So how many gaming hours ......

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:06 pm

Running through to get to all the new stuff, ignoring the stories, sidequests, etc., 10-15 hours of play PER SIDE, that's 20-30 hours of RUSHED playthroughs. Take your time, keep playing, get all the goodies that pop up after you've "finished", minimum of 20 hours per side, probably closer to 30 or 40. Plus whatever NEW characters you build specifically to take advantage of the added content, and any subsequent characters. But, if you're playing just one character and plan on taking in the story, scenery, all of the new stuff, probably about 30 hours. Noth bad for $20 if you ask me.

On state of "bugs"... the only people I've heard complaing are those that use mods. If you're playing on a vanilla Skyrim install, PC is pretty solid. I haven't gotten anything more than VL not transforming to already levitating, which just requires you to toggle crouch and all's better. There is an issue with NPC "followers" fighting one another, but no biggie.

The only play through I have done so far was probably around 20 hr's, I play pretty slowly. While my character didn't FT as such he did ride the carrige form Riften to Solitude and back again...alot. That was mostly bcause I didn't want it to take a month to get through the MQ of DG... I get distracted easily when walking along. Now Derik didn't do any of the side quest's...well on purpose anyway. He did get four Item's that belong to a side quest. I did deduct time that wasn't spent on the MQ, such as Derik going home and doing smithing and such.

I play on 360 so IDK about pc bugs

I got about 25 hours out of it. Entertainment at <$1 an hour. I reckon it's worth it.

Somewhere around 40ish hours. I did almost all of the side quest (forgot about Florentius), and I didn't fast travel and I took my time with things. Although I am still doing some small things, like collecting things like:

Spoiler
Reaper fragments, Paragons, Falmer books

I guess you could say my Dawnguard experience isn't quite over yet.

I will admit that when clearing an area I tend to be slow and methodical but I did the Dawnguard side quests along with the main quest and explored like crazy. Did you find all the new spells in the Soul carin ? What about the Keeper did you kill him ? There's a ton of new stuff in the DLC you just need to explore which is what ate up most of my time.

40 hours easily. I've put in at least 60+ hours (mostly messing around as a werewolf), kill a few fangers here....save the people of the holds there....munch on a dragon or two....DG on Master difficulty is very nice.

12 or less,it isn't worth the price.
I disagree. I already have a solid 40 hours in and it has been totally worth while! After progressing a ways there are some really awesome looking new areas to explore. All of the new content is really well made. New allies, factions, new enemies, new areas, new abilities... yeah, totally worth the price IMHO.

Some of the new areas are extremely fun to traverse whilst engaging in combat. No spoilers, you'll see for yourself if you get it!

Lol 603 hours too much?? You got to multiply that by 2 to even get close to the hours I've sunk into this game, 603 x 2 = 1200+ hours since release. :bunny:

Currently I've squeezed roughly 60-70 hours out of Dawnguard content.

All up, I'm approaching 1200 hours with skyrim. Mostly on one character.

I just spent a good 6 to 8 hours carting a bunch of gear from breezehome to a new mod house and organising it to suit having my 'collection' of weapons and armour on display and 'just right', as well as being a suitable 'house' for serana (can't have the squeeze living in the same house as the wife, just doesn't seem right somehow).

I've kept a number of sidequests and radiant quests active from DG, simply so that it gives me variation later on. As a gamer and rp'er, I don't see the need to blitz through a game or dlc straight up and prefer to get value for my money and gaming time.

I'll also say that with that amount of time, I am still finding new things...and this matches my experience in Fallout 3 where I sunk 1600 hours onto one character, and was still finding new stuff. You simply don't find everything unless you invest the time, and it's generally hard core rp'ers who will do that.

I don't even understand how people can rush through a game like this. 12 hours? Seriously? That means that you clicked through all dialogue, fast-traveled whenever possible, didn't explore the new areas, didn't talk to the new NPCs, didn't do any side-quests.

Of course the DLC isn't going to be worth it if you don't actually play it.

So far, I've only played Dawnguard the Vampire side and I'm getting about 30 hours of content so far. Main quest, I only got 15 hours maybe? Maybe because I dashed through the Forgotten Vale part. I went back and appreciated the beauty but I hated that quest for some reason. Maybe I'm just sick of Falmer.

Of course, I've only finished ONE side quest for that Dark Elf Vampire in the castle so I have a lot of ways to go. Most of my 30 hours was Vampire Lord fun. I don't get how people finish all of Dawnguard, including side quests, in less than 15 hours. It just doesn't seem viable.

One castle is at one corner of the map and fort dawnguard is at the other corner. If you travel on foot every time you can squeeze about 20 hours. Side quests are radiant, so they sent you to kill that vampire in this castle you already cleared when you did the companions quests, silver hand bandits included and other side quests send you to look for something in the big chest at the end of previously visited vanilla fort. All this is already in the vanilla game. Main quest will take you as long as it took you to finish any other guild questlines. So yeah, very very overpriced. Wait for steam to lower the price.

There are full games that provide 20-25 hours of gameplay, period. Somehow, I think your definition of overpriced has been warped by an unjustified sense of entitlement.

So its $20 or £13.50. I don't know what 20 bucks will buy but for 13 and a half Quid you'll get a curry and a couple of pints! So how can something which gives you at least 20 hours of gameplay be overpriced  !!?

Each new playthrough I've done so far has lasted about 100-200 hours, and I usually only join one or two factions with each characer.

Dawnguard adds enough gameplay features that it would seem to provide incentive to try a couple of new playthroughs, one siding with the Volkihar, another siding with the vampire hunters and perhaps a third playing as a werewolf to try the new perk tree. Plan to try Dawnguard this weekend, with a number of new quest mods installed as well - hopefully they are compatible.

Come on man, think with your logical and objective head, not with your obsessed fan-will pay anything for anything Bethesda puts out skyrim related-head.

Imagine the companions questline being added as a DLC. Would you have paid 13.50 for it? 1/3 the price of the entire game. It has all the things Dawnguard has, a short storyline and radiant quests that send you to X fort to look for a stolen item found in the big chest. And the main feature a werewolf (like the vampire lord) that doesn't scale, so its useless by the time you get to lvl 20. All beths DLCs were priced at $10 (cept SI, but that is one DLC deserving of that price) You make it sound like we should pay $60 for every DLC they put out, just 'cause other games give you less playtime. Not to mention the biggest and most important factor Beth never fails to deliver every time... 142,709,477 bugs and performance issues. You would think that if they are going to double the price tag on additional content, they would take extra care finishing it. I love this series. But loving these series doesn't mean I like being taken advantage of or that i'm willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for it :)

Utterly ridiculous.

It's a 30 hour DLC, and that only if you play a single faction. 50% more if you play both.

EASILY worth the money. Those of you who disagree are spoiled (no offense, but it's true, and you know it - think of how there used to be entire RPG GAMES that were 40 hours long and folks RAVED about how lengthy and involved they were.)

People who keep saying it's X amount of hours for only one side really need to play both sides of the DLC. They will then understand why this statement is poor.

Logic = It was bad in the past so anything bad now is justified.

Dawnguard costs almost half as much as what Skyrim itself cost.
