How far do you take RPing?

In the middle of nowhere and a storm comes, carry on or seek shelter in a nearby cave? Eating regularly.. Praying.. Ect.

Personally, I only roleplay in as much as I try to get in the mind my my character and make the choices they'd make. For me, a game has to have built in effects/consequences for me to do certain things such as eat, sleep, stay warm. Much as I love the game, I think it was very foolish of them to give such a negligible reward to sleeping and eating (unless it's prepared food, which is quite effective). So no, I might think about how miserable it is travelling in the bad weather but I won't actually seek shelter.

If it fits in with my characters personality and habits, I'll do it.

A hardcoe mode like fallout would be cool, just adding to the realism.

I'd love that. I reckon it could still happen too - maybe as part of a DLC or something? They could even stick it in a patch.

Hopefully, it would be a cool feature :)

My character is raised in the wilds, she does not care about a storm. ;)

I roleplay some but I'm not strict about it. I try to use my imagination about being in the story and it enhances the fun. If there's a storm, she keeps right on going though...she fights dragons, after all. She's so busy, she forgets to eat and sleep but then she'll catch up on some down-time from saving the world...have a meal and a bath, that kind of thing. :tes:

That's why I tend to avoid it. Such a shame. I still travel everywhere on foot.

I think it's a shame that basic RP habits aren't required to play this game. I remember way back, when I first played Dungeon Master, how your players *had* to eat and drink to survive...how your stamina would drain more quickly if you were carrying too much weight, (rather than the, "I can sprint for a minute or so carrying this much weight, but oops, add another half a kilogram and now I can only walk slowly", thing.

As such, I rarely RP in Skyrim. If I eat or drink it's just for the sake of it and it seems pointless. Plus I never sleep anymore...I just wait if I need to.

I agree with this as well.
The whole concept of eating, drinking and sleeping is from a logical point completely pointless. It's there as padding rather then to serve a purpose.
The way encumbrance is handled is also entirely illogical, but it has been so for ever within the TES series.
Considering how simple it would be to give it purpose and the fact that it HAS been done prior using the exact existing mechanics, it strikes me as nothing more then laziness on a developmental level.

I RP hard on some characters and not on others.
One character, an orc who likes to smash faces with his massive hammer, is a complete ass hole who likes to drink profusely. Some times he goes into the tavern, gets real drunk, then kills every single person he sees... except [censored] essential NPCs, damn that pisses me off sometimes.

I RP to a certain degree. My character doesn't really eat, although I did eat all the food at the Thalmor embassy party on purpose. Sometimes I sleep in Inns, but if there is nothing close, I'll use the wait feature and pretend I set up base camp for the night. I don't fast travel, and I seek out adventures based on my travels, or what I think my character would get into.

This would improve the immersion no end

In a sense, there is a small element of cause and effect, but if you spend enough time "anonymous" or outside of the hold, then it resets.

Who else has given their characters fears as a result of something that has happened in game or part of their backstory?

My second character suffers fom gigantasophobia because he was chased from Dawnstar to Whiterun by a giant

Agree on the Fallout HC mode addition.

Sleeping needs, Food needs, Potions healing over time, etc would be a great addition.

I use a mod that forces me to be careful of the weather. Have to find shelter when it's raining, find or build a campfire when I get cold, avoid the frigid water, etc. It's lots of fun and adds to the experience. It really helps to draw me into the world.

I don't, however, use any mods that require me to eat, drink or sleep. Those are just inane upkeep things. I don't find them particularly enjoyable. I just used F:NV's hardcoe mode for it's effects on healing.

So yeah, that's how I am with RPing those things, but I also create a character and usually stick to what that character would do. I don't take quests that would go against their morals and what not.

Use Clear Skies shout.
Anyways, I only do realism on characters that I build for realism.

I take it as far as I need to in order to enjoy the game. I often fast travel, but I also eat, drink and sleep regularly, wear clothes in cities/towns, occasionally bathe and maintain friendships with people my character has met and likes.

I likely wouldn't use a 'hardcoe' mode though. I do so because I enjoy doing it, and feel it adds to immersion. If something is forced upon me, I likely won't enjoy it as much.
