How to begin creating a new worldspace...

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:07 am

Quite odd, everything was working ok up to yesterday. Today I try to play some of the files in WLMM and after a few seconds the screen freezes, other than green horizontal lines, audio keeps playing, but everything is unresponsive even ctrl alt delete does nothing. Bizarre

I don't know about that sort of things since I've never done it myself, wish I could help you. I think most of what were talking about is still relatively on topic since this is about a video tutorial about creating worldspaces so I don't think we have to worry there. That was just a passing thought.

Note: I know it seems like I'm sitting around here all day waiting for you to respond but thats not completely the case. Don't worry, I actually have the week off from school this week, and I have to all the chapters in this textbook by the end of my first trimester in my class, so I'm reading my book, doing a review soon hopefully, doing study guides, while also checking facebook to break repetition now and then, listing to music on youtube and watching videos, etc. Right now I'm listening to a playlist of Jia Peng Fang while I highlight sections in this chapter. Bottom line, don't feel TOO rushed to respond ASAP. I'm just doing this at this moment to stop me from getting sick of doing school work all week.

I hold down a full time career, have two children, a wife and I'm doing a degree part time in Archaeology and Classics (have my graduate diploma in classics) so modding is a real joy.

Tutorial is coming along better now. Using a different approach.

I'm super excited to do my mod because I've always wanted to create my own worlds but I've either never had the initiative to learn organisation methods to truly be able to write stories, or otherwise just not known how to get these ideas out of my head. (I got carried away and started talking about the storyline I have planned for my mod and its pretty long, not too long but its a good paragraph. Don't wanna take too much space up so I spoiler'ed it. Glad I did though, my ideas are a bit more organised now.)

OffTopic: Also while I'm listening to this music in youtube, if you like feeling relaxed and chilling out while you might be working on something at home like I do on my school work, listening to music by Jia Peng Fang is SUPER relaxing and doesn't have the side-effect of making you sleepy over time like New Age music tends to do. I.e. Ludovico Einaudi.

Spoiler
This one I'm super excited about because I thought to myself that noone has ever really tried to make a mod that gets to put god into it, and from that brief thought one morning, while in the shower, I imagined making some kind of mod that creates this whole medieval world that has a kingdom kinda like the old kings and castle style with catholic influences but with a softer and more lenient faith. I thought I might not have khajiit, but maybe elves and magic has slowly become close to non-existent. Have a massive quest against some kind of king who sold his soul to the dark force that would serve as the equivalent of the devil for the power to shape reality out of his own will, have him being resurrected with his influences just barely beginning to effect the world mostly in caves and dungeons. Then the hero comes across this sort of rip resulting from the corrupted kings actions and he gets pulled into this alternate reality and finds himself stranded there unsure how to get back.

...Woah, I really started tappying away at my keys there, but anyways I thought the storyline is pretty solid now that I put that out there, it wasn't that organised until I just typed it out. Hopefullly nowbody comes and tries to steal my ideas or anything.

You will find after having generated your heightmap , quite usefull the tesannwyn program by Lightwave , you can find it in google or here on the forums .....

After that you will want to use the Oscape for generating LArge terrain lods

also the thread is here somewhere ...

finally you will arrive to the Object lods broken features of the CK , along the many others ... and here is where I have stopped ... waiting someone to fix or Bethesda to stop making selfpromotion around the world on web and actively fix those features...

So things to do:

Find, learn, and use tesannwyn program by Lightwave.
Find, learn, and use Oscape for Large terrain lods.
And wait until the Object lods features are fixed somehow,

is this all why the creation kit stopped working correctly?

Okay sorry, I got distracted, again, *sighs*.....

Anyways, how did you go about uploading your heightmap from wm? All I did was finish doing what I was doing with it, then output it as the .tmp file or whatever it was called in the output device, changed to .raw, then opened creation kit and made a worldspace, and went to world, heightmap editing, it opened a new window with bluescreeen for editing that was empty, so I clicked import after moving the .raw file into data heightfield. From there it stopped working correctly and eventually closed out. I did something wrong somewhere, I know that.

Okay, I uh I don't really know anything about this stuff. The creation kit video tutorials don't really teach you anything new.

I am going to make a concerted effort this evening to get this tutorial done and uploaded.

1. from l3dt into tesannwyn
2. from tessanwyn to tesvsnip
3. from tesvsnip to oscape
4. oscape to game

From blank, flat map, to esm in game with LOD. Even today I have learned a bit more about oscape.

well the best woudl be if you can focus on the object lods, there is already a tut for oscape , for tesannwyn etc ..... the lods instead do not work and nobody seems caring so far ... all seem happy to have rolling hills ion their worldspaces with flat textures ... but no lods?

Well, I managed to get the tesannwyn skyrim compatible version and found Oscape download on skyrim nexus though its a beta, I'm not sure if I should wait until that comes out of beta before I trust using it. Worst case scenario I back up my output from world machine and then use it. All of this is a bit overwhelming for me and all but its fun learning new stuff like this. :D

I cant do this now because I have to finish reading alot of chapters in this book by like April 6'th. 27 in fact and I'm on number 12, so I'll be discussing how to go about doing stuff and what not when I'm taking a break and gathering the tools I need, but most of the work will be waiting until after this first trimester in school. Thanks for all the help guys, I couldn't figure this out on my own.

tessanwyn 0.23 beta is the one I'm using but I cant find the link for it. Post it if you can then I can link it into the tutorial.

Use Oscape_2-4727-2-0beta6 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4727

Prometheus. I dont know how to do the LOD other than hills and mtns etc as I havent got that far yet so the tutorial wont reach that stage. I would definitely call on anyone who does know how to get LOD working to shout up please.

I managed to find the thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1311730-release-tesannwyn-and-tes4qlod-for-skyrim/page__p__19725520

click the giant lime green TESAnnwyn title at the top for a flickr link that will allow you to download skyrim-compatible version.

To look very carefully. Today I compiled the skyrim worldspace by not looking carefully, then I put everthing such as mesogea.water into my data folder and had to bin them and start again.

I learned to create an lod file rather than hack at one with hex edit and so on.

Got to say ethatron, the program is fantastic. Without things like this Skyrim would be not merely pants but Y fronts in brown with beige trim, possibly with stains. Your prog and others have turned it into a pair of lovely french knickers. Once we get trees that render LOD, an exporter for max and blender and a working nifskope it will be a full set of lingerie modelled by the bird of my dreams.

I'm not talking ostrich here.

Anyway, tutorial is uploading. Its not the best, but given the time Ive had after all the errors and muck ups with the microphone and having to roll back the nvidia drivers (culprit of the crash), its the best I could know up quick time like.

If its not good enough I'll do a better one. Its very brief and a video so folk can follow onscreen

Had three or four hours of that today. Anaxamander, Socrates, Protagoras and the sophists. They sound like a real hoot at parties.

Well, its ok for a starter. I will do something a bit better over the next few days, unless this is enough to show the basics. Feeling well and truly under the weather with sore throat and the like, so no more speaking parts for me for a bit. Luckily did the vids a few days ago, just getting them to produce in Windows live movie maker took hours.

Well I decided I might use the TESAnnwyn program this afternoon but I realised, I'm not exactly sure if the files are independant of the game directory or if they have to be placed in the root directory of the game folder for skyrim. Does anyone know?

Put them anywhere. Mine are in the skyrim directory outside data. They work independently.
