I hope this game has a construction set

I hope this game has a construction set so the community can add on to the game. The community has made and keeps on making amazing mods for Fallout 3, it would be ashame if we couldn't do the same for Fallout: New Vegas.

It will, as it uses the same engine as FO3, it's just a matter of whether the people making NV will give it to us.

I hope as well.

The construction set is the reason I buy Beth's RPGs now. :)

No CS, no game. :P

Of course it will have a construction set. Bethesda already knows how much people like to mod.

The game was made with the GECK. You'll be able to mod it out of the box.

Yeah I look forward to this - hopefully it will be very much like the Fallout3 Master.esm, but we'll have to wait and see. There's always a chance they won't allow us to mod it, but I'm keeping my hopes up. :)

I really hope a CS is available. I had so many mod ideas or partially done mods for FO3 that never got completed, but they would fit right into New Vegas. My most popular WIP (Apocalypse Club) was designed to make Fallout 3 have more of a New Reno/Vegas feel anyway, so it would work very well I think.

Well... Obsidian games usually come with a "Contruction Set" I mean a editor to mod the game. If they dont add a CS the game will be lame in 2 months.

Definitely Agree - at the very least the NV release will spur a ton of interest in Fallout modding again on the GECK-Fo3 engine. To me it would be a Wonderful gift, as Fallout3 modding does not seem to have the longevity or popularity that the Elder Scrolls games seem to have achieved, and this will be a huge boost that may bring things back on-par between them. For those of us working on big Fo3 projects, the influx of new interest and (hopefully) new modder resources to use will really be nice.

And if NV turns out to be a block-buster like Fo3 was, things could get very rosy indeed for those of us modding Fo3!

@Silvade, they are using the GECK (we think its the same version but don't know), and as such are very hopeful that all they have to release is an update to the GECK to incorporate any changes Obsidian wanted added, the master files and the NV-version of the Fo3 engine. With luck, this could be one of the smoothest modding transitions from game to game yet achieved.

I have no specific information but there has to be a CS or that you can use the existing GECK to mod it. Why? A Moddable Game is like Bethesda Canon. Mods are a big reason why Morrowind is still popular today (of course being a great game is the other reason) and why Oblivion is still as popular too. So, this game just has to be moddable.

Well, it better be moddable is all I am saying... :stare:

Not necessarily. I'd imagine that Bethesda has updated the GECK/Construction Set since it was released to the public. I mean, Shivering Isle (Oblivion's expansion) required a new Construction Set.

That would be interesting... I hope so!

Actually I would find it hard to believe that they Wouldn't need to update the GECK and Engine for specific NV things, even if to add inherent support for NV itself. Certainly there will be a GECK update, but do We the people get our greedy-maws on it - that is the question. :)

GAH, I will be getting this on the 360, so I guess I don't have to worry about mods eh? I guess I will be looking forward to the DLC, if there will be any, to add spice to NV once done. Then again I havn't done Fallout 3 yet either, but for a change of pace should say. That is what the DLC did for Fallout 3, it gave it a different set of pace so the game dosn't become stale.

I absolutely agree, the mod community does so much fantastic work for us and I've enjoyed modding Fallout 3 myself so much. I always regretted not being able to get back into it for F3, but with NV I will definately get back into the mod scene if it's possible. Mods just add so much to the already great games.

Seriously, Bethesda's Mod support + Obisidians amazing writing = one of the best games of all time.

I too hope that New Vegas will be moddable out of the box !! I will definitely put my current FO3 Companion to NV before i even start it for the first time :P
If Obsidian didnt change too much, i could imagine most mods getting ported very quickly :D

I am not sure how you could solve the problem with the master files though...every mod needs the fallout3.esm...the new one is obviously called different..what can be done about this ?

+1!

And to think that they used the GECK and Fo3 engine... it gives me hope that they won't change things too much, that it really will be fairly close to the GECK we have now with perhaps an upgrade to add some new things, but keeping our existing mod-work compatible (or close to it) - would be AWESOME.

Just think of how fast we will be able to start putting out mods if the baseline engine and GECK are the same as the one we have been studying and working with for the last year! It will reduce the ramp-up time we need to learn the engine to almost nothing as compared to the leap we had to make from Oblivions's CS to the GECK - and it will make our mods better because we're already familiar with the layouts.

Man I hope they do something close to this! :dancing:

From what I understand from JE Sawyer's post in another thread, it's a sort of Shivering Isles level of difference - i.e. yes, it has new assets but it's still the same engine etc with very little under the hood being modified. If it's not moddable out of the box, it would only require a minor update to make it so. We're really only in unfamiliar territory because it's a standalone game, from a separate developer, rather than an expansion like SI or Bloodmoon - but AFAIK the processes are largely the same i.e. they take the GECK and make what is effectively a total conversion. As I understand it, though - as with the Oblivion and Morrowind expansions - if they were missing a hardcoded feature they needed, they could have that added to the GECK as required.
