Well, I finished it, and the only DLC's it was better was Broken Steel and Mothership Zeta.
The rest of the DLC's were all far more superior than Honest Hearts.
Exploration - It's interesting, coherent, good stuff for survival characters, but it was really not rewarding at all, and those [censored] .45 ammo, for [censored]s sake Obsidian, I know you're in love with your new toy but could you chill it down just a LITTLE BIT with the .45 loot rate? In some ammo boxes I even got .45 casings, CASINGS! Gah.
So exploration is interesting but largely unrewarding.
Characters - The first 3 characters felt far more interesting than anyone in the tribes did, Daniel, boring as hell, not one bit interesting, Graham, wow... He is a good guy with extreme methods, oh that's original, hell, his Chaotic Evil from Van Buren was far more interesting and one hell of a lot more original than the piece of crap Graham we got in HH, the named Sorrows tribals were interesting at first but their accent got tiring real quick. I did like Follow Chalks a lot though, too bad we, yet again, could not be given one new companion to bring back. (My vote would have been on Follow Chalks)
Story - When I first entered i pictured that the story was gonna be interesting with lots of interaction between these characters (Happy Trails) and the one's in Zion (Sorrows and Dead Horses), but when I entered it was like they scrapped the original plan last minute and hastily put in the other quests which were mostly just fetch quests, hell, one quest, "Stairway somethingsomething" was 1 Enter cave, 2 Open door, 3 Take map, done. So the main story was very unsatisfying especially with Graham, I really thought there was gonna be something greater with him, something dark, the bigger picture. *sigh*
Weapons - None of the new weapons really seem to be anything special from what we already got in NV and DM.
Perks - utterly disappointing, 6 perks and 3 of which are just +damage. Do we REALLY need anymore +%dam perks Obsidian? I thought we we're gonna be powerful enough what with the lvl 40 cap and all.
Difficulty - The White Legs were brutal, and I liked that, but the rest of Zion was pathetic really, sure enough it's very realistic and feels sort of right but still, it's a game, and I want a challenge, Zion did not give me any form of challenge what so ever outside of the White Legs, the wildlife were low-level to low-mid-level to mid-level, so even though I gimped myself going in I still kicked everything's ass with the exception of White Legs.
Choices - .... Wow... After Dead Money and NV this DLC was disappointing as [censored] regarding choices, maybe I'm blind and missed something but there's like 3 big choices in the main quest and some veeeery minor choices otherwise, it's all very very linear.
In closure, the DLC was not horrible, it was playable, a nice pointless cut down timesink.
But I don't expect to be replaying it as much as I replayed O:A, Pitt, PL and DM.
I did like the new gear and survival recipes but is it enough for the 800 MSP?
Hah! No...
/opinion
I will replay it some time this week but I doubt I'll change my mind about anything.
Besides, there's a bug when speaking with Grham, I told him I killed Caesar in surgery and after going through that dialogue tree the other options skipped and he just asked me "so are you going to help Daniel?".
I had not gone through the other dialogue so I was like "What? Help him with what?"
Oh and I also think it's a real [censored] move to us pro-Legion.
Why couldn't I reform Graham?
Why couldn't I slaughter Daniel and appoint myself as god to the Sorrows and manipulate them into joining the Legion?
Why couldn't I just simply help the White Legs?
I felt really awkward during the entire DLC to help these people "avoid" and even "kill" those who are planning to join the Legion.
