Horses in Skyrim are so useless

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:13 pm

1. Gallops like snail on turtle, runs out of breath often
2. Not as fast as I am
3. Dies after a fall of a meter or two, despite being supposedly 'hardy'
4. Doesn't put up much for a fight
5. Waste of 1000 coins
6. A cheese wheel heals more than horses and it costs only 10 coins.

To be continued...

1.Get Shadowmere?
2.I find horses fast and good to climb cliffs.
3.Shadowmere is more resistant.Or just get the Headless Horseman horse.
4.Again..Shadowmere...
5.1000 coins is cheap.I got a horse for 500 in Windhelm.
6.Only for big cities.....

Horse could have been done a LOT better...... Once the CK is out, I expect a lot of my issues with horses will be addressed.

I skipped horses as soon as I found they force you into 3rd person. even in Oblivion you could ride in 1st person view. I even went to the vendor to get my 1000 gold back which I couldn`t.

That`s besides the rest of the crappiness.

And they looked so good too at first, just like the good `ole Shire horses in my county in England.... :(

Oh yea and he says you can name your horse, but you can`t! Way to screw up horses, Bethesda.

oops, edit, I meant 3rd person.

As a means of transport in the game, they are terrible to be frank. Its much much easier to simply run to a location on foot. The player character is extremely fast while sprinting and once you level up stamina you can run for miles at a time without slowing down.

Personally I would increase the base movement speed, stamina and health of a horse. A would also boost the sprint speed and make it so that horses are swift as they should be. However I would severly nerf the AI so that horses cant tank as they do now.

I got the horse called "Frost" or something and used it for a while untill it assaulted a castle on it's own and died. I never got a new horse. Waste of time. I haven't found anything with the name shadowmere. Is that a better horse (that cannot die?)?

IMO a horse should not draw agro or be able to attack anything. If anything it should run off and return when it's safe. It should also be faster, you should be able to have one for followers and you should be able to attack while riding it.

He can die if he falls off a cliff...But agaisn't enimies he is badass. The best horse in the game is the Headless Horseman horse:
-Infinite Stamina
-Infinite Health
-Deals more damage than Shadowmere.

That would be ok, as long as the horse's movement speed isn't so fast that your exterior cells can't be loaded fast enough.

That's what's causing me to hesitate on creating/downloading any mod that alters the horse's movement speed.

Shadowmere is found in
Spoiler
The Dark Brotherhood Quest.
, I haven't seen a Frost. I had hope in a dog companion.and he died almost as easily as I.got him, and you can't seem.to find more but the couple in the game.

I only ride Shadowmere, he fights and doesn't die as soon as he starts fighting. The only time he has died with me was when I fell coming down a mountain, but I related to an earlier save. In general I wouldnt use any of the other horses you can get from stables...they are kind of useless. It would be nice to fight on horseback too, that would make me a bit happier.

Oh yea and they`re a totally nightmare to control as well, especially if you`re not used to 3rd person.

It's not so much the horse, it's the fact that combat is limited to your feet being on ground (infantry). I think horses would be a lot more useful, if you could fight on horse back (cavalry).

Different people, different tastes.

I actually make a lot of use of my horse. I park it outside of a dungeon so when I leave I can ride back home with all my loot. Horses aren't affected by your encumbrance which makes them handy.

What? Why would you bother. You don't like horses in Skyrim, we get it. I personally find Shadowmere to be an indispensable part of my Skyrim experience.

Rumors of his quest.Says:
"The only way to talk with him,is by tricking him"if you use a potion to become a Ghost for some seconds,he will think that you are one, and then he will talk to you(since some ghosts in skyrim doesn't like mortals)."
i'm sure that his quest is hidden somewhere.Since there's an "option" to talk. While the option to "talk" with giants was removed from the game.
