Hottest Horse in Skyrim

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:27 pm

Sorry for the thread title. I couldn't resist.

I like the dark brown Whiterun Horse ("Queen Alfsigr"). I know she's nothing special, but it's a classic look.

The Palomino-looking ones are fine as hell, but I had to go with the Pinto-looking one so I could more easily see it from a distance in snow and non-snow climate areas.

I kind of have this white one with spots. By kind of I mean I did't buy it but I didn't steal it either. I just found it in the wilderness and the message said ride horse. So I did. Now it shows up every time I fast travel. When I get off, it just walks away....

I'm.... not thrilled with the plowhorse look at all. Not that it matters, since I can't be arsed to use the damn things anyway.

[And Korr.... LOL!!! at thread title - I needed the laugh!]

Yah.... had that happen too.... I finally resorted to console to MarkForDelete it. Annoying.... I won't even touch them any more period.

Just wait, we'll get a Redguard game and you'll get more graceful horses.

It won't matter unless they fix the AI.

Try rationalizing it this way: if Bethesda adds barding to the game we'd need to have draft horses for them to be able to wear it? Plus, if we're wearing heavy armor we'd need draft horses even if they weren't wearing barding, right? :D

Oh.... BE logical why don't you! PHTBBBT. I refer you to the ancestors of the Lippizans (current Spanish Riding School....) THEY weren't plowhorse types....

I don't know a lot about horses, but I've seen those Spanish riders. Awesome stuff. If only any game had movements like that.

Yep. I would even put up with a crap AI to have Lippizans. I MISS my horses, even though we're definitely too old to deal with that sort of stuff any more (digging arthritic old horses out of 4-foot snowbanks in the winter is NOT fun.... AT ALL....) I'd love to have them in this game, but the AI svcks, and the "plowhorse" look does as well.

Not at all. A full-grown (10 years or so) stallion is about the same size as a normal quarterhorse. Maybe a bit taller, hand-wise. Lippizans are compact and muscular - they are NOT plowhorse size.

Ah...taller. FWIW: I knew they weren't 'thick' like draft horses.

Well, of course "taller" as regards q'horses is - um - variable.... My horse was q'horse with a tiny bit of thoroughbred 4 generations previous. HE was 16.5 hands, and short backed - missing about 4 vertebra that "normal" q'horses have. Most people around here who have registered q'horses have horses in the 14.5 - 15 hand range, and were a bit shocked to find out that my paint was not only registered with the Q'horse Assn but the Paint Assn as well. I got told regularly that he was "too tall". (Well, he was in a way.... I literally had to put him in the ditch out front in order to get on him - my back and legs are just not very flexible after 65 years of life....) But there's no height restrictions on registration....

Oh.... btw.... I regularly hauled half an elk out of the backcountry on my horse. Half an elk is like half a horse - 600 pounds. So - nope. You do NOT need the plowhorse look to mount a plate-wearing toon. Of course.... this is a game, not reality any way....

I love love love the horses in Skyrim, especially Allie. It's cute that my character has a horse with the same name.

I assume Maverique is still working for Bethesda and making horses? I know she owns horses and puts a lot of love into them, and these are the most realistic game horses I've seen. Wish I had a picture of my mom's mudpuppy to post here, because my mom's horse is Queen Alfsigr in the flesh - she's half-Shire and half-Friesian, used mostly for driving but also for low-level dressage. I say mudpuppy because those feathered feet attract mud like nobody's business.

Given oblivion's horse armour is the trope namer for ill conceived, overpriced DLC, do you really think bethesda will release such a thing for Skyrim?

Bethesda: "Horse armour for skyrim!"
Players: "Wait, real horse armour, or you mean an overpriced DLC?"
Bethesda: "Both!"

Shadowmere. When your ebony plate effect kicks in and cloak the whole horse in darkness it looks like something straight out of Sleepy Hollow. I'd be staining my draws if I were a forsworn or bandit and saw something like that bearing down a hill at me.

QHs are amazingly versatile, it's a shame that the trend recently is towards beefy peanut rollers, long as a bus, with genetic disorders. Back in the 80's I used to event on a QH who was 16.2. 16.5 is a typo I assume? Since it only goes to 4 and that would be 17.1?

Still, really not what I would want to joust on.

That's me doing 16 and a half hands as 16.5.... Shorthand notation can trip you up, y'know?! So yup., 16.2 actual hands. And yeah, I fully agree with you on the crap that goes on with eventing and such now. It hurts me to even look at some of them....

The whiteish ones from Solitude are nice. But yeah, Shadowmere is the best in my opinion.
