesn't actually color the whole piece, just some of the trim. That would be nice...

PC players have mods for these....and you Console Guys??? XD

Not trying to start a war, just saying the truth.

I'd want BRAND-NEW CONTENT instead of this. I like Skyrim, as it is.

The armor variety in Skyrim is pathetic when compared to other modern actions RPGs. A good idea to make up for it would be to allow us to dye our armors/robes/clothes just like some other games (Diablo, Assassin's Creed etc).It Would really expand armor combining since for example you could match dwarven/elven with orcish/steel plate. Don't think it would be that difficult to add via a free update or at least in the next expansion...

How do you dye a metal armor? (With that times "technology")

assuming your on the PC the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1377865-relwip-armoury-of-tamriel-thread-14-v1-released-working-on-armor/ is aiming to do just that, all weapon styles in all materials, they are also working on the armors the only problem with the mod is if you are a compulsive hoarder like me there isn't a house in game or a mod with enough weapon racks to house them all on display lol.

i would have thought it would just remove the armor you are changing the color of and give you a new armor with the new color, thats just a guess tho people with a better knowledge of the CS might have an easier way like swapping textures but i wouldn't know how to do that

I think dying leather armor and clothes would make sence, but for metal armors, how about just be able to pic any metal you want to smith them.
Example, make Steel Plate Armor with ebony ingot to make them black, or make Ebony Armor with quick silver to make them silver. If they do it this way then they can add this ability in smithing skill tree, or make some new quest to obtain this ability from some one like Euroland.

I personally prefer this method to dying armor/weapons (and not just because I'm the armor texture artist for that exact mod )
Dying armor can look pretty ridiculous, and it doesn't have any effect on game balance. no matter the color, steel plate is still better than iron.
I would rather have the different armor styles in every material, since that opens up WAY more options than armor dyes do

Great work right there, kudos to the mod devs. I would certainly download it if I was on PC. Hope Bethesda would show some love for us console players and release an addon with extra weapons and armor
