How often do you finish games?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 5:46 pm

Truthfully for me it depends upon several factors concerning the game. Some games I can't finish because I just lose interest in them, but that rarely happens due to how much research I do behind the game.

If we talk about the extreme end of things 100% then that doesn't happen with RPG games like FO3. Think the closest i've gotten to finishing an RPG was 99% like Star Ocean: The Second Story going into the caves reaching the 2nd to last level of the secret boss area. Only RPG i've made it to full completion is Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars for the SNES. At its time that was a great game, but now it is child's play compared to other games out there.

I rarely finish games because I change what I play so frequently.

I'm pretty good about finishing my games. I still buy more than I play and have a huge backlog, but I usually play one game from start to finish before starting something else.

Usually if I make it at least 50% through a game I finish it. By that point I feel invested and want to see it through. If it just bores me I quit early.

Occassionally I try to put up with a mediocre game so I can see how it ends but do give up 3/4th through because it just gets too frustrating and stupid (Chrome). And some games are just hard to finish because they have no real ending like TES,FO, Mount&Blade.

It usually does need to have some sort of story and progression to keep me interested until the end. I don't feel like I need to 100% finish every puzzle game I play.

What happens more often is that there is a nice indie bundle or some sort of good sale, and I end up buying games that I don't actually play for ages, if ever.

Same here, buy games I end up not playing much. I've only finshed a few from what I can remember. Titles like Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk , Halo, The Elder Scrolls, Zelda, & Pokemon.... lol! lawl ;-)

I've got a bunch of unfinished games, but I don't really mind since there'll be something new left to see if I go back to it later. I think I probably completed less games back when it was common to have no saves and be like "Game Over! Back to level 1!"

Like a movie, i'll usually sit down for long periods of time and play the game until its finished. With that being said, i've found it increasingly difficult to play any games this year.

I played RAGE in March and I just played Mass Effect 3.

Theres some games I haven't played (assassin's creed revelationas, gears of war 3, batman Arkham city, Modern Warfare 3) that I really wanted to but I think i just have to accept the fact that the game industry is spitting out games faster then I can play them. :(

I finish, at most, about third of the games I play. I have a fair number of games on my steam list I haven't even played at all, much less finished. I am very quick to give up on a game that really fails to engage me, because there is certainly something better I could be doing with my time.

I have trouble keeping track sometimes, so I use this.

As of now(There are games I haven't added in yet) I have 86.7% of my collection beaten or completed.

I finish games probably 90% of the time. If I buy a game, it has to be pretty bad for me not to at least play through the story mode.

I rarely 100% games however; I'll usually just play through once on normal difficulty, doing a few off-the-beaten-path things, exploring a bit, etc., and then never touch the game again.

I do have a fair few games on my Steam list that I've only maybe played for about an hour or so, but they are mainly the ones I picked up for ~2 euro each during sales, and I never had any intentions of actually playing them for any significant length of time; I just wanted to have them.

This. I pick my games carefully and will always end up buying games that I like.
I agree, I do the same thing. I always check out games on YouTube/gaming sites (be it LP's or reviews) just to get a feel of it, so I know what to expect from it. I rarely never buy games I know nothing about. Therefore I always know what I'm getting and I'm always satisfied.

About 95% of my games, the other 5% being games that I did not enjoy enough to finish.

Almost never. I play them and have fun with them but rarely finish.

For a good example, I only just finished Legend of Dragoon two months ago. That game came out in 1997 for the PS1. Yes I've been playing it since, and yes I really only just finished it two months ago.

1998-2006 - good track record of finishing (main campaign/plot) most games, where either I was lucky or it was easier for me to tell if I'd like a game or not, back then....but there were also several I never finished, or barely even started. Some of them big ones, like StarCraft1 (found it boring). But probably a 70% finish to 30% unfinished ratio.

2007-present - terrible track record of finishing games, even if I've researched the game beforehand. Closer to 60% unfinished I'd guess. I don't buy more per year, generally speaking (less on average, even), but for some reason I don't finish more and more of them. I start a game, think "this is kinda cool/cute/ok" then quit that first play session and never end up returning to it. It's actually been pretty frustrating. I don't know if it's me, the games, or a combo of both. Probably the latter.

I've never bought a game I did not enjoy enough to finish.
OH wait... I forgot about Final Fantasy 12...
Despite that, I'm incredibly proud of my list of completed games. I play on Xbox, and it's very nice to have a set of goals and a way to say I'm "done". I've got 100% completions on Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fable 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Castlevania: SOTN, LIMBO and Mass Effect 1 & 2. I will be adding Dark Souls to that list tonight.
