How to begin creating a new worldspace...

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:01 am

Hm, it seems this thing is command-line interface...Is there a list of commands to use with this thing or a readme to tell me the proper way to convert my .raw file through the usage of this?

Edit: Nevermind, for some reason when I was opening up the readme before, it wasn't scrolling down past a point and I asssumed that was all there was, perhaps it was still loading.

This is really complicated, I can't figure out from this readme, what the command would be to import a 16-bit .raw landscape from worldmachine into skyrim as an ESP, resolution being 1024x1024.

Sorry I'm a noob. All of these things are new to me, and I don't truly understand the workings of these funtions such as programs like say, GIMP and TESAnnwyn. Well I KNOW Gimp textures .nif files that you open into it much the same way that you edit pictues with paint and Photoshop, but if you asked me to explain how these programs work on the inside or how to use them like a vocal tut, I couldn't do it really because I've never used Gimp admittedly. Using new programs like this and not knowing what I'm doing in the long run is fun, but a little overwhelming.

I can't import any heightmap at all. As soon as I press import the creation kit crashes. I'm not even given the option to select what map to import. It just crashes.

Dont bother doing it through the CK, you're banging your head against a brick wall. Stop it, there's a good fellow, you'll hurt yourself. Check the tutorial above. Any problems, come back here and we'll go through it step by step. I am going to do a better tutorial today.

Well karithian, your tutorial helped me through the tesannwyn part. Next up is TesVsnip when I get around to it using your tutorial. I loved how world machine provided a bottom left corner location, and a upper right corner location, but not one in the center. I had to take the height or wide value specificed, they were both the same, divide it by half, then subtract from the x and y coordinates of one of the locations to get the location in the center. -_-

One flaw with the tutorial is that tesvsnip takes more than selecting save as esm to actually save as an esm. I have used tes4gecko to change esp to esm, but as soon as I figure out how tesvsnip does it properly then you will have the esm show up as a plugin. I will update the tutorial accordingly when sorted.

I thought after watching your video that I could just convert the raw file to a esp and then open and modify it in creation kit without tesvsnip, but when I did it only had a blank flat landscape with nothing of what I had created in world machine so I will have to convert it to a esm perhaps hence my previous post.

I thought I read somewhere that after the 1.5 patch that the heightmap issue appears to have been fixed. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't know, I don't think I tried importing anything through heightmap editor since a few days before 1.5.

I might not be doing my mod anytime soon. I think I need to take the time I spend on videogames and put more towards my faith in Christ and everything. I've been putting Jesus and God in a corner in the back of my mind and I need to take time for them over everything else. So I need to build a relationship with them first thing and come to this later.

As your Brother in Christ, I greatly respect that perspective. Be blessed. Perhaps you may receive inspiration for some good stories you could tell through a mod series or something somewhere down the road. Or maybe even now. Building a world is a major undertaking requiring a significant amount of time. Perhaps it is not necessary to leave behind modding all together. Check your PMs.
