How is Dead Money?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:28 am

So, Before I spend 10 dollars on this Add-On, I would like to know if it is fun (Or at least has a decent story.), and lasts longer than 1 hour.

Also, are the companions permanant?

The story is not only decent but excellent all over. The charachters are mature written (Best Treatment of a mute charachter in any game ever) and the atmosphere sinks you in. Spend time talking to the charachters. It's beautiful.

Well, Could you PM me if they are perma-panions?

Also, how hard is it too kill Ghost People?

I'm about a third of the way through it, and I played it for about two hours. I'm actually impressed at the length of the DLC.

Spoiler
They can take several hits, even on Very Easy. They also come back to life unless you hack them apart. It's pretty entertaining once you get the hang of it.

Here are some of my posts regarding it:

Completed it 2 minutes ago, it was....
Complicated.
I have mixed feelings for it.
The atmosphere, the temporary companions, the quest structure, the design of the buildings, loved it.
But... Being an Energy Weapons character was hard as hell, to the point of me running past enemies cause I didn't get enough amno.
Then there was the ridiculous parts at the end where I ran around for an hour trying to figure out what to do.
And then there was the crap thing about not being able to go back to the area after completion.

So uhm, the first 70% of it is awesome.
But the final 30% was filled with frustration and annoyance.

- "Hey, Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta had the right idea about not letting players back!"
- "Yeah totally!!!"
- "So let's do it with Dead Money as well. =D"
- "OH YEAH!!!"

....

[censored]!?!i?=r3IJKaeml?sfgasdl?M AF
.
...
.....
Why... The... Hell.. Is... Sierra... Madre... Blocked... Off... After... Completion? ("Oh the courier don't know his way back", screw that! Worst [censored] design decision of O:A and Mothership Zeta was to not let players go back into the DLC's area.(aside from being pure FPS'))

Like I said in an earlier thread about Vaults.
It's better to have a smaller vault with the right amount of content than trying to stretch one out into a messy maze.
Dead Money is in the latter category.
Lots of nooks and crannies to explore but overall there is little to no reason.
Maybe for a single unique or two but hardly worth it most of the times.

I think this sums it up for me.

i wasn't sure what to expect, but after spending about an hour & 1/2 on it, so far it's AWESOME. the characters/story far exceeded anything i expected, even though they've been very good in NV itself IMO, in Dead Money they clearly put in some serious effort with writing, voice acting, etc.

most of the characters/story in the FO3 DLC were never really impressive, but i don't think they were intended to be anyway, i think they just tried to make a fun overall expirience.

for Dead Money, it's very story & character driven, but the icing on the cake for me is the atmosphere. with the situation your put in & the atmosphere, enemies, etc. you're surrounded with, the only way i can describe it w/ out spoilers is "Saw" meets Bioshock. i am blown away so far, and a big reason for that,at least for me, is it feels polished. yes i said it. i haven't had as much as a graphical hiccup so far (knock on wood). i'm about to jump back in in a minute so i'll have more on it later, but so far i am really impressed. bravo

again, this is just my 2 cents

I feel the same as the other guys posting but the only bad thing is that on my game at the moment dog has glitched and won't move. Also when i tell him to wait by the electric box things he follow me...

Other than that it's very good.

Its a mix of Bio shock, Fallout and Dead space all in 1 DLC.

I say Dead Space because pretty much everything won't die unless you blow off their limbs, i don't think the previous is considered a spoiler seeing as how the slides tell you to take their limbs off.

Yeah, I thought it was similar to Dead Spac because of the dismembering.

I guess you pay $60 normally for those games I guess $10 is not bad but a little game call BC2 Vietnam hit today so sorry Beth but my point went towards that :flamethrower:

I'd rate the DLC at a solid 7 out of 10, with the only negatives really just being the difficulty.

The story was well written, keeps you clung to it, the characters were interesting and many of the things you did made you think.

But it was the difficulty that made the DLC frustrating, with the weapons given to you in the DLC it felt that melee was the only reliable method of attack. The firearm used throughout most of the DLC was severely underpowered in comparison to the enemies. The energy weapon given could have been more effective if in better condition with a high energy weapon skill, but it has a delayed effect which could cause problems in many cases. It gets a bit overwhelming when fighting enemies, trying to avoid toxic fumes and dashing away from radio interference, the rarity of ammo and stimpacks just compiled onto that. But I didn't do alot of exploring, cos I wasn't confident in the weapons given to me by the DLC.

The method to kill enemies via dismemberment was a nice change of pace, it was pretty cool to down them with the Police Pistol and then rush with the beartrap fist for the dismembering blow.

The final bit of the DLC felt as if I were flying by the seat of my pants, often reloading a save because I screwed something up. But finishing the DLC made me sigh of relief, but the reward was worth the effort.

It's hard on hard core mode, and given how many people complain about things being too easy people should appreciate the difficulty.

Half the the ghost critters die before they run out of HP when I shoot them. Once a limb is fully damaged they die.

I have to agree and then disagree. Yes, very good dialogue with god/dog and the other companions. Very tough on hardcoe, limited water and food. The Ghost people are bullet sponges along the lines of feral ghoul reavers, except they don't die - a combat grind in general. I like the intro part - picking up the party companions and then it gets TOUGH. I am at 100 on guns and can't dent a ghost (level 30), VATS accuracy is non-existent. Basically, you have to be a high melee weapons character to get through in a reasonable way. It's tough, like Point Lookout (or MZ at later levels). I guess one could imagine Point Lookout filled with reavers and radiation drums (the cloud) everywhere - except there is no rad-away for the cloud. I have spent 6 hours and only collected the team - good in length (but I explore everything). Died many times trying to complete Christine's segment, a couple of times with dog. I will get through it, but likely wont' include it on my next few play through -or I might start beefing up my next character on melee, just for this DLC.

One glitch I noticed is the appearance or disappearance of Ghost people in doorways/entrances. I was taking on a couple with Christine and on one side of the entrance was a ghost. Back up two steps and no ghost. Move forward and then a ghost, back no ghost ...repeat. Since I am relatively early on in the DLC I image other bugs will show - this is to be expected from Bethesda at this point (I know Bethesda didn't make it; someone else did - but anything released under FO:NV is a glitch fest - so far).

PS - I have taken back my reserve for Brink - another Bethesda glitch fest in the making.

Well Bethesda didn't make this game and they are not making Brink either. Obsidian made this and Splash Damage is making Brink. Give Bethesda a little credit. Are you not going to buy Skyrim either? Blame the engine if anything, Fallout New Vegas will be the last game ever made with it probably.(hopefully)

I have maxed out unarmed. I beat the snot out of 'em and keep hitting them on the ground. Bear trap fist is pretty good at dismembering.

I'll give that a try today. If I can find a manageable way around the Ghosts, then playing with god might be interesting. How many hits to drop one?

I shoot 'em in the head with the AR. Two bullets and down they go. Then out comes the Cosmic Knife and off come the limbs.

Ghost People are pansies once you know what to do.

Well i Rate This Dlc 8/10

Reason why not 10/10 Is because i cant Return, The casino is still 'Dull' Afterwards And that there isnt much to go explore
Apart from that i love that i can make New chems and alchoal and a new weapon or Two (without any Certain requirment's)
